Spoiler as for the boss fight i just felt it didn't really expect you to master any sort of technique or skill to beat him... i felt like i had to "cheese" him to win rather than properly parry or aim for a week spot. i also found rudania's puzzles to be rather uninspired and aimless so that doesn't help, especially in comparison to naboris and the elephant.
Oh, you're talking about Fireblight Ganon? I thought you were talking about Calamity Ganon's fight, which actually does require quite a bit of skill.

goron power is fucking gay
Not sure if this is why you say that, but I definitely would have preferred the actions to be less passive, so that you could choose when to use them. Daruk's Protection and the charge attack ability activate whether I want to use it or not, often causing them to all be used up in the beginning of a big fight when I don't need them. You can turn them off in the inventory, but that just leads to more menu surfing. I didn't really like the boss fight either, but what issues do you have with it?

I watched them all recently and yeah they're a tad cheesy but I love them.
TLS was just bad though.
Why though? I believe you, I just don't remember it being bad except for the all the characters killed off.

Is it me or does Akalla have a really forlorn feel to it? It might just be that it was cloudy when I entrered the region but it's just... Idk.
Question about Ceremonial Trident Zora side quest What exactly are you supposed to do with the Trident at Veiled Falls? It says a poem or song or something but I'm not sure exactly what to do. Spoiler Do a jump attack to point the spear down into the glowing platform below. Don't do an attack from a paraglider, it won't work.

Haven't seen them in a while but I used to watch them with my family a lot when I was a kid so I remember them favorably due to nostalgia, but these movies are almost universally considered bad films. Why? The cast is really good, with interesting protagonists and Ian McKellen as a villain, so it can't be the characters (maybe with the exception of some cheesy ones, but it's a X-Men film...come on. I remember the action being pretty good and diverse. And who really cares about the plot of a comic book movie? So what's the issue? Is it just the bits of cheesy writing and characterization?

Thanks for the link, but I will eventually get the game. I don't want more spoiled for me than there already is.
The jump to Unreal 3 (or was it 4?) really makes this game not look good though
It's Frostbite 3, the same engine as DA:I which didn't really have any of these issues.

It's weird when YouTube personalities do this, as if these discussions are new or interesting, rather than every other Thursday on most online forums. The difference, of course, is that these people have huge followings and massive influence. JonTron's audience consists of teens to young adults, many of which look to him as a hero and wouldn't necessarily know better to not to take his worldview seriously. So naturally, when these super popular people engage in political discussions, it instantly matters a lot more.
I completely agree, especially with your suggestion to "stay in his lane".

Bit of spoilers about where BotW may fit on the timeline, not that it really matters: Spoiler It's confirmed that OoT, TP, and SS are connected to the game (directly, not in parallel stories). Princess Ruto (zora, OoT) is named in one of the zora history tablets and talks about her role in the game, but it's stated as taking place a very long time ago. The game likely takes place in the child era where Link goes back in time after OoT, goes to Termina, and eventually becomes the Hero's Shade. Ganon is again defeated in TP, and once more in Four Swords. Presumably, Hyrule rebuilt itself, the Sheikah clan developed technology (precursors to this are seen in some of TP's equipment and dungeons) and built the guardians and divine beasts. Ganon came back once more, was defeated, and 10,000 years later (with no games in between) reappeared at the start of BotW's story.

I think it's really great how Nintendo tried to give characters more distinguished personalities this time around, but I feel like anyone that's seen any shonen ever has met every one of these characters before. Zelda in particular (mostly because almost every bit of narrative revolves around her) is highly cliched. Protagonist with supposedly awesome powers by birthright struggles to discover them and ultimately saves the day by figuring out how to use them while facing the big villain, the emotional cues of failure and resentment towards peers with seemingly natural and undeserved talent, eventually recognizing their worth, etc. The four champions fit into very clear archetypes too.

At least Vah Ruta himself was fun to fight.
I'd imagine it's less fun if you refuse to utilize the gyroscopic aiming, but yeah.
I normally hate those types of controls, but it feels great in this game.

I personally haven't played yet, but What do ya think about this perspective on the brittle weapons?
So I watched this, and it's along the same lines I was talking about. But I still think it was poorly implemented. Is the best way to teach players to try new techniques really to just break their shit? Because I don't think so. I'm not a game developer so I don't know how to balance it, but it feels like they had all these fun techniques to fight with and in alpha testing discovered that spamming attack really is the easiest, quickest way to kill enemies and that there isn't really a need to use stealth or swing crates around, and they decreased weapon durability to counter it. Maybe make the durability more contextual, like blunt and wooden weapons are better for fighting armored or shielded enemies, and are more susceptible to being burned, and edged weapons are better for fighting unarmored enemies, etc. And the reality is that until much later in the game, players will be breaking weapons multiple times in big fights, causing them to stop combat and switch weapons. It's very stilted.

