http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/07/26/539470211/trump-says-transgender-people-cant-serve-in-military"After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow ... Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming ... victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you"
Transgender people already serve in the military. It's not immediately clear how Trump intends to implement the ban, but the Pentagon announced Wednesday that it will defer enlistments by transgender applicants.
"Secretary [James] Mattis today approved a recommendation by the services to defer accessing transgender applicants into the military until Jan. 1, 2018," Chief Pentagon spokesperson Dana White said in a statement. "The services will review their accession plans and provide input on the impact to the readiness and lethality of our forces." All applications by transpeople to serve in the military will be deferred until 2018 while the military "reviews" the costs. This is a remarkably shameful thing he's done here, and while I do understand the stance of not wanting to not only cover the cost of transitioning but also paying the salary and training for a person that effectively can't deploy and is in a downed medical status for months at a time, it's the sudden reversal after significant efforts have been made to welcome trans servicemembers that is embarrassing here. I'm sure Charlie and Das can attest to the same, but as someone currently serving I can guarantee you the military is barely accepting of gays, and the openness towards transpeople was an important step towards normalizing the entire LGBT community.

tbh if you've seen one "AI ponders humanity" story you've seen them all. I can't think of any recent examples that stand out as exceptions. Maybe Ex Machina? But that was almost a parody of the entire concept. It's really only successful when used as a counterpoint to some other theme, and the anthropomorphic interpretation of artificial intelligence is almost as lowbrow as it gets in sci-fi.

All it leads to unnecessary shootings. Do you have any evidence of this?

Hey neat
Out of all these, I think I'll be most disappointed if Baccano! doesn't work for you. It's what made me think I could actually enjoy anime. Are you planning on dub, sub, or a mix of both?
hmm
everything i've watched thus far has been subbed
i normally prefer dubs, but sometimes they're not available, and i get to avoid people saying shit like, "you only hated it because you watched the shitty dub!!!" so now they can't say shit like that
I kinda hate most Japanese voice actors Baccano! has a solid dub. Maybe try one episode of both? I haven't tried the subs, but I imagine they're just fine.

I only recommend Your Name because it's not shit, which is kind of a sad standard to set for anime. It could've been an hour shorter and nothing would have been lost. The last act dragged on for way too long.
yeah, it really did
you also recommended baccano, so i will hold you PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE if i blow my brains out in the next few days

I'm attempting to change my password, so I go to the client site and enter my email. It says there's no account associated with that email. I try every other email I've used, and got the same. I looked through my PayPal account -- maybe it's paid through there. No charges on that, or any of my bank accounts. My account absolutely works -- I use it constantly. But I don't appear to have ever been charged for it, and I can't find the original email I got. I'm 90% sure I signed up for a free trial and have been using it ever since.
Any clue what's going on here? I find it hard to believe I've been using the service for free for almost a year; I never bothered to check the monthly fee because I thought it was like $5 a month.
nvm, it's through Amazon and my wife runs that email, so I've never seen it. Feel free to lock/delete/w/e

really don't like the new weapon system
Seriously. I couldn't see any point in differentiating energy and kinetic weapons from the demo. And shotguns and snipers are heavy weapons because they couldn't figure out how to balance them for the shitty pvp? C'mon.

This reads like a bad greentext. I thought this book was supposed to be passably good?

How time works in the book: Sending a raven from dragonstone to the wall? It arrives 400 pages later
In the show? Literally the next scene.

George really ought to just get a ghost writer to pump out the last two books and retire on the profits from GoT.

I don't understand what any of this means
Break it down
tl;dr the US has prohibited domestic companies from participating in boycotts of US allies led by foreign countries or agencies since the 70s. This bill amends that previous bill to include boycotts led by the UN, and includes some administrative stuff about voicing US opposition to such at UN meetings. Weirdly enough, there aren't actually any current UN boycotts against Israel, so this bill is preemptive at best, and pointless at worst.

I too, love it when foreign entities try to dictate my rights to freedom of speech.
This makes me think you just saw the title of the bill and stopped reading. This has nothing to do with your free speech.
If I own a company, it should be fully within my rights to refuse business with Israel.
This statement confirms that you didn't read past the title.

