Hi.

I now appoint you Grand Artist of The Empire.

TCW has it's merits. The show, in hindsight, was basically damage control for the prequels. It managed to make Anakin a likeable character, and Maul a salvageable one.

Earlier today I realized that I was actually excited about seeing Darth Maul in Rebels. TCW managed to make him a somewhat interesting character.

In regards to the Mandalorian stuff, I don't mind the new lore but I can understand why people don't like it. Personally I found Traviss' novels to be, well, masturbatory in regards to the Mandalorians.
And aspects of the old Mando lore have been recanonized. It's mentioned that when Kenobi was an apprentice the "Mandalorian Civil War" was an ongoing conflict. Sounds like a pretty similar scenario to the old Mando lore.
*reads what else Karen Traviss*

oh god you're so totally right, jeez. UGH. I'm glad I didn't suffer most of that.

In regards to TCW, I mainly disliked it for how it retconned like, everything else. It was impossible to reconcile the discrepancies it introduced. I'm sure it's probably an alright series from what I've heard, but my mind still treats it like some sort of lore-breaking, G-canon fanfiction.

I mean, seeing as the EU isn't canon anymore it isn't really lore-breaking.

I saw that the trailers are using fucking tweets with emojis as their "reviews", so I expect that it's awful.

Reading Lost Stars and I'm pretty put-off by how generic it is so far. Random people fall in love and are the best at everything by the age of 16 and every aspect of the plot revolves around how they want to fuck
but it has a ton of teen drama shit in it.
especially because of the high amount of sexual content

FUCK

Yeah I was very upset by it. They have sex twice, the book doesn't go into detail and we only "see" the immediate aftermath of such conduct, but it shouldn't be in a Star Wars book period. Pretty sure at one point there's something like "he had explored every inch of her body" or some trash at one point. I was pretty upset, and regretted buying an online version that I couldn't return or sell to Half Price books.

On a scale of fifty shades of grey and contact harvest, how bad is it?
Lol, I'm not saying it's anywhere near some other novels out there, but it's certainly too explicit for Star Wars.

Yeah, her novels consist of Mando-fellating and Jedi bashing.

I was in such disbelief about it that I had to research it just to be sure.

Wookieepedia:

There they have a heated exchange and then have sex a second time.
I'm mostly shocked that it's in a Star Wars novel of all things, and generally of the opinion that there's plenty of other ways for Star Wars to be mature. SW and sex just seem really, um, bad in my mind. And yet... I'm also a bit morbidly curious about it, too. A SW canon for like, grown-ups isn't an idea that's been entertained for... a long time, and sparingly at best.

But I'm also just yearning for more SW in general. At work today, out of the blue I was thinking back to the old prequel EU and how I gobbled up all of it that I could up to ROTS. I especially liked Jango's backstory and how it played into the larger narrative, and more recently the Darth Plagueis novel also tying a bunch of stuff together brilliantly. And then there's the ill-fated Republic Commando novels; poor Karen Traviss ragequit when the Clone Wars CG series kept retconning just about everything (it puts her Halo novels into context).

God, the Clone Wars ruined everything.

Actually I was able to get a refund on Lost Stars. Google let's you refund a book purchase for any reason as long as it's within seven days of the order.

Time to read more SW novels I guess, then.

Yeah, I'm glad I decided to read Twilight Company instead.

It's worth reading (one of the main characters commands the star destroyer that crashes on Jakku, and they witness basically every major event from the original trilogy), but it has a ton of teen drama shit in it.
You summed up my thoughts on the book. I liked stuff such as seeing the average grunts perspective of OT events (Executor chasing the Falcon through the asteroid field, etc.) but I hated the love story, especially because of the high amount of sexual content. The love story in the OT is good because it's romantic, but innocent. The love story in Lost Stars isn't; it feels dirty and out of place in a Star Wars novel.

I disliked the use of real-world phrases and slang in a Star Wars novel ("get your ass off my bridge", "badass", etc.).

I wish more time had been spent in the post-RoTJ era, because as a big history and politics buff I love the sound of what was mentioned, such as the Empire splitting up into a bunh of factions, battles over succession to the Imperial Throne, and so forth. All of that sounds awesome to me. I wish we had just gotten to see it

2741
About halfway through Twilight Company. Gets so much better towards the middle.

I'm reading Lost Stars.

Get your sex scenes outta my Star Wars Claudia Gray you fucking heathen.

Sex scenes in a young adult book?
For a young adult book it's fairly well written. A few too many colloquialisms used in our world ("badass" is used at one point for instance), but it's certainly a hell of a lot better written than Aftermath.

The scenes I mention take place in the... Ehm, immediate aftermath of such acts. To be frank I don't think strong sexual content, written or visual, has any place in Star Wars.

I think we can all agree that Vader's entrance here is fucking badass.
I think it's probably a vision, but we'll see.

Nope. It's near the Sith pyramid thing, see the streams of light coming down from the ceiling?

The vision is the part with the red mist and ashoka.

Can someone honestly explain to me why the KOTOR series was deemed "not canon"?

Seriously, the stories are good and The Old Republic is so detached from the movies it doesn't affect anything.

Bits and pieces of KotOR are being steadily re-canonized.
The Lucasfilm story group has basically said that until KotOR is directly contradicted, you can consider it canon

Okay then, i'm fine.
Before all of the Star wars games were deemed not canon. Didn't know if they were continuing that.
Again, bits and pieces of what is covered in the KotOR games have, and are, being recanonized. Officially, the KotOR games are non-canon, but as I said previously, the Lucasfilm story group has said that because they're so disconnected from the rest of Star Wars, until they're contradicted there's nothing wrong about the fans considering them to be canon.

I shall

At some point

You can skip around with TCW, there are quite a few really dumb episodes. There are also some pretty good ones, though. In particular I would recommend the Season 4 Umbara arc.

2754
I really want a Vader vs. Maul fight.

2755
All of the spin off movies have great potential.
Rogue One is probably the one I'm most excited for barring a Obi Wan or Boba Fett movie.

I know you and I have talked about this before, but if they make the Fett film anything other than a space western they dun' fucked up.

2756

Nobody going to comment on this? If it ends up being true it won't be much of a spoiler, as it'll probably be all over the advertisements for the film.

Which part is the spoiler, that Vader's in it? Because I think that was already known.

Yeah. I was just being cautious.
