I knew she and her husband made a web-series but I didn't know it was this successful. I haven't watched any of their videos but knowing what they're like, I have a pretty good idea. They are very... Hipster-esque. Their show is called Gone with The Wynns; they make videos about travelling.

So yeah, now I know part of how they have been making money this whole time. I just haven't paid attention for the last few years. It doesn't help that because they travel I haven't seen them in a while.

Picked up a Venerable Dreadnought for really cheap, and a second hand Black Templars upgrade pack.

When people openly mock individuals with mental disabilities. I'm not talking about calling something"retarded", I am talking about mocking and demeaning someone with a mental disability, who doesn't understand.

Tabletop games and role-playing in general is shit.
Well aren't you guys just a blast. I wouldn't be roleplaying anyway, just playing the tabletop game occasionally and painting models.

Never played it myself, but I love the lore.

Similar situation here. I like the lore, and while the fictional universe isn't my favorite (that would be Star Wars) I still like the 40k universe and would like to get into it so I have something else to occupy my time.

I don't want to be Star Warsed out and lose all excitement for the new material coming out, so I thought 40k might be a nice thing to slowly get into and serve as an additional hobby that I could also use to engage with others.

40k is shit
Pure, unadulterated heresy
It's just bad.
And it's stupid.

Elaborate. Personally, while a some of the lore is rather silly, I find the fictional universe as a whole to be pretty neat.

I'm also kind of tired of only having solitary hobbies. Sure, I enjoy collecting 1/6 scale Star Wars figures, but I wouldn't mind having a hobby that involved interacting with others but was still suited to my personal tastes.
ill come to texas to play it with you
I look forward to it. I suppose your faction will be Chaos, because they have soldiers called Noise Marines who make Vaporware.

played the base Warhammer at a friend's, him and his sons are HUGE army buffs and Modelling buffs and as such warhammer was a natual fit for them. they each have an entire army hand painted and built... they even made a giant table dedicated to the game with faux grass and hills built in.
That's awesome.

I still play it on occasion, hopefully they simplify the rules a tad soonish, they're getting a bit bloated. Also hoping the lore update for 8th will be actually good.

Going to make a Deathwatch army next I think.

How many Space Marine units would I need to be able to play games? As it stands I have the Tactical Squad that I bought but that's it.
About 1000pts should be enough

Best go down to your local gamestore and ask them about it, what you'll need, how often they play etc
Alright, thanks!

No. The expense puts me off.

It's a shame because otherwise it looks really fun.

I wanna do tabletop RPGs at some point. I've done it over skype before but I think doing it with a group of friends would be a lot more fun.

Looking on eBay I found some amazing deals that made the hobby seem much more affordable. I got the $50 tactical marine squad for $22.

Just curious. I bought a tactical marine squad on eBay (far less than the ridiculous GW prices). All of what you need to play is kind of overwhelming.

It looks slightly less horrendous than my initial impressions made of it, but even so it's just not what I wanted to see from DOW3 at all.

What were you hoping to see?
DOW1 with next gen graphics basically
That is fair. Personally, aside from the art style I am reasonably pleased by what has been shown so far. The return of base building and large armies is enough for me.

Here is an article detailing some of the Spess Mahreen units: http://www.pcgamer.com/dawn-of-war-3-hands-on-evaluating-the-emperors-finest-one-unit-at-a-time/?utm_content=bufferdc54f&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer_pcgamerfb

It looks like they have brought back the separate Devastator and Tactical squads from DoW II.

After seeing some gameplay, I am quite excited for this game. They have brought back base building and large armies, making the game feel much more like the first game and its expansions.

Here is twenty minutes of gameplay, sorry if you find the commentary annoying:

YouTube

The section in the video that I find interesting is the last third or so. We can see that they have indeed brought back large armies, with the end of this mission have a total unit cap of around 200.

I must say, while I am excited by the prospect of a return to the gameplay of the first DoW, I am not too keen in their new art style. It is too colorful and I find the intensity of the laser fire and all of the glowing stuff to be distracting. When the dreadnought engages in melee combat, there is a weird visual effect that occurs, which strikes me as cartoon-y and contrary to the style and atmosphere of 40k. When a dreadnought crushes an opponent with its hands, it shouldn't have a strange energy effect marking its attacks; it should be blunt, brutal. Gabriel Angelos' melee animations are too... "acrobatic", or elaborate. They remind me of the over-choreographed dance routines of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. In general this new art style reminds me of one of my least favorite genres; MOBA's. Hopefully the cartoon-y swishy-energy effects that marks units' attacks will be removable through mods.

Unfortunately, the only factions in the base game will be the Spess Maureens, space elves, and Orks. While I am disappointed by the lack of Chaos, the Imperial Guard, Necrons, or other factions, I am still looking forward to the release of the game. It's not surprising that we don't have some of the factions, as all of the DoW games have added more factions later through hefty expansions. However, previous titles have launched with four factions, whereas III has, well, III.

Still, I am quite excited for the game.

He's trash already just for being related to FDR
FDR was an American hero who nearly singlehandedly solved the Great Depression.

I know you're a troll, but this bait is too much.
Nah, he didn't. The New Deal helped, sure, but if you are going to thank someone for ending the depression thank WW2.
