My boy Villenueve.
Speaking of which, the dude who directed Cowboy Bebop made a 15 minute blade runner short, set three years after the original film. It's pretty good, looks and sounds amazing.

91 Days meets every criteria you listed. There's a good amount of violence but not really over the top, no dumb anime tropes or supernatural shit, and the story is above the low bar set by almost everything else ever to come out of Japan.
What is it about? Is it on Netflix?
In Prohibition-era America, the mafia kills the family of a wealthy kid, who runs away into the woods. Years later, he infiltrates them in order to hunt down the people responsible, but becomes divided between his original goal and the new life he has as a gangster. It might be, I don't generally use Netflix.

ay i can't wait to feel that in a few weeks when i start
Won't feel like that for the first few weeks. For a while you'll feel like you can hang out and party all day and only vaguely give a shit about classes, but that phase doesn't last long. A lot of freshman drop out by the second semester because they thought school was an afterthought and never get out of that mindset. But on the other hand, here's something that took me a while to realize: you don't need to go to class. Most of your professors won't really care if you're there or not, unless you have less than twenty people. If you wake up feeling terrible and know you're in no shape to do anything, or have to finish something for a different class or read something you brushed off the night before, then just don't go. Don't skip every other day, but don't think you absolutely have to attend every class to pass.

Eh, I can see the pros and cons of animosity.
More cons than pros I hope.

They're generic items, except a few you find in a certain area are for a sidequest.

Tiger & Bunny from what I recall are basically superheroes that are sponsored by companies
so they have capeshit in japan too
You can thank Spider-Man for that. Japan just can't get enough of bug-themed superheroes.

I'd go with sympathetic motives and ideals as well. Villains that have legitimate reasons for their atrocities are infinitely more interesting than villains who do evil things because they're evil. Or in other words, take a look at Carnage or the Joker, and then do the exact opposite.
One trick I've picked up is to spend a few chapters from the villain's perspective, write them as a second protagonist, and try to get the reader to understand their thought process. Write them from a neutral standpoint, not judging or demonizing, and present their actions as arguably reasonable in context, but still at odds with the protagonist. This helps make the character whose actions will drive the story more than just a talking obstacle the hero has to overcome.

I would have changed my username a while ago but then Sol wrote the one true God is Doctor Doom and we should all be worshiping him.
and it amused me enough to keep it.

what an embarrassment of a thread
But anyway, Das, Psy, Kitsune and Yang seem like they'd be cool to hang with. They're the good ones.
