The Flood / How do I sell my fucking car?
« on: September 08, 2017, 06:49:57 PM »
I'm selling my cars before I go to Japan and nobody has responded except for typical spam calls. What the fuck? It's a great car (2014 Mazda 3), reasonably priced, etc. I got an appraisal at Carmax which was $1,500 the lowest price I'd take, so I'm really only interested in private sales.

Anyone sold a car before? What the fuck am I doing wrong?

I disagree with the speed at which you believe it's acceptable to complete Dark Souls.

Destiny 2 has a better Halo campaign than Halo 4 or 5.

That's setting a pretty low bar.

Yeah, naruto is really good for shonen, especially skipping the filler. Still haven't finished it though.

I watched the last fight between naruto and sausage and legit thought it could be a parody. Those two were literally flying around shooting laser beams out of a giant samurai and fox thing. Remember when the show was mostly about ninjas with knives and martial arts and a bit of goofy magic?

Yeah. I was watching it with my buddy and I paused the episode to explain that I missed the days of grounded somewhat realistic ninjutsu.

It's a lot more jarring if you don't watch all the follow up, because the show admittedly does ease us into it well.

Yeah, I'm sure it's the culmination of hundreds of episodes of development. I did like that after all that they basically recreated their original fight in that valley without all the magic stuff.

Gonna have to wait to pick this up after deployment, but the changes sound good so far. Any word whether we can carry over characters from console to PC?

Gaming / Re: When are microtransactions going to die off?
« on: September 04, 2017, 11:27:14 AM »
Not until gamers are willing to pay more as games become more technically complex and expensive, or at least increase with inflation. $60 ten years ago would be worth about $72 now, for example. The fact is that many big games these days are worth more than they're sold for, and subsequently have to be cut up and released as fragmented DLC with season passes and microtransactions picking up the slack.

Srs response:

Can you explain the difference between publicly disagreeing with a company's policies, as seen in the recent Google Memo thread, and speaking out against fellow cops?

Easily: The Law. If a cop has something to speak out against on another cop, it's about laws being broken.

Now are you seriously equating police silence in shootings to some fuckwit blasting a company policy? Seriously?

No

Not all of police "bullying" is illegal. Quite a bit of it is perfectly legal. So what is the difference between asking police officers to speak against legal practices that you or they might find unsavory, and asking a corporate pawn to do the same?

The Flood / Re: Female-centric Lord of the Flies movie planned
« on: August 30, 2017, 07:03:00 PM »
Lord of the Flies was originally a satirization of the common depiction of young boys in popular stories and the treatment of boys in British culture. If the movie continues to address relevant themes about depictions and treatment of women -- without being too on the nose, a la Ghostbusters -- it could be really interesting. But I doubt that'll be the case.

Gaming / Re: EDGE'S top 100 games list (2017 edition)
« on: August 30, 2017, 03:33:06 PM »
BOTW is a top ten game, IMO.

Problems:

MGS3 is still the best MG.
Dark Souls is a solid choice, but Bloodborne doesn't deserve to be here.
GTAIV is better than GTAV, and it's not the best GTA, either.
Destiny is on this list at number 36.
Arkham Knight < Arkham Origins <<<< Arkham City < Arkham Asylum.
Tetris isn't on this list.

Tetris is #7 broski

Tbh I'm not a fan of ranking games. Maybe by genre in specific years...there's just so many qualities to compare that makes it dumb. Like if I argued that BotW shouldn't be anywhere near #1 because its story, dungeons, and degradation mechanic were failures, how would I rate Tetris, which has exactly one mechanic, no story, etc.?

All I'd say is that from what I've played, all of these are fun and widely-appealing games.

This better be fanfiction, or next season is gonna be a fucking mess.
Spoiler
wait, so what happened to the NK? He bails from the battle of the Eyrie and then Euron suddenly becomes the main antagonist?
Spoiler
That confused me too, I just double checked it, the last thing it says he does is get off Viserion and try to get into the Eyrie with another White Walker. Whatever that means, then I guess he's killed doing that.
Also those summaries are awful, hope they aren't true.

This is probably just a rewrite of previous fake leaks that were based on legit S7 leaks that didn't include details about characters like Theon and Jaime. Shit like a dead Dany hanging from a wall in King's Landing, Brienne dying before validating Jaime's manliness, Varys being Azor Ahai...It's chock full of dumb shit.

At least it was better than last episode.
What exactly is so dangerous about the army of the undead? A hand full of exhausted men managed to hold off thousands of them so an army of thousands should be able to hold off the entire White Walker army without a problem. They don't even have to worry about their comrades turning into wights since they have to be touched by a White Walker in order to join their army.

I wouldn't be surprised if they retcon that by showing that WW's just have to be present or nearby to raise wights.

- Normal Dragon has orange flame, with some sort of pressure-furnace brewing in it's stomach (based on fire exploding out the dragon after getting javelin'd).

- Zombie dragon has a hotter blue flame, despite i) having a rupture in it's fire chamber/stomach and ii) will be decaying the whole time making shit like wings and chambers of FIRE useless.

Really when the zombie dragon tried to let rip on the wall, he should have fucking exploded or at the very least burnt himself to death.

The fact that zombies can walk and swing weapons without any muscle tissue should clue you into the notion that wights are powered by handwavium magic.

Are they really that normie catering that they had to have a braindead exposition scene about Jon's parentage?

What happened to the """all seeing""" Three Eyed Raven™

People are comparing him to google. He has access to all information, but has to actually look for it -- which still doesn't make sense given that he saw the tower of joy scene last season, and should've known about Jon lineage at the time. But really, I wouldn't expect non-book readers to even know who Rhaegar Targaryan or Lyanna Stark are, and they needed the exposition and lead-up.

Warpable bonfires are almost all covenant locations or boss rooms. They may also show up in the list even if you're at that specific bonfire, which is one way to check.

Boring and dumb. They did that betrayal by Cersei two seasons ago, Jaime gets butthurt and storms out at least once a season, R + L has been confirmed since the tower of joy scene, littlefinger hasn't been relevant since season 5...but hey, they're finally bringing in the golden company,
which is neat.

Single-player only is an option, but then it affects achievements. As far as multiplayer goes, they'd have to have a matchmaking system that only pairs KBM players together, which would blow.

Serious / Re: Google fired an engineer over his opinions.
« on: August 25, 2017, 11:22:54 PM »
He wasn't fired for criticizing the company; he was fired for publicly undermining the management of the company. That difference may be nuanced to you, but it's obvious to anyone that's worked in a hierarchical workplace, which is why it's difficult to explain. It's not about suppression of conflicting ideas or what you probably see as "thoughtcrime".

The principle of "praise in public, punish in private" applies up and down the ladder.

If the memo he wrote detailed an opinion that was more agreeable with the people that complained and those who decided to fire him, then I suspect that he wouldn't have been fired at all.

Publicly arguing with your superiors is inappropriate in any work setting, and the guy demonstrated his own idiocy by writing about debunked gender science.
Is it debunked? Can I get sources? I've seen multiple psychologists explain that his points on gender differences were based on legitimate studies.

I'm very open to seeing any studies that refute them.

Like many amateurs, he seems to have interpreted results from scientific papers to suit his opinions. But you're missing the point that it's universally frowned upon to disagree with management in a public forum like he did -- what he said doesn't matter at all.
