Btw should I bring Melee and a couple controllers tomorrow?

Yeah, that would be ideal. I'm still going to bring my controllers to test them out, but I don't wanna be in a position where our controllers are not allowing us to enjoy Melee fully, y'know?

I'm coming to school tomorrow so I can take that stuff off your hands until you meet us at James' place. Bring your memory card, too. I assume you have all characters unlocked...
Sounds good.
and yes all the characters are unlocked.

You can still shield grab.

It's a much worse option against real players (because it's very punishable), but a decent option against CPUs.

If push comes to shove, I can just shell out some more money for working controllers. I plan on getting as good as possible at Smash, so a functioning controller is probably going to be a high-priority for me.

But I've yet to play with these "broken" Z buttons. TBlocks and I are hanging out tomorrow to play some Melee, so I'll test it then. I don't know how responsive they actually are.
Ah shoot so they are going to be a problem. Btw should I bring Melee and a couple controllers tomorrow?

Bayonetta is a fictional character. It's not trying to be realistic. Her armor is her hair or some shit, I don't know. It's all random goofball shit.
That is my problem. I hate her design. I hate how she's unrealistic. I hate her random goofball shit.

That's my opinion. Go ahead and disagree.
LOL Now it's opinion. Before it was OBJECTIVE FACT AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN FUCK A DUCK.
Chally just stop...
He already admitted it wasn't objective.

3948
That one had been stewing for while ever since this thread took off. Fortunately I finally found the right words to adequately describe the idea, even if I wasn't entirely sure of it. So let me know what you think after a while, I'm intrigued.
So, yeah, I agree with you to an extent. Earlier, I was speaking from a position of objectivity, which was wrong of me, because the bottom line of my argument is that men and women should be portrayed as "realistically" as possible, which is sort of an appeal to nature.

In other words, I'm projecting my personal taste onto everyone else, which isn't right.

However, my personal taste is still my personal taste. That hasn't changed a bit. I don't think I can justify my arguments from a feminist perspective anymore--simply my own perspective. My values. You can accept or discard my values as you please, but I'm going to have my values. Nothing is preventing me from discussing my values with other people and attempting to persuade them into my line of thinking.

It just won't be from a feminist "sexual characters are sexist" standpoint anymore. It's not that it's sexist--I just really hate expressions of sexuality, and they're incredibly overdone in the game industry. THAT'S my problem.

I hope that made sense. I have a headache.
Getting back to this I do appreciate the change in attitude here.
But yes I also do see your point in not liking oversexualizing... to an extent that falls shorter than yours of course. But nonetheless I see where you're coming from.

3949
and no shit strong male characters exist, but there are fan serviced males too. I'm just saying that looking at it through one lens is wrong, and while they did fanservice some of those characters, THE ENTIRE POINT WAS THAT THE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY HAVE A CHARACTER AND PERSONALITY THAT OVERCOMES ANY OF THEIR DAMN LOOKS!

Regardless of if you like the outfits or not, that part is true.
Well, I did ask for female characters that are both strong and aren't designed to be physically attractive...
So you're saying what only qualifies is fat and ugly women?

Isn't that more shallow than anything?
i would like to point out that I think most girls in real life like to make themselves look good. Like, is that a point we've glossed over a bit perhaps? That a woman can try to look good and present themselves in a way that is attractive?
That's an obvious point of course but it is a realistic point imo.

3950
Many archaeologists wear tank tops... Generally because where they are working is a hot environment.

Ehh. Quiet has to wear a bikini so she doesn't suffocate.

There's pretty much no good reason to sexualise a character at all unless it progresses the story in some way...

I mean, I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to complaints about her design, but she's not perfect.
That really is scraping for a complaint... Like. Quiet is a different story entirely.
Lara is wearing something that works with her profession and environment... What more do you want?

3951
What would make it "fully there" then? I'm curious.

He simply wants there to be a good reason for her to look like that. And there never is a good reason.