Vah Ruta (Zora) spoiler This is the only divine beast I've done so far, but I found the boss to be somewhat unintuitive after he raised the water.
Using the arrow the first time to hit his eye that he was protecting was obvious enough, and maybe I didn't notice, but I saw nothing that would have hinted at shooting it a second time to make him fall. I spent a good amount of time thinking that I needed to do something creative with my ice blocks, but no - it was a lot simpler than that.
Maybe I'm not in the right mindset, because I usually hoard my arrows and never feel expected to unload on them, but that fight was a little disappointing.
I believe you can use bombs, too, but I never really had any issues with the bosses. Shoot the eye, slash, repeat. Pretty disappointing that they're all basically the same.

Idk Ganon as a character just seems way less interesting than he used to be.
It didn't really help that Skyward Sword solidified Ganon as a literal embodiment of evil that was destined to reappear over and over, rather than how he was presented in OoT as a really evil character that managed to resurrect himself a few times.

Is there even any compelling data suggesting automation leads to a net job loss? Humanity has automated quite a bit throughout history and markets have always adapted to utilize the supply of workers.

would the game's shitty DLC practices affect your opinion on the game itself?
Nah, I'd review only what's in the base game. I don't like how the DLC is planned, but it's not what I paid for in the game (and neither is the amiibo content), and I can accept that. should the purpose of game reviews be to evaluate art, or to advise consumers?
it's hard to have both because they don't really mix well I'd say most reviews are 10% evaluating the artistic aspects of the game and 90% advising consumers. Maybe that's not how it should be. Personally, I'd rather someone examine the subjective aspects of a game at length and only very briefly discuss why it's worth purchasing. I can play the game and experience the mechanics very well on my own.

Can't watch it right now; can you summarize it? Early on the durability system is hard to handle, but once you stop getting attached to your weapons, the game becomes more manageable.

a very simplistic story (easily one of the weakest in the 3D iterations)
nah
unless you understand that retelling the same general story isn't necessarily a bad thing, and you simply don't like this particular telling as much as others
I have no problem with how Nintendo retells the same narrative repeatedly in many of their franchises. It just wasn't a compelling one, for me. I don't fault the game for it though; they try a lot of new narrative techniques like cutscenes and memories which I like. Open worlds with no sense of urgency tend to drive the story towards nihilism, and I prefer it to be more driven. Like Majora's Mask, it told many great, small stories.

Gonna respond to Jim Sterling's article, though I can't pull it up now due to the DDoS. Obviously he has no way of responding to these remarks, but I think a lot of people (including myself) have felt the same complaints he has.
First off, I'm really not a fan of comparing this to Dark Souls. The AI difficulty is very artificial; they level up as you progress, and difficulty is merely a function of their HP vs your HP; there are really only four types of enemies you'll be fighting (bokoblins, moblins, lizalfos, and lynels), and except for the latter, it's your basic turtle and slash strategy. Dark Souls has a very polished and detailed combat system; BotW does not. In the next paragraph, I explain how combat is not the real means of difficulty in the game.
He criticizes frequent inconveniences like constant rain or stamina loss while climbing, and here's where the real comparison to Dark Souls lies: the game is not open world in the sense that you can go anywhere whenever you want. Can't take a shortcut by climbing a huge sheer rock face due to rain/stamina? Maybe you shouldn't be taking that route without upgraded gear and stamina containers. Dark Souls does this by placing enemy and environmental hazards in your way. The game pretty successfully guides beginners to towns and stables using the roads, putting large mountains or rivers as barriers. I pushed through those barriers early on, and became very frustrated with the systems Jim mentions; I have a feeling he did the same, but didn't quite understand why they're there. Weapon durability is bad as it is and should be fixed, but it also forces players early on to take advantage of the environment and practice parrying, which is an absolutely crucial skill to have when fighting Ganon; you literally cannot beat Ganon without mastering it, and I think its importance was unfortunately understated. Yeah, the lack of any real top-tier or endgame weapons is disappointing, but the castle and other high-level areas are absolutely littered with royal gear. You'll want for nothing at the end of the game.
Another complaint he has is of the canon-breaking multitude of shrines. Is it really fair to complain that enemies are tough and stamina is necessary, and also criticize that there are 120 ways to get those necessary heart and stamina containers? Of any Zelda game, BotW is the easiest to get what are exactly tantamount to heart pieces. It practically hands them out. I have more heart containers than any Zelda has offered at full completion, and I'm only halfway through the shrines. And yeah, it's a bit silly to have separate little puzzle rooms littered around, but in my head they're perfectly canonical, having been made by the scattered Sheikah monks upon Ganon's return as a source of power for Link when he's revived.
A couple other complaints I attribute to Nintendo launching a relatively innovative new type of open world: stamina bar placement (which truly is ugly), frequent menu-hopping and freezing gameplay to access things, and a very simplistic story (easily one of the weakest in the 3D iterations). And yeah, the english-accented characters are voiced very badly.
I'm not sure what his rating scale is like, but a 7/10 seems a bit unfair. They've shattered traditional open world concepts and innovated in a series that had done almost nothing of the sort in two decades.

I'm worried about Aku
easily the best part of Samurai Jack but Mako died, and I don't know if Greg Baldwin can voice Aku and still have him be so awesome
Wasn't he Mako's understudy? Anyway, that episode was fantastic. I really love the animation style, and I'm glad they haven't changed it.