What's your major? I'd also focus a lot less on whether you *can* pay off your loans, and whether you'll be committed to doing so. Even with the most useless degree on the planet, you're still qualified for higher than entry-level positions after working for a year or two. You could be lower management in literally any field after some sort of introductory work period, making 40-50k, but would you be willing to take a job that isn't in your field -- and if you aren't, how much is your field worth?
If you are really passionate about a lesser-valued field, you could go to community college for two years then transfer your credits to an in-state college for the rest, minimizing your costs. You could work through college. You could live with family or friends to decrease rental costs. There's no simple answer to "should I get student loans". If you're driven enough to do the work it takes to pay off something you feel is worth the investment, then do it. If you're just going to school because you think that's what you're supposed to do, then don't. Get a trade, or work up from entry-level somewhere. Maybe join the military if you're adamant about getting the degree but don't really care what you do with it.

Didn't the man help the Vietnamese giving them intel when he was captured? Minor pieces of info mixed with lies. I doubt any Vietnam POW could say they gave up nothing. Claims that he did anything beyond that are entirely unsupported.

i was just gonna ask which to watch between FMA and FMA:B
FMA:B, and if you like it enough, you can watch FMA and pretend it's just filler.

I didn't realize you were doing movies. In that case, check out The Wind Rises. The dub is great, and it's one of my favorite movies. I wouldn't call this "safe" at all, despite being a Ghibli movie.
Also gotta include The Boy and the Beast. Tbh, I'd say just stop reviewing multi-series anime in general. The lack of budget and material accounts for 90% of your complaints about bad characters and animation. The only exception I have to that is FMA:B which really stands out.

Go to Goodwill or a local thrift store, look around the PCs for a large case, a 450W power supply, hard drives, and RAM.
Intel G4560 $80 Sapphire RX 460 $95 Compatible motherboard $50-60
Total: ~$250
It's not feasible to get a COTS desktop or parts that will play games for $200. If you scrounge thrift stores for miscellaneous parts, you can spend your budget on the motherboard, CPU, and GPU. If you have a desktop already, you likely have many of those cheap parts you can work with.
thanks for the good advice, once i get my license back i'llbe doing this
whats COTS?
and how do i check the specs of my current desktop
Commercial-off-the-shelf, or a pre-built computer you can buy at a store. Windows 8/10: Control panel > System & Security > System Or if you use a program like CCleaner (recommended), it'll show it in the tools sections.

Destiny 2's gameplay mechanics were rock-solid. Looks like they're focusing more on an actual story and endgame content other than repeating missions with sponge enemies, which is great.

there are millions of good people living on the streets right now, and a lot of them just die—meanwhile, some of the most morally repugnant people you could ever meet are billionaires, and they live out their whole lives as such
where's the karma there
You can't look at a person's current existence and draw a conclusion about the state of their karma. Karma encompasses all of their past and future existences. A homeless beggar living in squalor may be in that state because he was a morally repugnant billionaire previously. Of course, that's all metaphysical bullshit. No, karma isn't real and if it was, the deterministic nature of the universe would make it uniquely cruel relative to other systems of belief.

In ten years I can see a reasonable chance of a household income of $200k+, which I think I'd be pretty damn content with. I don't really have a desire to be wealthier than that.
That's a shit ton of money. What do you do?
It's nearly 2 million Sek (swedish currency)
Military aviation right now, wife's a nurse. 10 years down the line, both of us have master's degrees and I'm working for some defense contractor or flying commercial, she's doing management in some hospital, $200k is a solid goal.

Due to their melanin-recessive position, Europeans cannot spiritually connect to the life force of the Earth and the Sun Doesn't a higher level of melanin make a person more resistant to absorbing harmful light from the sun? Only the purest white Anglos and Aryans can truly connect the life force of the Sun.

>object
Yeah, the article falsely states they "teleported an object". They transported information. They """beamed""" a photon, which you do every time you make a phone call, turn on a light, use GPS, or anything involving light.
360
« on: July 13, 2017, 10:37:38 PM »
In reality, they didn't teleport any object at all and this is just a neat but relatively mundane example of using quantum entanglement to instantly send information.
Clickbait is bad.
