The Flood / The Movie Theater Industry
« on: May 02, 2020, 07:51:15 PM »
I debated whether or not to put this in Serious, but I figured it wasn't super serious business technically so....

With movie theaters shuttered for a while, there's been a lot of talk about whether or not they were even viable even before lock-downs became common place and the virus has certainly gave it a blow to the knees. Big companies like AMC are rumored to be filing for bankruptcy and several big titles have made their way to VoD in time frames where they should've still been in theaters had they been open.

Disney's Onward is now on Disney+ after only a small window of being in theaters before the lock down really went into place; but the biggest movie in the discussion is Trolls 2. That movie went instantly to VoD via Amazon Prime and despite Amazon being very stingy with their revenue numbers, it's estimated that it already made back its initial investment in only a few days. The fact that this was a family movie only further creates problems for the theater business. Most families will look at streaming as a much cheaper alternative for getting to see the same movie.

Big studios like Disney, Universal, & Paramount would immediately cut out the middle-man theater business if straight-to-streaming was proven to be a viable alternative and Trolls World Tour has been a perfect example of that being the case. I don't know how to feel about this. One the one hand, most of the movies I go to see nowadays are Fathom Events, either anime screenings, classic re-releases, or art-studio plays. Those have a higher premium ticket price than the already high ticket price for a standard movie in most locations. I'm easily looking at $30 for just myself when I also take concessions into account, although using various reward programs has helped alleviate the price somewhat.

On the other hand, I'm also one of those snobbish art critics who considers seeing my Chinese cartoons on the big screen with the sticky gum on the floor and hearing the crowd go nuts at whatever bullshit happens on screen as an authentic movie-going experience. Certain movies have become social events (Hence I guess why its called Fathom Events) and you just can't recreate that experience from the comfort of your home. Going to the movies is also a social experience, I think the last time I went to see a movie by myself was Pacific Rim 2 and needless to say ignoring the fact that it was a garbage movie, it was also a lonesome experience and I've always gone with somebody to see a movie afterwards.

In my personal opinion, family movies will begin to get phased out of theaters regardless of when society reopens. It simply makes too much sense for both the consumer (budget-focused families) and the producers (cutting out the middlemen) to maximize efficiency and cost. But big KINOPLEX 9K theaters will still be around for generic Marvel capeshit #843 and college-dropout director films that are thinly veiled pornos disguised as Neo-Noir NC17 art films.

What are your thoughts?

The Flood / Evangelion 3.0+1.0 General NEW TRAILER AND RELEASE DATE
« on: April 26, 2020, 06:50:04 PM »
I would just like to publicly tell Verbatim that I believe he is the most quality member here on this forum. Not a single letter on the keyboard he presses when posting here is a wasted effort. While I may not agree with him on a lot of things, Hell even 99% of things, he is truly an eye-opening individual. I have this newfound interest in aspiring to be more like him. I'd even go as far as to say that telling LC he was going to eat his innards or whatever it was was still a worthwhile endeavor.

Verbatim, I sincerely hope you continue to post as you always do.

Now please post your Evangelion Q review.

EDIT: Updated title as news/information on the last Eva movie comes out.

The Flood / Entertainment/Package Review Thread
« on: April 22, 2020, 07:27:05 PM »
A while back I had preordered the LE Japanese release of the Konosuba Crimson movie on Bluray. Luckily CDJapan is still doing deliveries through FedEx priority and I received my copy the following the afternoon after it had shipped. When you choose the most expensive option for shipping, not even a port-closing pandemic appears to stop deliveries. Here is all the product information for my order.

Images below were also taken to test the quality of my iPhone 8 camera in darker areas without the use of the flash.

- 9800 yen, so roughly $91. I believe with the shipping my total was around $114.
- Package came with a CDJapan bonus exclusive, a leisure sheet with artwork of the main girls, it is very big.
- Before I thought only UFOtable/Type-Moon works had a special sleeve wrapped around the digi-pack box; but then I remembered that when I imported my Japanese release of Shin Godzilla on Bluray it also came with a sleeve and I plan on getting the Your Name BD box and I've seen that box also comes with one. Still a nice touch to have generic info on the product without ruining the box itself.
- The limited edition also comes with a short novel written by the creator(?), it's a very small book; it can almost fit in your pocket. Seeing as this is the Japanese release I have no idea how to read it since I don't know moon rune.
- The cardboard box the book comes in also has artwork on the back, I'll just keep it stored with the digi-pack sleeve.
- The BD box itself has special artwork different from the other versions of the release, back of the box is just plain white with the series title in the middle. Box itself is also very sturdy feeling.
- 50 page booklet with character/location info, interview descriptions (in Japanese obviously) and some artwork. Upon skimming through the book, I didn't realize just how much effort the animators put into the background of their areas, there's a lot of detail that one can easily miss when watching the show/movie.
- Jewel case has the standard movie poster image as the cover and the fantasy themed background inside.

