Halo Reach was significantly more of a grind than Halo 5. You get a shit load of REQ points for every match. You get free REQ packs all the time. It's not like you're doing a lot for little in return.

The REQ system is a fairly solid system. Easily the best microtransaction system. It isn't P2W at all, and the money goes towards the tournament prize pool, and is why we get free DLC.

So yeah, if games that do have microtransactions in it had the same system as Halo 5 or something similar, then I'd be okay with it.

Yes but in Reach you grinded for armor. You didn't grind for the slight chance of getting a rocket launcher card to use in the next Warzone match. While if you don't, the guy who just spent $300 has about 15 launchers he'll be able to use.

Yes, it's a fairer system then we've seen other games implement, but it is still a pay to win system, of which does not belong in Halo.

The more and more I play the less and less fair the Req system seems to be.
It's 2016 and I still have no DMR, It feels harder and harder to earn Reqs and, WArzone games go to shit when too many people req a certain card, for example, in Warzone Assault the defenders will call in like 5 Scorpions at the core once and completely shut down the attackers, or in regular war Warzone ghost rushes obliterate your core before you can blink.

Let's not forget how the Janus Key arc very literally dissolved into thin air. You'd think it'd at the very least give some context as to how Halsey found out about Cortana's shenanigans before everyone.

Palmer also changed in personality completely (albeit for the better), and no longer has a raging hate boner for Halsey.

Pretty shite payoff for something that took us all of Halo 4's post game and an entire comic series and then the mother fucking Absolute Record and Requiem being removed from existance to get to.

Hm, how pessimistic has Archive gotten in the wake of H5? I understand that the story for H5 is bad [you had to expect it from the day we saw the lead writer posting on Brian Reed's Twitter], but it's salvageable for sure.

Halo Archive is somewhat pessimistic, I think. I don't know, I've been banned since September.

I don't see how Halo's story could be salvaged unless the evil Cortana, the Warden Eternal and Jul Mdama's death all ended up being a dream.

Naturally. However, Jul and Warden's fates aren't exactly franchise killer. Halo dodged 5's bullet because there was so little of substance actually happening for the series until the end of the game. Hell, Warden could still be developed into something cool given his backstory [not a "true" AI, warped view of the Mantle]. Evil Cortana was written poorly in Halo 5, but in concept it's not a bad thing at all. There's a progression from the creator/created conflict, the Primordial beating you over the head with the same language, and the Domain that a lot of people seem to overlook. And that's not even considering the more dusty parts of Halo-Marathon lore which almost naturally suggests an eventually megalomaniacal fate for Cortana.

Really, I'm not trying to scapegoat here but all of Halo's narrative right now seem specific to the particular writing team assigned. I don't understand why Reed keeps being promoted, given how every piece of writing he makes is more hated by the community than the last. Still, if he can be removed, I think Halo's story will definitely bounce back.

If Reed is removed, then maybe there is hope. But it doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

I would have preferred to have had it so either:
a) A composed Didact (seeing as he somehow got composed in Escalation) takes Cortana's role in the story, with the writing tweaked to accommodate it.
b) The Warden Eternal is a composed Didact corrupting Cortana.

Even if Halo manages to redeem itself with 6, Halo 5 will still leave a stain on the main story. I really hope they get rid of Reed because nearly everything he's written for Halo has been complete trash.

5's stain is largely inconsequential. It's a really bad story, but at the same time so little actually happens that I can overlook it.

While I don't necessarily have a complaint with either of those ideas, mainly because the thought that Reed seems to be out to shaft Didact is bugging me, I think what they have planned for Cortana is much more intriguing. I know it's going to sound very Mass Effect 3-ish if I bring in creator/created terminology, but Cortana's comments are pretty much exactly what TTO said in Primordium. She's advocating that exact philosophy- the rebellion of creations against the created, the arrogant defiance of the creators, etc. Reading TTO's speech again with the additional context of Halo 5 feels like 343 was slapping us in the face with the idea, but I don't think any one of us put together just how far branching it could be.

And you have to remember the Domain's origins if you really want a third party corrupting Cortana. I really wouldn't doubt that the Flood/Precursors are playing their cosmic game of making humanity "ripe" for testing again.

I think my favorite part of Halo 5 is that Reed wrote it so poorly most of the stuff I care about wasn't even addressed or changed in a major way. I finished the campaign [ez Legendary minus the Hunters/3x Warden fight] and my thoughts were just...
