Here's one of me sporting a very alluring "half-CIA" pose.

Yeah, guys I'm not really bothered by the fact that I didn't attend prom. I'm upset because there truly was no reason for me to go; I have no friends.

The fact that something as menial as prom bothers you says a lot.
Not bothered so much by the fact that I didn't attend prom. Bothered by the fact that after four years I haven't made any friends. Haven't interacted with people outside of school in four years.

Aw dude...
Maybe soon we can get online and play some DEFCON together and nuke the living shit out of everyone who opposed you.

That would be fun

Sometimes I have fantasies in which I kill myself and people actually remember me.

You don't gotta ask anyone, though.

If you don't have friends then I understand why you wouldn't want to go. Hope I don't sound rude.

Nah, it's fine.

Why would you not go to prom...?

Because I wouldn't know who to ask, and I have difficulty connecting with others.

I think the whole point of his character was supposed to be 'unlikeable degenerate snake' so that you are more sympathetic to the mongols.

So the answer would be: probably, even if nothing happened

I liked the setting and show but egh, netflix really needs to stop thinking with it's dick when it comes to OC.

With GoT so popular Netflix isn't going to tone it down anytime soon, unfortunately.

I imagine Netflix and HBO have a competition of sorts, where they try to earn points by having the most amount of nudity and sexual content possible.

"FUCK! That full frontal in the last episode of GoT put HBO ahead a whole 50 points!"

"Don't worry, we'll get back at 'em when we have a girl get assfucked in the next Narcos."

Did anyone watch it?

Easily one of the best episodes this season.

I have a feeling Chuck will die next episode or be left brain-dead.

Judging by the promo, Mike may try to snipe Hector, I guess. Could be what puts him in a wheelchair.

also if you take the first letter of each episode title this season and rearrange them you get:

Fifi
Rebecca
Inflatable
Nailed
Gloves Off
Switch
Bali Ha'i
Amarillo
Cobbler
Klick
= FRING'S BACK

Chuck hitting his head managed to be more sickening and scary than most violence in Breaking Bad.

Serious / Re: "Democratic Socialism is not Socialism"
« on: April 10, 2016, 09:05:02 PM »
As an aside, it's probably worth noting socialists have historically not had a great relationship with welfare. The modern welfare state is invariably the result of either old conservative notions of hierarchy (or, in the case of Bismarck, conservatives trying to cut off socialism's appeal) or liberals like Beveridge and Keynes seeking to extend some form of social justice into the government's function.

Mein main mann Bismarck. Fucking with socialists was one of his main pastimes.

Go up to her and say, "The map to Skywalker. We know you found it. And now you're going to give it to the First Order."

That doesn't even work as a line. It has no potential connotation outside of the film.

It's kind of weird that they seem to be repeating the cast of a white female outsider partnered with a black ex-Stormtrooper (just speculation) and a scruffy male Rebel. Maybe they're just trying to establish a new archetype, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

It's already sort of an archetype, though, and that's why the protagonist concerns me.

"Angsty/Defiant girl in her late teens/early twenties" is an archetype that has sprung up recently following the success of the Hunger Games films. The RO protagonist reminded me of the angsty protagonist of a YA novel, which bothered me. I'd rather Star Wars avoid following trends and instead try and set them.

In regards to the fact that she's female, I have absolutely no problem with female protagonists as long as they're good characters who don't feel forced. I understand there is a shortage of female protagonists in film. However, it isn't and shouldn't be Star Wars' sole responsibility to change this. I'd rather they alternate between male and female protagonists to avoid it feeling forced (heheh).

Furthermore on the subject of female characters/protagonists, I feel the current emphasis on "empowerment" is going to negatively affect female characters. The current trend is to behave as though prior to 2015 there have been no good female characters and it was the fucking dark ages or something. Ripley, Sarah Connor, Princess Leia. These are good female characters who are actually interesting because they have flaws, they have strengths and weaknesses. When Ripley, Leia, or Sarah Connor does something badass it doesn't feel forced/as though it's commentating on the subject of girls in movies, and thus doesn't take me out of the movie.

I think Leia is a more interesting character than Rey, because she is good at some things and has some flaws but also good qualities. Leia is very headstrong and confident, but as a result is a bit too sure of her own proficiency and intelligence and is a little too hesitant to trust in her friends. However, she's an excellent leader, thinks outside of the box, isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, and is a crack shot. But, she's not a pilot, which is one of the reasons she's ticked off throughout TESB: Leia is a person who likes to be in control, but throughout the movie she is in a situation in which she's not in control and there's nothing she can do, because she's not a pilot.

Rey has less flaws than Luke did in ANH, and this feels boring to me compared to Leia. However, it's the trend to completely ignore Leia and act as though Rey is the best character of all time.

Basically, what I'm saying is I'd rather they write good, well-developed female characters than "empowered" (boring) ones.

Lol, some guy on another forum is convinced that the hooded figure in the room with the Emperor's Guard from the RO trailer is Garindan. For those who don't remember, that's this guy from ANH:

I finally had time to watch the trailer and I'm actually looking forward to this.

Seeing the old stormtrooper design as well as other OT props had me nostalgic and excited.

And this new girl lead, hopefully she can be bae like Rey

The Stormtroopers look amazing now. The armor looks much more firm and less flimsy and plasticky. I love the new trooper designs too, they fit well with the old designs.

The Flood / Re: So I finally watched Star Wars Episode 7

I personally thought Rey and Kylo were great.

No one seems to like Rey, actually. Everyone says she's a mary sue, but I disagree. The only thing about her that made me raise an eyebrow was not only how quickly she was able to grasp the Force, but also how to wield a lightsaber properly. That seemed kinda like bullshit, but it's a kiddie fantasy flick, so I just don't care that much.
I also liked how the duel wasn't as flashy as the prequel duels with all that jumping around.

I'm in full agreement. What's great about the TFA duel is that what little flashy stuff is present in the duel, such as the jump spin and the twirling of the saber, is performed by Kylo Ren as a deliberate attempt to intimidate Finn, rather than as a legimitate combat move intended to defeat him. Kylo Ren was basically mocking Finn for being a nobody with no saber training, and was showing off in order to scare him. The moment that Kylo starts actually trying, the stylish stuff stops and Finn goes down. It's basically the same thing that happened in Empire.

Much preferable to the dancing seen in the prequels.

Can't wait to return to the OT era.

*cough*

*sneezes*

*throws up*

You're right, Star Wars hasn't focused on the  OT at all lately.
The OT era is the most interesting and the one that current media is most free to explore. Until Episode 9 is released we won't see much Sequel trilogy stuff outside of the films. And in regards to the prequel trilogy, we had a good decade or so when pretty much all we got was prequel era content.

I have no problems with the current emphasis on the OT, and I like that in the wake of the EU's end they're prioritizing the development of the OT era.