Lastly, and obviously the most important: Megumin > Aqua. Images below.

Gaming / General Persona Thread
« on: April 16, 2020, 05:55:21 AM »
Anyone else playing this? I never really touched my copy of Vanilla 5 after I got halfway through Madarame's Palace but I've just cleared Junya's Palace and I'm still not burned out or anything despite only having Royal for two days.

I can still see the combat changes like ammo for your guns replenishing after every fight and that helps tremendously with the grinding. All the reviews I read just state the same thing; how it made an already perfect game even better, and unanimous praise all around I can definitely see it. I know there was some complaints about rereleasing 5 on the same system and Japanese players asked why I couldn't have just been an expansion DLC, but with the way the entire system feeling overhauled I don't see why not to rerelease it as Royal when Persona 3 did the same thing with FES.

Gaming / Final Fantasy VII Remake
« on: April 03, 2020, 12:22:07 AM »
Against my better judgement I went ahead and preordered the game because I'm a sucker for steelbooks and art books. From what I've been seeing I still don't know how to feel about everything. I never really liked Midgar in the original FFVII and was happy to leave it when I did, but everything I see in the trailers does look fun and enjoyable.

However I also saw a part of the ending and from what people who have the game already are saying, they're adding more of the expanded universe stuff into the game, like they want to reimagine the game now that they can. I don't mind the expanded story of VII but Cloud is definitely weak in comparison to his original release self.

Anyways, what is everyone's thoughts on the VII Remake?

Spoiler
If SE is going to reimagine the game then God Almighty please let us save Aeris.

The Flood / So I’m reading The Communist Manifesto/Das Kapital
« on: January 04, 2020, 06:20:01 PM »
This book fucking sucks. Talk about a bunch of ideas/beliefs that haven’t aged well. the more I read it the more I’m confused at how Marxism was taken seriously.

In chapter 2 he talks about how the ruling class only wants marriage so that they can turn their wives into working serfs. It’s funny that around sixty years later in a conservative America that the wife working was a revolutionary idea, completely at odds with what he claimed.

Or how a middle-class person doesn’t exist at all in his mind. In his point of view it’s just hopping between being some caricature of a fat cat or literally starving on the streets.

I get that I have to take into account the time period and location he was in, but all of his notions of how society would turn out is ending up false and is backed by nothing but his own opinion.

Serious / 2019-2020 Trump Impeachment Trial
« on: December 18, 2019, 09:02:29 PM »
The House has approved two articles of Impeachment against President Trump.

Regardless of whether or not you hate/like him, I think this was an incredibly stupid move on the House's part. With the Republican Senate majority there is no way in Hell he is going to be convicted and removed from office. This was nothing more than a flex move for their reelection. Yes, his reputation will be tarnished but so will theirs when their constituents get angry at the fact that they failed to remove him from office.

Is he guilty? Probably. But looking back on history, Clinton was super guilty and I still think (after the fact) that he shouldn't have been impeached.

Anyways, general discussion on the matter here.

The Flood / Yugioh Locals
« on: November 26, 2019, 04:33:47 PM »
I play Yugioh at work with a friend of mine but he works in Tomorrowland and our shift times rarely match up so we don’t get to duel often if ever. Never the less I’ve been back into the game and I’ve been wanting to play more.

There’s a game shop about 20 minutes away that does Yugioh nights every Tuesday at 7, but not only have I been bogged down by situations preventing me from going (like tonight I’m at an auto care and they’re raking longer than normal) I’ve been a little anxious going in general.

Does anyone go to card game events? If so, what was it like for you guys?

Per Maverick and Das, I'm updating you all on the situation with that one girl that caused quite a bit of grief for me last year and what ultimately ended up happening since I haven't updated anyone on the matter since April of last year.

TL;DR: Bitch left our location and tried to get me fired on a lie. It fucking fails and she loses her dream job/location to me and now has to work around me every day knowing she lost.

EDIT: Never mind, it appears I was mistaken in thinking some people would have gotten over the fact that I failed to heed their advice and refuse to accept me admitting my mistake in ignoring them. You can't please everybody.

The Flood / The Popeye's chicken sandwich
« on: September 11, 2019, 01:19:36 PM »
I contemplated posting this in Serious but considering it's just fast fucking food of all things, and it's more of a blog/rant and I'll just be met with meme comments anyways I opted against doing so.

