If you look even deeper (but still not that deep), Tyler was pretty much asking for the rule to be broken anyway. The idea is that he wanted to build an army, essentially. He knows how humans work--you tell them to do something, they don't fucking listen. They do the opposite. Tell them not to talk about Fight Club--they do it anyway. Now we have this information spread, and a whole bunch of these new losers signing up every day. "I see a lot of new faces tonight. That means a lot of you have been breaking the first two rules." Notice how there's no real punishment for that. It's pretty much what he wanted all along. As for why he thought this reverse psychological method of doing this was more efficient, that's up for interpretation. In my opinion, it was Tyler's way of giving them "free will", or at least, his way of tricking them into thinking they had any. It's an army created not by force, or by indoctrination, but by the viral concept taking a life of its own.
Not to mention, it teaches the average castrated, consumerist white male how to break rules.
The secrecy only helps to the extent that he only needs an army big enough to carry out his iconoclastic tasks, and without the secrecy, it would cause a lot of commotion in the real world, which would be ultimately detrimental to Tyler's ideals.
So no, Tyler doesn't actually give a shit--it's all the better that the first two rules are broken. To him, the more space monkeys, the bigger Project Mayhem can potentially become, and the more mayhem he can eventually cause. They're rules designed to be broken. And yeah, like Aria said, if you didn't... know that? I'm afraid you missed the point entirely.
Damn that's quite the insight.

Had a spontaneous 2 month road trip with my bro, and it was amazing as we covered the eastern U.S.
Does that count?
That's exactly what I'm talking about. It feels fucking good doesn't it?

So the other day it was snowing and I was pretty bored so I drove 500 miles just to see the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX. So this was a bit of a small adventure for me, I pretty much did it on impulse and didn't tell anyone that I was going. I got there and I saw it and I have to say it was one of the most rewarding feelings I've experienced in my life. Sure I drove 500 miles to see some cars stuck in the dirt but it's not really the destination but the journey itself that felt rewarding. The invigorating sense of freedom that I've never really felt before. Now I can't stop thinking about where I want to go next, it's like an addiction. So anyone else had this feeling?
