Serious / Brett Kavanaugh« on: October 07, 2018, 02:11:21 PM »
As many of you are probably aware, Brett Kavanaugh is now sworn in.
This isn’t something I’ve followed really at all, and now trying to catch up, it just simply seems that Republicans think he’s innocent while Democrats think he’s guilty. This even goes for people I’d typically consider more nuanced on these types of things. Apparently 55% if Republicans polled thought that he should be voted in even if he’s guilty. It’s getting to the point where I feel I’m doing myself a disservice listening to any and every political pundit. Do you think that Kavanaugh should have been voted in? Do you think there’s enough evidence to be suspicious or even condemn him? 35
The Flood / Guardians of the Galaxy and the quest to reinstate James Gunn« on: July 31, 2018, 02:14:47 PM »
Can’t remember if there had already been a thread about this but about a week ago, someone dug up a bunch of lewd tweets from GotG director James Gunn, including many jokes about pedophilia. This prompted Gunn to go on a spree and delete around 1,000 of his tweets. Shortly after, Disney announced that they were severing ties with him.
The cast of GotG we’re pretty vocal about their disagreement in this decision and just recently released this: What do you guys think about this, and do you think they’ll be able to get him back? Please discuss and thank you. 36

The Flood / Star Wars plans to include unused footage of Carrie Fisher for IX« on: July 28, 2018, 06:59:31 PM »
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2018/07/27/movies/carrie-fisher-star-wars-film.amp.html
Cast list also includes Billy Dee Williams and Mark Hamill (but I never expected him to be absent) and Disney says this will be the final installment in the “Skywalker saga”. Honestly sounds like good news all around. Even though TLJ left me feeling very indifferent towards the rest of the series, I am kind of interested just to see what they end up doing. I really don’t want to see a course correction from JJ. I’m also glad that they don’t have to give Leia an unsatisfying send off where she just doesn’t appear in the next one. I never figured they’d do a recast or uncanny valley face swap. Please discuss and thank you. 38

