Yeah, it sounds neat, but the execution was awful.
You can try it, the idea of its cool, SAO. But holy crap it falls down, so hard.
Could either of you explain how exactly it flops on the delivery?

As per the second season, Asuna basically stops being a character and instead becomes a plot device. No, that doesn't mean she's dead.
No character development
His edginess seems pretty forced.

From what I get of it, It falls because the main lead, that one kid... who looks like a faggot.
He becomes extremely over powered in the 'game' very easily, so many characters get shown and have small parts and then disappear. It's just him being better than all his friends.
The 'support characters' are complete numskulls that just seem so irrelevant to him, because he's so bloody powerful, he doesn't need any help. A girl, called Asuna, becomes less of a character every episode she's in. The idea still is great but the characters in it go and it juts falls apart.
