« on: April 22, 2015, 09:07:54 PM »
you spelled "is" as "seems" in the title

You will find that many of the truths we cling to, depend greatly on our own point of view.

752
Caring about Anakin's seduction is, in my opinion, a nitpick, and something that can be overlooked very easily.
its the single most important plot point of the entire series! it should be harshly criticized for being poorly thought-out.

If you hate the movie and the prequel era so much, why bitch about it online? Why put all this time and effort into something that you dislike? Wouldn't you just ignore it? It makes no sense logically. Unless...you secretly love the prequels, don't yah Squidward?

753
anyone with half a brain could pick that out and say "uhhhh you what now?" but nope. not anakin.
Do you realize how easy that is to say as an audience member?

Seems like you've been watching too much Mr. Plinkett.
So, you're saying that if you were in the position you wouldn't find it at all incredibly odd or suspicious that the Supreme Chancellor starts telling you some ancient Sith mythology that's relevant to a problem you're dealing with when you just came by to watch the opera with him?
Yes. It's clearly spelled out for you that the Chancelor and Anakin have had a long standing friendship bordering on homoerotic.

i rest my case.

I'm not defending the prequels. It's all Star Wars, it's all one story.

Gaming / Why Star Wars: Battlefront seems limited
« on: April 22, 2015, 08:48:47 PM »
Spoiler

We're in a time where features from previous games are going to start getting cut from sequels. Especially when you look at games with a time gap like Star Wars: Battlefront. Studios aren't doing this because 'fuck customers' and they're not doing this because 'money grubbing DLC mongers.' They're doing this because a game has a budget, and they can only fit so many things into that budget.

So why are features being cut? Because the cost of producing content in general is ballooning. Look at some of the material that has come out so far for Battlefront. That blaster pistol probably has more detail in it than all the character models in Battlefront 2 put together. A single character model, weapons included, might have as much detail as half a battlefront 2 map. They've got to pay people to do that, and the demand for detail is increasing much quicker than increases in the productivity of art creation tools.

You used to be able to have a character artist that knocked out all of the character models in a game. Now you need an entire team of character artists just to work on some of the more important characters. This translates into dollars, lots and lots of dollars. And that's just art, the same extends to programming and content scripting as well. Everything is way more complex than it used to be. This object has to behave differently depending on what caliber of bullet struck it. We need to make sure the physics simulation on these plants behaves reasonably when they get blown across the map by a rocket. This is all stuff that didn't used to matter at all, but now is taken for granted and expected in modern games.

So where it used to be that 50 million dollars would get you so much content with so many game modes, that now has been cut down dramatically. The cost of each individual bit of content has skyrocketed to the point where the same amount of money won't get you remotely as far. Features that are less popular are going to be hacked off, and maybe added back on as DLC, because DLC expands the budget and lets these features pay for themselves.

Of course, this doesn't justify the lack of features. The publishers and developers going into this should have known it was going to be a large budget game, that would more than likely easily make back the costs if done correctly. Hell, I'm sure most of us would appreciate the game being delayed if that meant more content upon release. Of course, they don't want to come out and say this, so instead they'll say "Well, it was a design choice to limit play space", which is a crock of shit, and they know it.

TL;DR: Games are getting more compact and focused because the amount of money it costs to produce content is growing faster than the amount of revenue generated by any given game. If you want content, it has to be paid for somehow. DLC is likely to be that somehow.

Poor Anakin...
Don't refer to him by his bitch name.

Would Darth Vader technically be his bitch name though?
The Anakin we saw was a whiny, selfish, brooding, asshole. Yeah he was better in TCW but that's not enough tonerase the black mark of the Prequels.

Darth Vader, on the other hand, was a badass motherfucker.

They're the same person. And Vader is just as whiny, selfish, and brooding. The difference being he can actually do something about it now (like killing people) instead of rubbing the Jedi Council's shaft.
the biggest difference between Prequels Anakin and Original Trilogy Anakin is that Vader is calculating, intelligent, shrewd, and good at reading people. Prequels Anakin is a gullible idiot who happens to be a savant when it comes to military stratagem. Prequels Anakin isn't the kind of guy who turns into Vader. You don't just magically grow a working brain by becoming a Sith.

Sounds like you need to pay attention to story then.
got any specific examples or are you just spewing bullshit in the face of the truth?

It all stems from the environment Anakin grew up in, Rewatch the prequels a Clone Wars and actually pay attention to details.
that explains his moodiness, but not the sudden transformation from universe's dumbest jedi to authoritarian genius. nothing can explain that except for shitty writing.

>Implying all Jedi aren't mentally retarded.