So for the past six months my roommates have been waging a war with each other over the dishes, I want absolutely no part in that and considering half the dishes """go missing""" I just eat out every day instead. Expensive? Very much so, I learned to appreciate dollar menus and meal deals. Unhealthy? You fucking know it, only eating once a day is probably whats staving off morbid obesity for me. But what's most annoying is when my lunch plans get ruined by fucking nothing.

I would go to Popeye's about once a week or so to get a 3-piece meal and some fries. It's like 6-7 bucks where I live so it's somewhat reasonable. However since they released that new chicken sandwich lines are out the door and the drive-thru line blocks parking spaces also, good luck getting inside and getting your order placed within the hour, even with numerous papers on the windows saying their out of the damn sandwich.

"Just go somewhere else" Well yeah, no fucking shit. I don't have time before work to wait an hour in line while hearing people bitch about why they don't have a very specific chicken patty for a sandwich. The problem is although I nuked my social media account following that bleeding cunt's behavior last year (it's okay, I got my payback) I've been noticing everywhere online recently shilling Popeye's out the ass for free and seeing renewed "Ch-ck-fil-A is garbage anyway" posts flooding the internet. Quite frankly, it's downright annoying and so blatantly obvious that an agenda is being pushed. Out of pure spite I've been regularly going to CFA and I would go more if it wasn't for the fact those homophobic cow-worshiping cultists are closed on Sundays.

The point of all this I guess, is: Have any of you actually had Popeye's chicken sandwich? Is it actually worth all the fucking hype and shilling that's being forced down the internet? Or is the media still butthurt that CFA exists and can print money just by existing?

Yugioh is the best it's been at since I got back into it. Other than the first card above, most "meta" and top tier cards are plummeting in price and that includes their rarity. A prismatic-secret rare copy of Sky Striker - Mobilize Engage! is only like six bucks on TCG player. This is great for me.

Now if only I had the courage to go to locals.

The Flood / Fuck Hurricane Dorian

It's literally going to hit NOWHERE near central FL yet every store and restaurant in the area has closed shop and abandoned ship. I can't have my usual All-you-can-eat wings Monday at Hooters with my friends because they've closed up for today and tomorrow. Grocery shopping? Lol fuck you we're closed. Out with friends? Get board games and flashlights and hold up in your room preparing for losing power (even though the last two storms hit us straight on and we didn't lose power). Want to do literally anything? Fucking ghost town.

Oh and fuck the obsessed media blowing this shit out of proportion here in FL. We have the toughest building codes in the nation and the damn thing does a hard right and wants to fuck over the Carolinas so stop fear mongering here in FL.

"B-But you're going to get one of the heavy rain bands!"

The Flood / I got another transfer (blog)
« on: May 31, 2019, 10:25:06 AM »
I'm moving to Magic Kingdom, into the park proper. Still retail but I'm full time now so I finally get benefits and and I can bid for what days off and what kind of hours I want. I'm going to definitely be shooting for Tuesday/Wednesday off and to work nights. Still waiting on a transfer effective date.

Came at a pretty awkward time, though not that it's not welcome. Things at the resort have pretty much gone nuclear and I need to get away from all the sociopaths that I currently work with. I did interview for Fantasyland a few days ago and I'm still hoping I get call from them cause that'd be a higher pay rate.

Gaming / WoW Classic "bugs" and Blizz response
« on: May 19, 2019, 07:27:06 PM »
Several Zoomers are reporting bugs in WoW classic that are not in fact bugs, but normal features working as intended.

Quote
As we’ve discussed before, the nature of WoW Classic sometimes invokes different memories for different players, and this leads to certain misconceptions for some about what is or isn’t working as intended.

The following is a list of commonly-reported gameplay in WoW Classic that is not actually a bug, and is working as we expect it to:

Tauren’s hitboxes and their melee reach is slightly larger than other races.
Being critically struck while using /sit to sit does not cause abilities like Enrage, Blood Craze, and Reckoning to activate.
Using the “Automatic Quest Tracking” option does not auto-track newly accepted quests. (It instead will start to track an existing quest once progress towards an objective is started.)
Warrior health Regeneration is working at the expected rate.
Quests objectives and points of interests are not tracked on the map or minimap.
Completed quests are marked on the minimap with a dot. (and not a “?”)
Feared players and NPCs run fast.
Standing on top of other players while facing away allows spells and attacks to be used.
Creature respawn rates are much slower than in Battle for Azeroth.
NPCs which offer multiple quests may inconsistently display them as a dot or a “!” on the available quests list. They were inconsistent in 1.12, and we’ve reproduced the exact inconsistency they had back then.
Quests that are too low level for do not show up as a “!” in the game world.
Available quests do not display a “!” on the minimap.
On level up, the message: “Your skill in Protection increased to 15” was added in 1.12.1, and we’re intending to keep that.
We appreciate all of your feedback!

