Serious / Re: If censorship improves a work, should it be done?
« on: January 27, 2016, 08:18:51 PM »
So instead of trying to use logic to create more pleasure, you use it to say pleasure isn't worth attempting to have in the first place? This all rides on the belief that pain isn't worth pleasure, which is false since you weigh them equally. And that's an entirely subjective scaling system on what counts more. Some people may feel pleasure from pain, what about them? Others feel pleasure is worth more because of pain, are they ignored? This mindset relies on there being an objective scale of pleasure/pain which doesn't exist in any way. shape, or form.

Because the absence of pain is intrinsically good.

The absence of pleasure being "not bad" is just a basic observational fact. If I am not currently experiencing pleasure, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's certainly better than feeling pain or suffering or discomfort or any other negative sensation--so it's not bad. It's neutral.

If there were no people, there would be no pain, no suffering, no discomfort, no anything. That's a good thing.

The absence of pleasure and happiness isn't a bad thing.

If you never existed, how can you tell the absence of pain is good or for that matter, the absence of pleasure is not bad?

Their existence does not outweigh the pain and suffering in the world. Not even close.

You act as if pleasure, love, and happiness just don't exist.

You didn't really think this through all the way did you champ?

It's not because of "muh feelings." Did you even READ the fucking post I linked you?

Pain and suffering. That's what life is. You have no right to impose that on anybody.

That's why Japan is evil.

>Half the shit linked is crap nature did not intend

If something is hardwired into our brains for us to do, there's a reason for it. Having a purpose is in itself, logical. Doing something mindless and without reason is illogical. Ignoring a drive that has been built into every living thing for billions of years because of "Muh feelings" is probably the most irrational thing you can do.

Any group of people outside of Japan that owns a Dakimakura would make that point irrelevant.

How about I ridicule Japan for being a disgustingly perverted nation full of 25 year old virgins who fuck pillows with images of young cartoon girls on them?

I think one of the top qualities is the ability to unite people under a belief, to make them become apart of it and become it.

You're entire argument in that post you linked me boils down to:

>Nature isn't rational

Which is a load of crap, if anything nature is too logical. Humans are irrational beings because of free thought. To make a claim that we should go extinct because it isn't "rational" shows that you yourself aren't human. This is not a good thing, science and math proves that nature is rational, so to go against what nature says is irrational which is what you're doing with your belief. Now I'm not saying it's wrong to go against nature, but don't try to make any form of moral high ground when you claim that extinction is somehow rational when that certainly isn't the case.

oh, indisputably

That explains why their crime is lower, their education is higher, their standard of living is higher, and yes, when your only social problem is your population dropped by a third in 30 years, you kind of do want your younger generations to fuck like rabbits. The whole "Japan is le crazy maymay" is just that, a stupid meme. In actuality, their culture is no more awkward than any other, and just because you personally don't agree with it, doesn't mean it's wrong.

but japanese culture is literally dogshit if you think having the age of consent at 13 y/o is a good idea

their culture needs to be destroyed

So why do you care? If some game developer chooses to make their game this way, who are the prude Nintenbabies to say that the audience that has been foaming at the mouth for this release can't have it because they're not mature enough for it?

Quote
so it would be wise to want to appease the largest number of people possible.
You want to know why this logic fails? It's because Japanese developers don't create shit to appeal to the most amount of consumers possible. Developers create shit THEY like and if it gains a following, they create content for their fans, not people who sit on the fence on whether or not they might enjoy it, because that disenfranchises the people who matter: their original fans. The mass appeal style approach fails in the long run (look at Halo 5 as a perfect example of trying to appeal to more people), it has an inverse effect.

We're talking about a culture that only cares about only it's fans so much, when they release a movie they just take a plain box and slap the title of the movie on it and stick in stores expecting it to sell. And it does. They're not going to waste time on trying to appeal to the masses, because they know their committed fans come first and they'll already buy the movie/game/book over someone who goes "well.....I need more information on it....."

And it's showing with Nintendo of America. They have been demonized to Hell and back for this, Nintendo is trying to use it's garbage western approach on a product that wasn't designed for that kind of advertising. Do you the developers who made Fates cares what you have to say on the subject of their work? They only care about the people who want to buy the game, and their mindset (the correct mindset) is conflicting with NoA and it's showing with the current reception Fates has before it's even released. Nintendo is shooting itself in the foot, and this is all ignoring the very simple truth that censorship regardless of intent or reason, is just plain bad.

Whatever faint interest I once had in exploring the Fire Emblem series has violently evaporated upon realizing where the franchise is currently headed--especially with regards to how it treats its female characters.

The Flood / Re: I know everyone hates Attack of the Clones, but...

Episode III to me was the best considering there was more action than exposition, in terms of story telling, Lucas did himself a favor by having a gap between II and III with the Clone Wars which lead to a different personality Anakin that was probably the best out of the three we got. Also, the fighting (which we got plenty of) was pretty stellar.

Yeah me too. It's weird, but I think Episode 2 is probably my favorite of the prequels. On repeat viewings Episodes 1 and 3 are quite boring, but Episode 2 seems nicer to watch. Plus Obi Wan vs Jango is my favorite prequel fight.

Episode II had noticeably less JarJar in it though and the acting in I was pretty bland compared to II and III. Sure II was very melodramatic but at least half the cast didn't come off as planks of wood.

I'm sorry but I simply cannot get past that drunken line reading between Anikin and Padme that barely resembles any known form of human interaction, much less a romance that someone would willingly throw away their career as a Space Wizard over.

It doesn't take much for me to enjoy a movie, I was even alright with Transformers 2 and 3, but for god's sake Attack of the clones was legitimately hard to watch.

I would need to hear a longer version before I make a judgement call like that. A "full" version of V's Imperial March is roughly three minutes whereas this is only 47 seconds.

Slightly off-topic: Attack of The Clones was still IMO far better than The Phantom Menace which is currently a real challenge to watch from start start to finish.

Being remembered on B.net wasn't necessarily a good thing, especially if you weren't able to use your Halo emblems as your avatar as the opened the floodgates for mass impersonations.

If it's any consolidation, I'm not remembered anywhere either.

But I'm not crazy or anything, so I suppose that's a plus.
