I think I've recommended every anime I've watched that I enjoyed. I even figured Gargantia was a long shot for you because of the fan service and slice of life-isms. I enjoyed how the story turned out, and thought it ended up being almost a satire of the Shonen/mecha tropes that the male protagonist (can't remember his name... 'L' something) seems to embody at the beginning. Could be wrong. It just caught me off guard as unusually high in animation and plot quality for anime.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (Production I.G, 2013, five episodes) Fuck me running. These are the kinds of shows that just piss me the fuck off and make me want to spit flames. Simply put, it's just the same old regurgitated fucking troped-up plot of every single one of my least favorite shows of all time rolled up into one horrific amalgam. Point me to the fastest way off this planet. 2/10

And Verb, I really don't agree that the MCU's primary source of tension comes from character death. I think that's the superhero genre's biggest problem, and comic books' biggest source of tedium. In the MCU, tension comes from the sociological, psychological, and physical consequences, rather than survival.
Tony Stark goes from being a naive war-profiteer to a jaded, paranoid sufferer of PTSD, while losing the trust of just about everyone he relied on. Captain America begins as an almost brainwashed super-patriot to becoming an actual traitor who constantly fights his best friends (both of whom have been manipulated by the government he trusted).
Thor is a [privileged] literal god who constantly get shown how fucking dumb and shortsighted he is, ultimately losing his entire family, home, and species (or..whatever asgardians are).
The entire 10 years of MCU has been a gradual, believable descent into the chaos and madness that was SHIELD being overrun by Hydra, the disbanding of the Avengers, and their defeat by Thanos. And I don't think any of these character deaths would have worked in any of the other movies. It's weird to see you ridicule shows like TWD and GoT as overly-reliant on main character deaths to drive the plot, and then say that the MCU does and/or should do the same thing, rather than be glad that it actually doesn't.
Also it's neat to see you enjoy the movie.

I feel like the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones mindset has really affected how people judge comic movies. Why do characters have to die for there to be stakes? It's not like the characters have remained static throughout the films.

Tbh I think the majority of the serious questions you asked are pretty easily answered
Spoiler My biggest complaint is that wiping out half the population wouldn't really solve much...the human population doubles in less than 100 years, so unless Thanos plans to snap his fingers every century (apparently not possible after the first time he did it), then his plan is childishly stupid. Not as dumb as an attempt to seduce the literal embodiment of death, but I think it undermines his character quite a bit.

And yeah, he's 'mad', but he was never portrayed as insane or even illogical
As for the sequel, I'm not too familiar with Thanos in the comics but I'm hoping he's no longer the villain. It seems like his goal is complete and the stones lost some of their power. Maybe they'll introduce some rival or larger conflict...who knows. I even suspected Scarlet Witch of becoming the villain at the end of infinity war.
