So all of us agree that the rules need to be applied more consistently. Everyone seems to be "for" increasing the length of punishments, but that varies anywhere from three days to a month. The topic of repeat offenders seems split between continuing the current progression (increasingly long ban times) and a permaban after x amount of bans (no decided number given, other than comparing it to baseball).
Overall, the rules need to be revisited on three accounts: consistency in application, consistency in severity of punishment, and finding other loop/holes that haven't been discovered yet.
Prime Snake for mod.
What a fuckin' gem eh?

- Harsher punishments (24 hr base ban, etc....) - Clearer rules, Spoiler rule - One week ban for intentional spoilers - Thread Specific Permissions - Forum-only Monitors with special powers
What else
More staff in general. I don't give a single fuck who it is but please, more people.

I think... maybe, this thread is an indication that people want change, real change in the way the rules are handled. However this proceeds I think that point is clear.

If you can call out members, spam, and harass people without even getting a three day ban, spoiling a shitty game franchise shouldn't garner a month long ban. That's ridiculous.
As far as I'm concerned, breaking all the rules need more severe punishments. Ooh, you don't get to go on Sep7agon for a few days. Maybe you'll shine your shoes with the extra time.
I'd agree with that, but anything over a week for any type of spoiler is far too long. Telling someone to fuck off or kill themselves in a non-banter way should be higher than spoiling a game.
That's essentially what we're saying.

Tell me what you think is so severe, TBlocks, that it deserves a weeklong ban off the bat.
Well given the situation I would say these spoilers as a good example. It's obvious how much trouble it's caused so quell that by showing it's not tolerated. By letting someone get off with something like this shows weakness and cracks in the rules.
Also, anything the jeopardizes someone's well being or mental health needs severe punishment. The fact that suicidal people can told to kill themselves without consequence is fucking retarded.
Totally this. It's ridiculous that's still a thing.

Hold another vote if you really wish. Hybrid, non-strict moderation would still win. Give it time. People will eventually see the merits of such a system.
Been 9 months since the last vote and we're doing fine.
Let me know when you want us to organize it.
nothing you could do on this site would result in a immediate week to month ban And that, fundamentally, is my problem with the system.
holy fuck I agree with Verb. But that quote from Yutaka is so brutally and horribly showing this system's flaws.
I'm sorry, what?
Well if you can't get a week ban right off the bat for anything then what's the point of following the rules at all?!

It's a little shocking at first but hopefully we can perhaps help out a bit... That last line is something I've been asking myself for a while.
My guess is they need to revenue, which is understandable but I'd rather see more ads on my screen than have to deal with this shit.
Any other scenario besides incompetence doesn't make sense to me.
Well... I'm not going to say anything without all the knowledge on it first but I wouldn't rule out the latter. With that being said, when you're being told (by a staff member) not to come to a site because another user could muck up your experience there... well, it's kind of laid out right there.

I can't believe I'm just realising how poorly this site operates
fuck me
Make the punishments severe. Only people who break the rules will be affected, and as far as I'm concerned, those people deserve it.
Why do we need to pander to these fucks that add nothing but negativity to our forum?

One month bans for a spoiler will not happen, I can guarantee you that much. And what if they break more than one rule at a time?
That'll come down to the staff handling the situation.
Even if we were to throw a harassment charge in, you're still looking at no more than a few days, at most.
But why? That barely constitutes a minor nuisance. Are we that strapped for members that we can't dish out justice when needed?
Posting malicious attacks or repeatedly harassing members will carry penalties ranging from a 10-20% warning for the first offense, to lite-bans of various lengths.
Let's say we gave Gatsby a warning for harassment - it was only his first or second offense if i recall, so his impact from harassment would be small, maybe a day lite-ban.
Spoiling, depending on what we decide, will be a few days at most.
As I said, there is no way we are going to ban people for weeks to a month for posting a spoiler.
I'm not saying that but it seems that a few days is barely anything at all when it seems this had caused a significant disturbance to people who care about it.

The punishments will be interesting to hear. I'm still disappointed Guts is getting off easy but I'm sure the team will draft up fair and harsh ( >:] ) punishments for this kind of stuff.

I don't see why anyone is talking of monitors, all they do is talk to the mods and lock threads, it's not like that gets to the mods faster than a report, PM, or IM like Skype, which most of us probably have a mod on.
A monitor specific to Gaming, especially Verb, would be more effective.
Do you not see the word "Monitor" or do you honestly think they can ban people and edit posts? Because they can't.
Doy. A monitor, specific to Gaming, with specific abilities like being able to remove spoilers and such.
Verb is best suited for such a role, because of how prominent he is in Gaming, and how he follows the rules much closer than even the mods do.
You do realise he was rejected for being a monitor with no power anyway? Hardly a bad idea, but to even think he'd be made a monitor with special abilities over the norm, when he was told "no" is rather silly. It might be a decent idea for Cheat to look into, then again, I maintain my position that the staff is understaffed and the introduction of two monitors when they need mods was an incredibly stupid move by the staff.
PM'ing the mods over everything is extremely inefficient.
a report, PM, or IM like Skype
Holy shit I agree with you on something!

boo hoo
Dude seriously?
they were bitching so much about LC supposedly spoiling the game i just had to do it.
Yup. There was an extraterrestrial force pushing you towards the post button.
there was no force making me doing anything, i could see how important the game is to them and i did it regardless because their rage would be entertaining
Alrighty then. Should be a fun time in the slammer for you.

i'd nominate myself because fuck people who post spoilers purposely, but i didn't want to big myself up. i can forgive accidental spoilers though, as long as they aren't anything important.
But then Gats comes along with his dick out, lathering himself up in MGSV spoiler oil, and sliding around more than phil kessel in the playoffs
I almost died from this.
