We wouldn't have a very interesting game...

Multiplayer would look exactly like this and campaign would be an uninspired retread of shit we've done already with chief being back to an uninteresting brick that occasionally produces dry one-liners.

daily reminder that if you dislike a game, it's because you suck at it--no exceptions

Daily reminder that this is what Verbatim actually belives.

that's the same exact logic you used against me, yes
not really. It's just dumb to say that games are getting worse when they're objectively getting better. You give two video game choices (Super Metroid and KH2) to an 18 year old who, hypothetically, has never seen or played any video games before in his life, and he's going to make the same choice every time. Games are simply becoming more action packed and fun to play.
And chances are if you give that same person a choice between MW3 and Super Metroid they'd chose MW3, does this mean MW3 is a better game than Super Metroid?
MW3 is a better game than Metroid.

« on: July 18, 2015, 03:16:24 AM »
Fools. You underestimate Mass Effect by a huge margin. I'm glad none of you are in positions of power, your arrogance would be your downfall.

I think you forget that it all comes down to who has the most firepower. And Halo has a big fucking sword.

Except it doesn't. Germany had the most firepower and they lost. Retard.
They lost because their tactics were absolute fucking garbage. Good tactics and better firepower always  win. Compare the war tactics used in Halo lore to the giant mob that the earth fleet in mass effect was. They had no strategy and they started firing wildly (In Earth's direction I may add) before the Reapers were even in Range, and look what happens if you don't activate the crucible and deal with the Reapers yourself: they get lolroflstomped an everyone fucking dies.

The pillar of autumn could Keyes loop the entire quarian flotilla with how plebby the mass effect leadership is.

I don't think games from the 80's or 90's are even close to what we have now in terms of quality. Verb your inner hipster is showing

Obviously there's gems that stand the test of time but that goes for any artform (or form of media, if you're like secondclass)

Subjective ( unless we are talking about card games, Yu-Gi-Oh isn't even a game anymore at this point, it's like I declare war but more expensive and one player has all of the royals and aces, and from what I hear MAGIC isn't much better off.)

I still want to watch DBZ

Well you can if you want, but you won't be blinded by childhood nostalgia going into it so you probably won't like it as much as someone who grew up with it.

If you start with the original dragonball just make sure to keep a guide with you so you can skip all the filler and watch DBZ Kai to avoid the endless filler once you get to that part of the story as well.

This is also one of the rare instances that the English dub is better than the sub.

I remember my cousin got into anime last year (about a decade after its heyday, but whatever). I recommended a few that I liked, such as Death Note and Monster, and asked what he was watching currently. Go ahead and guess his answer.

Fuck that shit. He couldn't have picked a worse show to jump on with. It's like starting Halo with the second game. Even worse than Dragonball Z.

Shounen used to be great though.

Stop

Shonen was never "great". That's just your nostalgia talking.

I mean to be fair you are pretty right. Even Dragonball Z which we all love probably has some of the worst pacing in all of history. Fucking Namik

the biggest problem is that we simply don't know. An artificially created intelligence could decide to do any number of things, it could help us, or conversely it could go Verbatim on us and come to a conclusion that life is a bad thing and should be eliminated, an then hack the whole planet and nuke us.

Ok

this is just a thought here

This little story sprung to mind.
Spoiler
Dwan Ev ceremoniously soldered the final connection with gold. The eyes of a dozen television cameras watched him and the subether bore throughout the universe a dozen pictures of what he was doing.
He straightened and nodded to Dwar Reyn, then moved to a position beside the switch that would complete the contact when he threw it. The switch that would connect, all at once, all of the monster computing machines of all the populated planets in the universe -- ninety-six billion planets -- into the supercircuit that would connect them all into one supercalculator, one cybernetics machine that would combine all the knowledge of all the galaxies.
Dwar Reyn spoke briefly to the watching and listening trillions. Then after a moment's silence he said, "Now, Dwar Ev."
Dwar Ev threw the switch. There was a mighty hum, the surge of power from ninety-six billion planets. Lights flashed and quieted along the miles-long panel.
Dwar Ev stepped back and drew a deep breath. "The honor of asking the first question is yours, Dwar Reyn."
"Thank you," said Dwar Reyn. "It shall be a question which no single cybernetics machine has been able to answer."
He turned to face the machine. "Is there a God?"
The mighty voice answered without hesitation, without the clicking of a single relay.
"Yes, now there is a God."
Sudden fear flashed on the face of Dwar Ev. He leaped to grab the switch.
A bolt of lightning from the cloudless sky struck him down and fused the switch shut.

and then he unplugged the power cord instead

You don't know how supercomputers are built do you?

Metroid Other M. You all know I've beaten this game to dead, but I will do it again and again until that this is rectoned out of the space-time continuum

Fucking garbage sexist twilight fanfic story that breaks the timeline of the entire series and ruins probably one of the most iconic female charachters in all of gaming and almost made. me agree with Anita Saekeesian of all people. Literaly every Charachter but Anthony is shit and even he's not all that good, and there's enough plotholes that the game creates within itself to burry the entire series in. There are subplots in the game that go nowhere, like one of the marines being an assassin. That shit just like everything else in the game resolves itself and it has no bearing on the plot whatsoever. And in the end Samus accomplishes nothing and does not even grow as a person. All that realy happens is Adam dies In the most retarded way possible, making his implied death in the Zero mission manga go to waste.

And the gameplay is just as fucked, you button mash your way through the most uninspired linear game of all time that's constantly interrupted by clunky fist person implementation and the most horrible overly long unskippable cutscenes of all time. There is no exploration, no massive puzzles that made the godamn genre to begin with, and button mashing makes the game un losable because the dodge mechanic is so absolutely broken. And that bullshit with the power bombs and the queen Metroid was so absolutely retarded. I would have never known what to do if someone hadn't told me about that bullshit in advanced.

Well an AI at this point would probably require a supercomputer to run, depending on how it develops itself and the way said supercomputer is set up, it may be able to deny access to it's interface, at which point you'd have to manually cut power to it.

The AI might have the possible capability to upload itself onto somewhere on the net or another active computer or something.

It may be able to do those things, it may not.

The whole point is we don't know how sophisticated a program or machine with true intelligence and the ability to learn and manipulate itself could become or how it may behave, and there lies the issue

Then unplug the thing nigga. A computer like that wouldn't be connected to the rest of the world in all likelihood anyway,
A completely isolated computer environment would be fine,
but another concern scientists have is the possibility of the AI hiding it's actual capabilities until it  is provided an opprrtunity to do whatever it intends. or possibly, depending on the intelligence it gains, be able to manipulate people into giving them the opprrtunity.

You ain't seen nuthin yet

The movie that was supposed to end that series had ninjas fighting on the moon and in space without any sort of space suit or oxygen supply.

Try the same thing, but with card games: Cardfight Vangaurd season 4
(They don't even explain how they got there, and don't get me started on the English dub)
