I can't imagine the stress of actually being a cop.
I've had a few offers to be a cop, and there's a reason I never took it. I can deal with pathetic people, I can even deal with having to take on multiple drunks, but I could never sacrifice my principle and infringe upon people like cops do. You spend your day robbing from mostly productive people.
I am 100% certain that is not most cops.
It is the overwhelming majority of them. How many cops would let someone they found with heroin go?

Yes, how dare they not get compensated for facing the daily threat of having a meth-head pointing a gun at them. We should just make the police and soldiers not have any benefits or a livable wage for what they do because it's just a service right?
They shouldn't be compensated when they're criminals, nor should the compensation be by the threat of force, kidnapping and murder. Charge people that actually need police. Also, they face the majority of their threats because of their own unjust laws they have to enforce. They put that meth-head with a gun in that position. They are WELL beyond a livable wage, and yes, when providing a public service it shouldn't be about the money. The military SHOULD NOT be paid, it should be a volunteer effort. It's exactly why we send so many naive kids to die in illegal wars. When a war is just, good people will be there to fight it.

That's why I don't understand folks. Yes, there are cops who end up as cops for the wrong reasons. They're there for the wrong reasons. And there's corruption.
But it's not present in all of them. And that bad apple effect happens as soon as one bad cop messes up. In a unified force that holds authority and a measure of power over people that effect escalates quickly. But I just don't understand why people are so quick to critisize cops, even the bad ones.
The bad ones may have started out decent. But let's face it. This is a task force of people, tasked with dealing with some of the ugliest shit humanity has to offer on a daily basis.
You can't tell me you're not going to get fucked up people when they've spent years under those conditions. The police in Canada here work a little differently, and they're more restrained in their actions for the most part. But they're a police force just the same, so the threat of waking up in the morning and heading out to face the potential ugliest shit humanity can produce would be nerve wracking.
But one slip up and they're all villains.
Some may be good people, but all have to be corrupt. Police have no more authority or power than normal citizens. You should criticize any wrong action one by anyone regardless of occupation. And they create most of that ugliness with unjust laws they enforce. Of course infringing upon people is going to mess you up, it's why I encourage police to find other sources of income.
