You can't get over trauma. Tell that to soldiers, sailors, pilots, and marines that get PTSD. Combat and rape are both experiences that will psychologically damage a person all their lives
There's some experimental treatments that have worked quite well to cure PTSD in some cases. So I wouldn't say it's impossible to get over trauma.

Oklahoma is oil country. The boom died out a while ago and we're not well known as Texas. But you'll see oil wells in people's back yards and that kind of stuff. Heck the governor's mansion even has it's own personal oil well.
I didn't even know Oklahoma was rich in oil.
My town which now has a population of 5000 had a population of 50000 during the oil boom.
