Nah, they really didn't. If the artists and designers really cared about the game, they would have given us multiple Forge World maps instead of just 1 where everything looks exactly the same with that boring and lazy green, blue, and gray color scheme. Forge World's layout was also awkward, especially on the island with Paradiso. There should have been more natural flat areas except for the only one on top of the coliseum.

I find it hard to believe that you sincerely think that because the main multiplayer's execution was kind of mediocre, that nobody working on the game was invested in making their swansong to the series that took the studio from a quirky startup with a dozen employees to one of the biggest names in the industry as good as they could possibly make it.

Kind of mediocre is an understatement when it comes to how fucking garbage the Reach multiplayer is. Reach hands down has one of the WORST multiplayers in Halo along with Halo 4. They made it slower, introduced things to the sandbox that broke the game(armor abilities, sword block etc), removed a lot of weapons, introduced bloom which wasn't needed/wanted, made the vehicles made out of paper, and created the DMR which is the most bullshit and broken weapon to ever be put into Halo.

Reach didn't feel like a swansong at all since Bungie was already working on Destiny at the time. They had to make Reach because they were under contract by Microsoft and had to make it under authority.

Hell, I would probably consider Halo 5 to be one of, if not the, worst games I've ever bought, and incompetent in more or less every single department, but I would still be remiss to say that nobody working on the game cared about what they were doing.

If you think Halo 5 is one of the worst games you've played then you must not play much games at all. The gameplay and multiplayer in Halo 5 is light years ahead of Reach's and Halo 4's. It's not a game I would prefer over Halo 2 or Halo 3 but I'd take it over Reach and 4 any day.

Seriously, you're letting your dislike of the multiplayer (which is totally justified, mind) cloud the fact that the game was still clearly a labour of love put in from nearly every other department except maybe the writing team. Hell, I'd say that for just about any game outside of sub-contracted shovelware movie tie ins or studios that are working their employees to the bone with crunch hours to release for Q4, it's disingenuous to suggest that the team flat out doesn't give a shit about what they're doing.

Reach as a whole is a colossal dumpster fire from the campaign to multiplayer. We were promised bigger battles yet all those battles are off in the distance, being a part of the skybox that we can't partake in. We were promised a satisfying campaign from beginning to end with likable characters but we got a complete borefest with some of the worst voice acting that makes games like Rambo seem award-winning candidates. We were promised hardcore competitive multiplayer but we ended up getting one of the worst multiplayers in the series that drove hundreds of thousands of players away to other games or back to the previous game.

Reach was the beginning and downfall of the series and you can defend it all you want but the game is literal trash.

idk rewatching the forge world vidoc it really seems like the y (well, at least the guys on that side of things) really did care about making the best game they could, even if the end result is debatable.
