I think it all boils down to socio-economic standing, not necessarily race. It's tough for a black guy, brought up in the ghetto, to get out and make himself a new man. Same goes for backwoods southern hicks who live in trailer homes and make their own moonshine in the bathtub. It's [just as?] hard to get out of there, too. Poverty is an ugly cycle.

In the US and other western countries, being an atheist is only mildly unpopular. Being an atheist is other parts of the world will get you killed either by citizens or by the government.
Why this didn't stay in Serious, I don't know. This is a pretty serious topic. It takes some real balls to do something like that.
Being Christian in certain parts of the world would get you killed
In all of those parts of the world, being an atheist will get you killed just as quickly and brutally, if not more.
I don't think they really care, they just want to kill you. We don't need another Martyr-off, the Romans did that just fine.
