Ehh, hate speech and threats are usually considered illegal. Why the danish cartoonist may have been prosecuted may be because of slandering which comes close to jate speech for some people that could insight anger and chaos. It was i believe demonising muslims for following the religion of muhammed. Comes close to hate speech, as it was targeted.

It is not criticizing, but if you make a cartoon that attacks makes jesus looks stupid or an evil person and that is personifying christians as idiots etc. Demonizing christians with that cartoon. Yes it is hate speech. Same thing a joke that demonises Jews would also be considered hate speech, depending on where you are. Free speech althpugh good, people have abused it and we have lost the right in many countries.
