Tbh I really liked Halo 2's ending.
I haven't played through the game, but I know that it's a cliffhanger.
That can't be the only reason people didn't like it, though... right?
It isn't just a cliffhanger, it's a hilariously awkward and abrupt cliffhanger. Like if you're at a concert, it's your favorite band, you're enjoying yourself, and then they just stop playing halfway through a song and leave. Now you might be thinking, "yeah, but that's what cliffhangers are for: postponing the ending in order to build excitement." Except it's less "something exciting is going to happen, but you'll have to wait to see what it is!" and more "something exciting is happening, OH WAIT NO IT'S NOT". The video game equivalent of blue balls. Also most of the missions are dull, drawn out, and repetitive.

Some of the episodes in Justice League Unlimited felt out of place
I feel you. I loved some of the expanded cast, but a few of the episodes without the main JL were just... boring.
There was an entire episode just for Booster Gold. Literally why.
Some of the expanded cast were great though like Green Arrow, Black Canary, Question, and Huntress. I enjoyed those episodes as much as the ones with the main cast.
The Question, in particular, got a huge surge in popularity because of that show. A lot of people were upset when they found out the comic version wasn't as quirky and amusing as his cartoon counterpart though.

That didn't change until New 52
Until Infinite Crisis, actually. A lot of people were pissed about it, too.
I picked up an issue of infinite crisis but didn't get the rest.
It was a really cool scene where Kid Flash is shoving Superboy-Prime into the Speed Force, and then Barry, Jay Garrick, and Max Mercury show up to help him. Turns out Barry is also the same in every continuity. Pre Crisis, Post Crisis, and New 52? Same guy.
