A little older than that (around 10 or so) not completely sure, and what I think is probably incorrect. i'll ask my mother later, she went to school and learned about kids.

There's only a few certain circumstances where suicide could be even remotely considered a 'brave' thing to do.
Most cases aren't.
I don't think it's brave or cowardly. When someone does it they've given up all hope for everything. I knew someone before they killed them self. They wouldn't talk for a year because they were just so depressed, and when I did once did hear them say something, they just said they felt broken. So it's not brave, nor is it cowardly, it's just them feeling like shit.