I mean, a tank top is better than a bikini, but a t-shirt is better still and would fit perfectly fine with Lara specifically.

3952
Wait, no that was wrong. OKAY POINT IS

just because some skin may be showing, that doesn't always mean it's suddenly making the character shallow. Or if a woman has big breasts. A thing that may shock some people (brace yourself), is that there are women out there

who actually have big breasts

I know, crazy right? If women should all care you like you say, how are they supposed to feel when people suddenly condemn a character because of her bust size?
lara's redesign is a step in the right direction, but it's not fully there yet
What would make it "fully there" then? I'm curious.
I'm guessing this

Spoiler
That's a joke, Verb. Relax.
Are you kidding Luci? Look at that nose! I have never seen a nose that sexualized. Disgusting!
lol

3954
No, you're talking about her physical appearance.
Which is her design.
I assume you mean that her physical design (appearance) and her character design (dialogue, traits, etc.) are the same.
Where some people would say the two are separate- that a character isn't tied to how they look. Sort of akin to "Don't judge a book by it's cover"

3955
And let's say it was acceptable to demand something be removed because it's icky and gross.
In this case he should be completely against transgenderism and homosexuality. There's no consistency in his philosophy.

It comes down to him thinking sex is gross. But at the same time, he values and respects the emphasis put on sex by transgenders, but dislikes expression of sexuality.

Literally what

Quote
The whole idea of sexual objectification is protecting the gender as a whole (male or female) and essentially assigning more value to the human body. (This is the part where I haven't thought this through in it's entirety I'm just throwing this out there for discussion purposes.) Wouldn't assigning the human body value as it is an appeal to nature? You're essentially saying that the human body should not be tampered with because they have to look "normal."

I don't know about that last bit but I thought I would bring it up.
How is saying "sex and sexuality should be destroyed" an appeal to nature in any way?

It's the opposite.
That's what my original problem was before posting that. But I meant it more as if he thinks there is a "normal" body and that's what he wants to hold onto because of it being "normal" (One could substitute this for "perfect" or something similar) then it is, in fact, an appeal to nature.

3956
One of my problems with what Verbatim is saying is how it's wrong for something to be sexual because (and I've seen him say this before and I think this is what it might boil down to) sexual things are icky and gross. Which in itself is hardly a reason to call for the death of all things sexual in games/media. Even if it's unneeded.
Well, it's also because I've yet to see a reason not to think sexual things are icky and gross. I can sit down and indulge in some pornography every now and then. I'm not proud of it--I just concede that I'm a human being with a libido, a sexual desire, that wants to be sated. But after I'm done, I can stand back, evaluate what I just "enjoyed," and come to the conclusion that I don't actually enjoy it--I'm just biologically hard-wired to find that sort of thing stimulating.

There's nothing intellectually valuable about it--it's just mindless gratification, and I don't think that sort of thing ought to be celebrated in any other medium. That's what I think. So I ask people why they think their sexual desire is worth expressing in other types of media.

No one has to justify their tastes to me, and I understand that. But I still don't get it.
Alright I understand that. That's fair.

...That's an interesting point. You're using your head, unlike challengerX. I respect that.

I don't really have a response. That caught me off guard.

I guess all I can really say is that I don't think it's the "natural order" that I'm trying to defend, exactly--but the more I think about it... That's still pretty much all I'm doing. That's what it boils down to. Huh.

I'll think about what you just said. You might have just changed my philosophy a little bit.
With a throwaway point you weren't fully confident with, no less.

It's fun to joke but Roman isn't that creepy tbh.
Ah yes... Giving someone a gift through a co-worker when that person is on the verge of calling the cops over you is just true love ain't it?
It's obvious he's exaggerating everything now. All of the stuff about having sex and wanting her back is true, but for the most part he's just posting any idea/thought that pops into his head, like a diary. Guarantee 60% of the people here have "creepier" thoughts they just don't post them like roman does
Thoughts are thoughts. They come and go but they aren't creepy unless you act on them.
Pretty good guess though.
