Completely unrelated to the thread but I had a hilarious encounter today at the mall.
I was going to go buy some more shorts to wear to work when I got stopped by a candy vendor. She was super nervous about doing her job I guess. I had called my sister earlier to ask her where a store was in the mall but she didn't answer so she called me when I was talking to this girl. The girl says really fast to me "Is that your wife? Is it your wife? Does she not like you talking to girls?" I said "No." to all the questions with the most serious and annoyed face I've ever done. Like yo, just give me my gummy bears so I can leave.

In all honesty I don't really care all that much about getting laid anymore. I just want to have a relationship and feel like I'm worth something to somebody for once.

But yeah, just talk to her. I honestly get the same feeling from being in a relationship when I just speak with my coworkers. One of the girls I work with has begun to open up to me about her personal life and there are people who have worked there for years who haven't been able to get two words from her.
Relationships don't need to be complicated and they don't need to be deeply personal to get worth from.
Obviously this could lead to more personal and intimate relationships, but just knowing someone counts on you to make their day a little less shit is a great feeling.
Sometimes I walk past her to get to the area where I'm working. What would be a good thing to say to start a small conversation as I'm walking by?

On top of all of that and to your point about the first 2 points just being good things to develop in the first place, learning to listen is another great tool for general use. Paraphrasing is a good way to do this.
Asking questions is another great way to get anyone talking. An interesting sort of thing is that people love talking about themselves. So asking questions (without sounding like you're interrogating them of course) is a great way to keep up conversation. "How was work today?" "Oh that's good / bad, that must've felt pretty ________. What did you say to them?" stuff like that.
An advantage to this is that if she starts asking questions about you and stuff you're doing it's a decent indicator she might be interested.
Also just in general listening is a pretty good habit to acquire.
This is some good advice and I've been thinking about asking her these same questions. Small talk is all I really have time for whenever I get the chance to talk to her because we're always busy.
Also some other info about her is that she's beautiful, has nice hips, keeps to herself, and is rather shy. She doesn't seem like a social person because I usually see her walk by herself and talk to 1 or 2 other girls that she works with.
The girl that works in my department who used to work in hers told me that she is single too.