The Flood / Ranking MCU capeshit« on: May 10, 2018, 01:46:33 AM »
We always do this for Star Wars, but never for Disney's other soulless cashcow. Let's begin:
18. Doctor Strange (2016) This one is easily my least favorite. Because as the 14th entry in the series, it takes all the criticisms about the franchise and doesn't even try to subvert them. Boring, minimalist plot ✓. Forgettable, wasted villain ✓. McGuffin plot device ✓. Female lead that adds nothing to the story ✓. And the humor was the most shoe-horned and unfunny in the entire franchise. 17. Thor: The Dark World (2013) Generally agreed to be a franchise low. This is the first movie I walked out of thinking they didn't even try. 16. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) I think I lost interest and quit paying attention at some point during the third act. 15. Thor (2011) Out of all the movies in the series, this is the one that comes closest to not working for me. Nothing in this movie feels earned, including Thor's character growth and falling in love with Natalie Portman. Also the movie takes itself way too seriously with this grandiose sense and everybody overacting. 14. Iron Man 3 (2013) This movie would probably be terrible without RDJ. I appreciate that Black didn't just want Tony to fight another guy in a robot suit, but the fire people plot and Guy Pearce's character were pretty dumb. I also like how the ending is completely ignored in other movies. 13. Iron Man 2 (2010) A lot of people point to this one when talking about the worst MCU movies, but I think it's fine... I get all the criticisms it gets but I think they make it work better than people give the movie credit for. 12. Thor: Ragnarok (2017) I think more people need to give this one a rewatch. If not for Black Panther, I would say it is easily the most overrated movie in the franchise. The entire Asgard storyline fell flat for me and the Sakaar one wasn't much better. Still was pretty funny and well acted with some interesting new characters. 11. Ant Man (2015) I had a good time with this one. The humor works because they were smart enough to make the stakes low. Paul Rudd was a good choice for this type of character they were going for. 10. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Also pretty overrated. I liked it and was surprised by it, but sometimes I feel like people are watching a different movie than me when talking about this. 9. Black Panther (2018) Decent origin story and I respect that it doesn't go the route of "ebin comedy movie because we don't have faith in the story". Fuck everyone that says it's the best though. 8. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) Same as above. I liked the respect for the character and it works well tonally compared to other phase one movies. 7. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) I guess I liked this more than most people. Ultron was weak and I don't like the way Joss basically writes every character the same way except for Steve. Still thought all the moments with the team together were gold. 6. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) Same as Ant Man. I thought this was the funniest in the franchise and they nailed the character imo. Vulture was also a good villain. Probably better than Loki. 5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) I've been told I have this one too low on my list, but at the end of the day it just feels like another phase two filler movie. Still is pretty much the best filler movie it can be. 4. Captain America: Civil War (2016) I loved this movie when I first saw it but the story is kind of weak and the villain's plan is convoluted and nonsensical. I still feel like the Russo's direction and tone really elevate it and the way they juggle all the characters so well was a surprise. It still feels like they were holding back, and after watching IW, the movie lacks much consequence. 3. Iron Man (2008) Probably the best in terms of structure and tone. This was a time before they had to worry about franchise building and whatnot so we just got a really solid origin story and nothing else. 2. The Avengers (2012) I mainly rank this so high because everyone said it would be impossible, and they made it look easy. Joss's dialogue kind of bothers me and it was the first movie to start messing with the tone but these are mostly nitpicks. 1. Avengers: Infinity War (2018) I knew this was my favorite right after I saw it and still think it is. They said they were going to deliver on 10 years of build up and they really did. It honestly feels like they setup all these characters and movies just to reach this point where they could have a clusterfuck of characters fight Thanos like in the comics. Didn't include Hulk because I don't think I've seen it since 2008. 40
The Flood / Avengers Infinity War HYPE THREAD« on: April 23, 2018, 01:40:12 AM »YouTube I’m just going to say it, this movie looks bad. Everybody seems to be amped over it but the promotional material just makes it look super derivative and bland. Hope I’m wrong though, I’m mostly a big fan of this franchise and the Russo’s movies in particular. 41

The Flood / JUSTice League Review« on: November 16, 2017, 11:57:20 PM »
It was fine.
I'm very much indifferent to what I just saw. The DCucks will claim it's a masterpiece and the critics and normal audiences will probably vary from saying it's mediocre to terrible. With my low expectations, I was somewhat pleasantly surprised but when I try to look at the movie objectively, it falls apart a bit more. It was a much better movie than MoS and BvS and slightly below WW. It was a well-made movie, I'd say with no overt problems like BvS, but there's really just nothing that special about it. Just a serviceable superhero action movie. So I would say it's a positive addition to the franchise but I can also see why critics are rating it so low. The movie is almost play-for-play exactly the same as the Avengers 2012's plot, with even some scenes being almost exactly the same. I don't know if this is Whedon's doing, but it's an issue nontheless. This is why I can't really understand the whole Marvel vs DC debate when it comes to movies, one is clearly just ripping the other one off in a lot of ways and just doing it worse. With that said, there really wasn't a lot of humor shoe-horned in like I was expecting. The tone is pretty consistent with the Wonder Woman movie, and unlike Marvel, at least they knew when to take themselves seriously. I've seen some critics saying that the new characters didn't get enough development, but I honestly might disagree. I think they were explored enough, maybe would have been better if they had their own movies beforehand but I pretty much got their stories/motivations. With so many characters they had to establish, the rest of the plot suffers. It was kind of like BvS where we were like an hour into the movie and not much has happened with the villain and then it all gets wrapped up pretty fast. The villain was complete shit. Probably the worst of any of these movies. If they ever intended for him to be an actual character, it was cut. I can leave some more spoilery thoughts if anyone wants to hear them. 6/10 Since I think I'm the only person on here whose seen it, ama me anything. 54

Really good tbh. Probably the funniest MCU movie but it doesn't feel ham-fisted like in previous entries. Definitely better than Andrew Garfield. Still doesn't compare to Spider Man 2.
