Moderators should moderate. I hardly think that having people who aren't Mr/Mrs Friendly as moderators would slow the flow of new users. It's the users themselves that are what people see when they log on and go to the front page of The Flood and better moderators would weed out more unsavory users as they are better at that specific job. Weeding out bad users.
But having "friendly" members post here is beyond our control. Appointing friendly, welcoming mods is entirely possible.
I'm not saying we need "friendly" members. But if we have people on staff who are willing to go the distance and actually moderate then it's likely the number of "friendly" members will increase.
But being unfriendly isn't against the rules, nor is being a colossal cunt. There's nothing that a moderator can do to the unfriendly members. Which is why we need to compensate for that and have amicable ninjas who can foster a more welcoming site.
It's that or start banning assholes. Which I wouldn't be entirely opposed to.
That's sort of what I was implying at the end. I mean Dustin was here for an unreasonable amount of time before he got perma'd. That's the sort of person that should be dealt with quicker. and again it's not about how friendly they are, it's entirely dependent on whether they follow the rules or not. If the rules are good and they are enforced then it should make for an enjoyable site.

I thought the community representatives would be the monitors while the ninjas were to enforce the rules.
There's no sense having two positions for what should be one position, though.
But we're talking about a place where you can't have both I thought. Either enforcement or friendly.

It's more than about enforcing rules. It shouldn't be. You should only have one job as a moderator -- and that is, to moderate. It isn't your job to represent the community, let's get a community manager if that's what you want.
Like it or not, any mod on any forum represents the community. And honestly, there's not much rulebreaking that goes on here. If Sep7agon wants to grow, we need to attract new members, and having a friendly staff is a huge part of that.
Class is right, and I'll cite the group of people who didn't want to join or were hesitant to join because of Kiyo (of which I was a part) as valid backing for the claim.
To be fair, just her being on the site was enough to do the same.
I still don't think she was a terrible mod as most people would assume... She was a decent mod who had a bad rep.
Okay mod, god awful people skills, on purpose of course.
That's true. She was terrible in that respect.

I guess it isn't so much that they're "weebs" but that there seems to be some favoritism in the picks because of the shows they watch and some of the inside jokes can be taken as a "circle jerk group." It doesn't have to be anything big (in fact it likely isn't) but it feels like they have this inside track on getting friends on staff. That's what it appears like at least.

A community manager wouldn't hurt tbh.
And they would do what?
Basically have Cheat's role in deciding when Anarchy is, having the final say on disputes in the community (joint position with LC of course) and putting together a comprehensive plan in growing the community.

I mean what is he supposed to do when his very identity is under siege? Kupo a lot of these do seem to be your bias getting involved...
He's done it to himself.
You're not really in a position to talk. The whiny child who would NOT STOP HARASSING STAFF until they gave you a pity position. Your outrageous sense of entitlement was why HQ was blocked off to future monitors.
It happens. I regret it but I feel I've changed for the better. Lessons were learned.

We're having family and I'm instilling a new tradition of making homemade pizza on Christmas day since one of my friends said their family does it.
It sounded good and fun. My nephew and niece would love it.
WOW TRADITION STEALING IS COOL GUYS
Are you ok?

Subjective. "But that's just my opinion."
Well it's true... In A New Hope, just after Luke fires the missiles into the Death Star's exhaust port. There's a good 5-15 seconds of pure music, leading up to the final explosion of the Death Star. Beautifully presented. Followed by a moment of pure euphoria as Han runs up to Luke and the two give the most brotherly hug of happiness ever. Brings me to tears.
In Empire Strikes Back. This one should be obvious. "I love you." "I know." This might actually be the most powerful moment, now that I think about it.
And finally, in Return of the Jedi, when Vader is taunting Luke on the Death Star. He brings up Leia, and Luke just loses it. His pure, unadulterated anger as he mindlessly swings and slams his saber into Vader's, paired with William's brilliant score. You can just feel the Dark Side winning. And then finally, Vader falls, and loses his arm. Luke sees the prosthetic limb, and as he looks at his own, he's reminded what he's fighting for. "You failed, your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
Just off the top of my head. Notice how there's nothing from Attack of the Clones, AKA the worst movie.
Spot on with all of these. I would say that Han dying fits right where it's supposed to here though. Right after the OT moments.

Heart of coal...
Hey, if you wanna talk about emotional/powerful moments in Star Wars, I'm game. But that wasn't one of them.
Subjective. But sure, since it's sharing time say the biggest one for you.

I was not moved by that scene at all. Maybe it's just because I knew what was going to happen, but I mean, anyone with a brain could've seen what was going to happen as soon as Han yelled "Ben!"
It actually felt kind of cheesy, tbh. I'm seeing it again in IMAX on Friday so maybe I'll appreciate it more then.
Heart of coal...

FUCK
Just realized a missed opportunity. Han's last words should have been "I'll see you in Hell"
Completely goes against the motions he did. Didn't you catch how even when he was dying he still cupped his sons cheek gently?
He still loved him, just like Obi-Wan still loved Vader somewhat when he 'killed' him (I still don't get that crap). It'll obviously play a huge part of his character in the coming movies.
For some reason that particular motion really got to me. It was... powerful.

I'm curious as to how Rian Johnson is going to handle the direction of Star Wars Ep. VIII.
Very well hopefully.
Lets just hope it's not "The Empire Strikes Back 2.0"
That's the main trick right now. Keep the train rolling from 7 but keep it off the OT rails.
But thats another critic issue I have with Ep. 7, it's literally a new hope 2.0, thats not being original at all, why couldn't they do something different? "Oh but the prequels did it different" thats called taking a new approach, its not bad if its done right. The prequels did an awful job (well minus Ep. 3, decent but not great) is because of George Lucas, if it was a different director (like J.J Abram) to direct the prequels with better writing and story, then my complaint for the prequels will be wiped away. There are times where taking a different approach isn't necessary, however sometimes taking a different approach isn't the main issue, it's how you handle it.
Yea I agree. Strange that J.J. isn't doing the next one though.
