*Sigh*
Let me guess... you don't understand why people like firearms?
Yea.
Why do you like hockey?
I started playing it when I was 3 and have grown up watching it and playing it.
It's a sport that I both enjoy watching and participating in.
And best of all I'm not shooting a lethal weapon. :^)
And shooting a lethal weapons is bad how? Not like gun ranges have people tied up and you fire at them. Just like with every hobby, it's about enjoyment, making friends, developing a skill, and just having fun
While having weapons that could kill dozens of people in seconds at your fingertips.
There's a difference between a hobby that you try to get an object in a net and a hobby where you could kill many people with any inclination to do so.
I would be surprised if you could kill dozens of people in seconds with a semi automatic rife.
With enough people lined up I'm sure it could be done.

"Excuse me, I intend to mass murder the lot of you. Can you all line up orderly so I can shoot you down like dominoes?"

Being in a town square.
Bank
Grocery store

You greatly over estimate shooter ability and the power of a chosen bullet. 5.56, the round everyone was panicked about, is a .22 caliber projectile that weighs about 55 grains. 5.56 is incredibly light. It's parent cartridge, .223 Remington is considered barely adequate for deer and is generally used for varmint hunting. Animals such as Prairie dogs, rabbits, and Coyotes. The reason the military adopted it was for it's ballistic properties in holding a reasonable trajectory at 300 yards as well as how light of a cartridge it is.

Now in a perfect storm where a shooter has a bunch of people in easy shot, you still probably could not kill the dozens in seconds you claimed. Considering non-lethal wounds and misses, also considering that standard capacity magazines are 30 rounds, dozens killed without a reload would be difficult to your average sperglord mass murderer. This is all assuming of course that the people have not fled at the first sound of a gunshot, and there isn't anyone carrying their own in the crowd.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lets take into consideration that you'd have a semi automatic rifle
The rpm is not enough to accurately hit and kill dozens within seconds
The people would immediently scatter making them difficult to school
Police or other people with guns would kill you in seconds
You're not a super shot, you won't be shooting everyone in the head
technicalities bro.
It can't be done. I could take my car to Times Square and kill a bunch of people too by running them over. Or fly a plane into a building.

They would have to be standing still and in a straight line I suppose, but the same thing can be said about cars or planes.
Not literally line up. But having a lot of people in one area.

You probably shouldn't tell him that there is a huge gun culture in Canada, he may get scared or something.
I'm talking on a personal level.

What makes you think that someone who owns a gun is such a danger? I own several, but I've never shot anyone. I have a lot of friends who own more than me, and have never shot anyone. The vast majority of gun owners in American and Canada have never shot anyone.

So what is it? Do you believe that YOU would not be responsible enough to own a weapon so you project that believe of self irresponsibility on everyone?
or
Is it good old fashioned hoplophobia?
Why do you own something you've never used?
Whoa whoa whoa, why do you think you have to use a firearm on a human, guy?
ah my bad. i read that wrong.

Except no law-abiding and responsible gun owner goes out and kills people. There's millions of people like me and we are held to the highest standards of the law because we don't commit crimes; that's kind of why we can own guns in the first place. Alternatively, you have car-related deaths that number higher than gun deaths yet these people still are able to drink and still able to drive after a period
Hey I'm not saying that owning a gun is the worst thing in the world.
I'm just saying I don't understand what drives a person to go out and purchase one.
That makes zero sense to me.
