After coming back and reading through this list, it's clear that the authors of it didn't put any effort into understanding the historical, cultural, or textual explanation for the entries. There are several comprehensive rebuttals to this particular list, and I'd be happy to go over specific alleged contradictions. 7683

Gaming / Re: Why has Nintendo been so retarded for the last 3 console generations?« on: November 21, 2014, 11:54:00 PM »
The mini-discs on the GameCube were awesome. They were a robust and long-term solution to piracy which was rampant for past generations of consoles. In addition, the size required data to be compressed and this meant loading times were significantly smaller than on PS2 or Xbox. It also meant the discs would snap less.

Serious / Re: Study: Religious Extremism is the #1 cause of terrorism« on: November 21, 2014, 09:24:37 PM »
I had an econ professor who used to say no war was ever fought over religion; every war in the history of mankind has been a war of land and resources. A religion isn't the motivation for war but rather the tie that binds a group of people together to wage said war, as they would for a country.

Serious / Re: Abortion and the father« on: November 21, 2014, 12:10:15 PM »Quote - Should both parents be consulted prior to an abortion?Yes. The fetus isn't part of the mother's body, nor is it her property. It's a medical decision in which the parents share legal guardianship. Quote - Should the consent of both parents be needed for an abortion?Yes, just like in any medical procedure for a child that requires power of attorney. Quote - If the consent of only one parent is needed, is the mother's desire for an abortion more important than the father's?No, and that's not without recognizing the inequality of physical responsibility in pregnancy. Quote - If a man wants the mother to have an abortion, but she doesn't, does he still have an ethical "duty" to the child? This should be decided outside of the abortion discussion, but I think both parents have an ethical duty towards their child from the beginning. Quote - If a man wants the mother to have an abortion, but she doesn't, should he be allowed to revoke any legal obligations to the child - such as paying child support?I can see a lot of people claiming they want an abortion, knowing the mother will say no, just to get out of it. I think what you're really asking is, 'should child support be optional?', to which I would say no. 7695

Yeah, you don't really play Far Cry for the plot, you play it to have a blast killing stuff. It's a fun game but don't expect Shakespeare-level storytelling.

I thought it was a fun setup to a really climactic ending. I dislike ending on the Arbiter and I think the jump into that horizontal lift should have been the ending, but I enjoy the crescendo of action that builds all the way up to the final line.

Hello, Turkey here.
I'd like to tell you why am I perfectly unqualified to be a Monitor and why I surpass all others on this site for the eligibility to not fulfill that responsibility: -Very inactive -I disagree with the moderation style and rules so far -I think volunteer work moving threads is below me -I can be kinda rude and I'd probably misrepresent the admins -I am a turkey, and thus cannot operate a computer As you can see I am clearly the poorest candidate for this job. In this way I stand out from my peers. I think you'll find that no other user on this site will not meet your needs quite as skillfully as I will. Thank you for taking the time to read my unapplication. I sincerely look forward to not working with you in the future. With neutral regards, T. H. Turkey 7701

The Flood / Going to D.C. tomorrow for a thing (mods are meddling)« on: November 17, 2014, 08:15:45 PM »
I'm from Arizona and right now it's about 60 degrees (we wear jackets for this). I'm going to D.C. for an interview tomorrow and the high is supposed to be 36 degrees. I don't even know what to do with that. I have a jacket, but I'm not sure I know what 36 feels like. And the low is 25. That's below the freezing temperature of water.
So what do I wear? Jeans and a jacket? An overcoat? A parka? This is in Serious because I also want you to consider the underlying themes in Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", available here: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/173253 Excuse me mods, I don't think you noticed, but this is a very serious topic. Please move it back to it's correct forum. 7708

Gaming / Problem with Games For Gold« on: November 17, 2014, 05:09:15 PM »
So I've got a gold account, but when I got to the menu on the dashboard all I have available are two arcade games, Volgarr and Chariot. No discounts or Red Faction. When I go to the GwG site, I don't have an option to download the free games, the store link just shows me the regular price.
Any idea what to do? |