Again, rewatch and pay attention to the Jedi order.
yeah, theyre all dumb as rocks. so tell me, how in the flying fuck did anakin magically become smart? i can tell you right now that palpatine isnt responsible.

its a shitty narrative. lucas didnt think it through. stop white knighting the prequels.

When did Anakin become smart? Vader is just as dumb in the movies, and we've barely seen any of his thought process in the new comics besides "lol lets build an army". So unless you're using non canon material to show Vader's intelligence, I don't see it.

Anakin is Palpatine's lapdog, and is ignorant beyond belief, even after he's in the suit. The ONLY time he opens up a bit is when he finds out Luke is his son. And even then, he has to wait until his son is almost killed to actually do something.

He became a sign of terror when he went in the suit, but he didn't become smart.

And I'm not white knighting the prequels, I'm defending the Star Wars narrative as a whole. Sorry that you don't enjoy a section of it to actually care about it.

Vader isn't an idiot. You say that he isn't smart in canon material, but I'd say his actions in the Darth Vader comics have shown him to be quite cunning and intelligent.

Then I can say the same for how he behaves during The Clone Wars. His intelligence level does not change.
yeah but Lucas isn't responsible for anakin's character development in that series. id prefer to keep this within the realm of things that Lucas is directly responsible for- the 6 movies. there is no narrative consistency between the prequel anakin and vader in the movies. the clone wars helps to remedy the character a bit, but movie anakin is a fucking moron, no way around it. vader is much much more intelligent. that doesnt make any sense. lucas is a hack.

Okay, are you stupid or misinformed? Lucas was DIRECTLY involved with the story and character development of EVERY Clone Wars episode that has aired thus far. The Clone Wars is just as much directly responsible for him as the main 6 movies. Hence why it was left canon during the EU wipe.
lucas has creator credits for the clone wars because he invented star wars. he has a minor writing credit, but he wasnt involved in production or direction. doesnt count.

Jesus Christ, okay I'm done talking with you. You obviously have no idea how Lucas worked on The Clone Wars, making this discussion a mute point. Do yourself a favor, and actually see all the work, time, and effort Lucas has put into making the show. Yes, others worked on the show, but Lucas had the penultimate authority over what was written and created during the show's run time, despite what the credits show. Just look at any interview or behind the scene documentary of the show's producer, Dave Filoni.

And even if Lucas had no role in The Clone Wars, what does it matter? It's still canon. It's on the same level as the movies, despite your personal opinion on the matter.

It would seem this is from the local co-op missions that Dice have talked about, showcasing both the 3rd and 1st person perspectives. It looks stunning-even at low-res and decidedly un-Battlefield, which is surprising.

Yeah, but as much as DICE and EA cock up Battlefield games are always great fun to play.

For a "Megathread" this  is severely lacking in content.

Define lack of content. On my end, as in the OP is lacking? Or there aren't too many replies? Because the latter is to be expected, seeing as there are still a few ongoing SW threads other than this one. When those die down, this thread will see more activity.

"There are some things that are worse than death" -The Inqusitor

That quote has stuck with me, one of the few I can remember form the show actually. I'm sure it has some deeper meaning and foreshadowing. Or maybe he meant upsetting Palaptine is worse than death.

Also Rebels kept me more interested than The Clone Wars. I think I barely finished season 2 on Netlflix. There are just so many episodes that are nothing more than "trade negotiations".

I see where you come from. I like the political stuff though. Not every part of a war is fought on the battlefield. It's especially funny though to see how Lucas uses the Star Wars Senate to reflect his views on The War on Terror. As he said in a commentary once, "Bush is Vader and Chaney is the Emperor".
Yeah, I just remember one episode I saw recently where Jar Jar and Bail Organa went to the homeland of the Toydarians. It was godawful.

Yeah, are you watching in Chronological order though? Because that should've been the 4th episode or so that you saw ( gets it out of the way early at least).

Yeah, on Netflix. They must have the order screwed up. Maybe I should just skip season 3, because I know Maul returns in 4. I just want to see Clones being badass too.
No, don't.

If you hate political stuff, skip HALF of season 3. Literally, all that happens is Padme tries to get assassinated (again), pointless Mandalore politics ( there was a corrupt leader) and Ahsoka met Lux Bonteri, who is a Seperatist senator (you meet him again in Season 4)

Skip up to Season 3 Episode 12. Then the Maul plot starts to form, and you get some mystical Chosen one shit, and some badass clone stuff, which then become important for the Bad Batch Arc in Season 7 that will be released later.

EDIT: Make sure you watch the first 2 episodes of Season 3 though, those are clone centric.

Not really. Looks more like a smuggler, especially since she's on a scrap yard planet with a crash Star Destroyer, which is perfect for looting.
