the game is pure atmosphere--if you're not attuned to that sort of thing, i guess i can understand, but the game is supposed to make you feel alone, like a rat in a maze--almost claustrophobic
Sounds like he doesn't like it because it's not the kind of game where you run arround like a headless chicken shooting or slicing up everything in your path.
Metroid of all things isn't an action franchise and sadly most people these days can't appreciate that kind of thing. One reason I like dark souls so much despite its insane difficulty is because is somewhat feels like a Metroidvania style game, in regards to the atmosphere and the more methodical way of venturing through the world by finding what you need without realy being told exactly what to do.
Castlevania is actually well-written and fun, though, two things that Metroid doesn't even come close to having.
