What was your method?
Well, I used multiple layers for the atmosphere, the texture of the planets surface, and the shadow. I found a picture of a rock and used the clone tool to make it 4000 x 4000, I then used the sphere tool to make it like sphere. I applied some effects to it and played around with it and snuggled it in between the other atmosphere and shadow layers.

That's pretty awesome, to be honest. I am impressed.
As a critique, the top right of the planet (where it meets the white glow and black of space) looks odd to me. It seems like it's outlined when it shouldn't be.
Anyway, what did you use to make this? Photoshop? GIMP?
I used photoshop. And yeah, on the atmosphere layer I erased some of the outer atmosphere because it stretched along the planet into the darkside. It's a bit more visible in some places then others but I like how it is now.

Indeed I do know about those. However while those sales certainly are good for saving money it is very easy to go crazy and spend more money then you intended. That's why I'm asking for some tips on frugality.
Well, before you buy a game, think how long you'll actually play and enjoy it for. Even if a game is $5, those $5's start to add up after a while
