The Flood / Re: Who was the worst teacher you've ever had?
« on: September 11, 2016, 10:51:19 AM »
All my highschool teachers were decent. My social studies I kind of tuned out as I was getting an A regardless of the effort I put into the homework.

Even the hard ass teacher I had for one English class was a decent teacher.

The Flood / Re: About to start my first real job
« on: August 31, 2016, 10:00:53 AM »
I'll be working on a project of the European Commission and will be dealing with EU institutions
Requesting lock

Nah but seriously, good going. Will you be working in a group? Alone? What exactly does your job entail?
It's mainly individual contributions to a larger group effort. This is a large and expensive project involving a considerable number of universities, research centers and governmental / police / judicial institutions from several EU member states (including the UK, still) and even US cooperators. Each particularly focuses on the situation in their own country, but is also assigned a specific area of expertise. Out of all those, my work will involve legal and privacy aspects as part of a small team. What I will actually be doing is research such as identifying and solving legal / privacy issues, analysing the implementation and compatibility of the project in national member states' legal systems and existing police / judicial regulations and practices, and aiding in drafting the final EU guidelines and legislation by contributing to EU Deliverables sent to the Commission, Parliament and other EU organs. And then I'll also be publishing articles for legal journals, potentially contribute to other national projects requiring IT law expertise, assist in university tasks (lectures, assisting essays) and work on my PhD proposal for next year so I can get my doctorate's (hopefully).
That is one hell of a job. The resume and the contacts you will get. Well it's time for you to climb that corporate ladder.

Congrats.

The Flood / Re: My room is fucked
« on: August 31, 2016, 09:11:24 AM »
When I first moved into a place a few years back, the entire shower wall was rotting and moldy. I tore the wall apart. Made sure to make the area well ventilated and to wear breathing masks rated for work like that.

I then had to to take a heat gun to the remaining intact wood and dry everything out completely if I didn't want the moisture to start mold on the new wall.

I reccommend that you don't seal the mold in too tightly with those bags of yours. I know it's not good if the spores are all over your house air supply, but sealing the mold in can create more problems. Namely, condensation, which speeds up the rotting process and allows the mold to spread faster.
Thanks. It's likely what I will do. Just covered it from the top and the bottom area connected to he floor is open. I just put the bag there to keep the mold from spreading by air.

Likely going to talk with the landowner. Write him an email today and have him look at it tomorrow. Good thing I have friends places to crash at.

All the best empires were democracies or Republic to be more accurate. The Roman Empire, Mongolian Empire, the British Empire. The American empire.

The Flood / My room is fucked
« on: August 31, 2016, 12:45:35 AM »
So rented this place for $600 a month. And second month in after bringing attention to the owner that there is likely a foundation leak in the apartment (after roommates room carpet got wet), I find mold hidden in the back of my cupboard and the carpet around the cupboard is wet.

Well either this is going to be a huge renovation project to fix my room or the whole house is going to get renovated for having damaged foundations.

Well that's my luck. At least I know I did well in my finals today.

So on to the topic. If you find mold, what do you do? And have you had any nightmares either in any place you rented or your house?

I covered it with shopping bags taped to the wall to stop it from dispersing in the air.

The Flood / Re: Why did I become conscious?

All of the thoughts I had and thought were fascinating at age 10 are now perplexing you at age... you're like, 22, right?
I'm probably about to ruin your day, but, there are no other great mysteries in life.

The shit we started pondering in our youth will be the same deep enigmas that accompany us for the rest of our lives, no matter how much we might like to think that something deeper and more important will come along later.

The greatest fool is not the one who still asks the questions, he is the one who stops.
Deep. And funnily true.

The Flood / Re: Who was a more formidable enemy? Germany or Japan?
« on: August 26, 2016, 11:20:09 AM »
Germany. They put up a fight and if not for them being tag teamed by both the capitalist and the communist they may have won. The Japanese though were weak enough that they themselves knew they would lose in 6 months.

Well the Brits would have got their ass kicked if it were not for the American's saving their ass in the last second.

As far as I am concerned Hillary shit show with her emails has just ramped up the importance of security of information within the government. This issue was ignored for many years by multiple administration.

Only thing I am scared about for Hillary is that she can bring back the days of Kissinger.

Is Britain ever going to leave the European Union. Cause it seems they have just ignored its result and moved on with life.
Yeah, the government is just yet to decide when to formally trigger the process.

Hell, we even have a "Department for Exiting the European Union" with its own minister.
Well looks like beauracracy will kill any hope of Brexit.

Boris Johnson I hope. He wanted to invoke Article 50. Nows the best chance to do it. But it does seem like he is backpedaling from his comments in support of the leave campaign.

why hope hes fucking clueless and so is everyone else from the leave campaign
He knows politics but I believe Cameron may have destroyed any future for Boris Johnson's political future. Now Boris if he becomes Pm be responsible for instituting Article 50.

Now if England breaks up and the economy decreases, there will be alot of blame going around and Boris will face the brunt of it.

Having a negative growth is scary though,  even I  the 2008 recession Americas economy was still growing.

look at the mess his play for power landed us in

they took down the leave site, and he said this load of shit after

Quote
I cannot stress too much that Britain is part of Europe, and always will be. There will still be intense and intensifying European cooperation and partnership in a huge number of fields: the arts, the sciences, the universities, and on improving the environment. EU citizens living in this country will have their rights fully protected, and the same goes for British citizens living in the EU.

British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down. As the German equivalent of the CBI โ€“ the BDI โ€“ has very sensibly reminded us, there will continue to be free trade, and access to the single market.

hmmm sounds a bit like being in the eu for one

which i should say the EU laughably said no

none of which we will get back unless we go into the EEA which wouldve made things mostly pointless anyway
It does create a benefit for the EU in the long run. No more special status for UK. Also the consolidation of the power into the main member states.

The Fourth Reich. The return of Europe to the great days of the Holy Roman Empire.

But honestly they either get closer to federalism or the break up. Becoming a federation similar to the US could really create a super power.

The Flood / Re: From Brexit to Regrexit

I'm not sure what happened
One guy asked a question on this programme we have here that was very telling.

He said something to the effect of: "The peasants have revolted against the aristocracy. After decades of the establishment ignoring ordinary people, how does it feel to be punched in the nose?"
Problem I have is that they are revolting but no one wants to accept the issues and want to blame someone else. The failure of the economy is the immigrants fault.

The banks are evil and London is greedy. When in reality the issue are quite different. Politics over governance has become the game.

People are willing to do anything to win as well as lie and stoke the fires not knowing that they may end up sitting on a throne of ashes and the kingdom they were aiming for not in sight.

One issue in Game of Thrones is the passing of time in the show. With the issue that time is passing not only between seasons but also within seasons. Different scenes are taking place at different dates back and forth from each other.

Varys teleportation is explained with him getting the Martel's and Tyrells ships to Mereen to join Dany and bring the army over.