You think you do, but you don't.

The Flood / Knowledge of The NBA
« on: May 06, 2019, 10:27:22 AM »
So I have an interview on Wednesday for The NBA Experience, some new attraction opening up at Disney Springs to replace Quest. However I have resigned this interview to be practice for another one I have in two weeks for Star Wars Land. I would still like this one to go well though, because a full time job is a full time job and there's no guarantee that the Star Wars one is going to work out even if I can show them I have extensive knowledge of the IP. My only problem is I don't have any knowledge of the NBA at all and while I can just look up basic stuff with simple Google searches, they're probably going to want more in depth/personal opinions on the subject.

What are some things you guys know/opinions you all have on the NBA?

Serious / Chipotle having ANOTHER illness outbreak
« on: August 03, 2018, 06:28:43 PM »
https://www.businessinsider.com/chipotle-illness-outbreak-health-officials-find-contamination-risks-2018-8

Quote
Health officials have inspected three Chipotle restaurants in Powell, Ohio, following reports from customers who said they got sick after eating at the restaurants.

In two of the restaurants, inspectors found boxes of raw chicken "leaning" on other packaged foods, according to health records.

The violations come as Chipotle has spent millions of dollars on measures to improve food safety.

The Delaware General Health District on Thursday found "boxes of raw chicken partially leaning onto boxes of packaged foods" at the Chipotle restaurant at 9733 Sawmill Parkway that's at the center of a suspected illness outbreak, according to health records. The proximity of the raw chicken to other foods presented a risk of contamination, the report said.

Following a visit to another Chipotle, at 8695 Owenfield Dr., on Wednesday, inspectors wrote that a "box of raw chicken" was "observed up against boxes of unopened beans and very close to ready-to-eat items."

Inspectors also found foods that were not being held at proper temperatures.

In an emailed statement to Business Insider, a Chipotle spokeswoman, Laurie Schalow, said: "Food safety is our number one priority and we are proud of the industry leading practices and training we have in place across our system. These instances where two SEALED packaged products were next to each other in the walk-in refrigerator were immediately remedied."

DGHD said late Thursday that it had received 703 calls and emails concerning potential illnesses stemming from the Chipotle restaurant on Sawmill Parkway. Officials have tested customers' stool samples but have not identified a source of the suspected illness outbreak and are conducting further testing. The location temporarily shut down on Monday for cleaning and reopened on Tuesday. No customers who ate at the restaurant since Tuesday have reported becoming ill.

DGHD has also received three reports of possible illnesses stemming from two other Chipotle locations — the restaurant on Owenfield Drive and another at 1710 Columbus Pike — prompting inspections of both.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of flak for this, but I'm definitely one of those loyal customer type people; I used to eat at Chipotle twice a week. As much as I love their food and think they're a great company, I can;t help but find this hilarious, they can't seem to catch a break with their health code problems.

In other restaurant news: McDonald's new burger is surprisingly not shit, Taco Bell Nacho Fries are still badass, the Outback near my house now delivers, and I'm one visit away from a free appetizer at Hooters.

The Flood / AMA Just aced a promotion interview
« on: July 09, 2018, 03:58:42 PM »
My last interview was only 15 minutes, lots of silence and quick short responses, and a half blank resume.

This one was 35-40 minutes, long detailed stories, a full page resume on resume paper, and both interviewers telling me I did exceptionally well, looked sharp, provided great answers/questions, and that I had the experience they wanted. Basically telling me I had the job without actually telling me that because they went through the whole "We have other candidates we have to interview as well" spiel and that they'll give me their answer soon.

When Jesus Christ was 21 years old, he came to Japan and pursued knowledge of divinity for 12 years. He went back to Judea at age 33 and engaged in his mission. However, at that time, people in Judea would not accept Christ's preaching. Instead, they arrested him and tried to crucify him on a cross. His younger brother, Isukiri casually took Christ's place and ended his life on the cross.

Christ, who escaped the crucifixion, went through the ups and downs of travel, and again came to Japan. He settled right here in what is now called Herai Village, and died at the age of 106.

On this holy ground, there is dedicated a burial mound on the right to deify Christ, and a grave on the left to deify Isukiri.

The above description was given in a testament by Jesus Christ.
