It's just people are using the cookie cutter version of zombies. Also, depictions of zombies nowadays are too casualized. It's not how it used to be, where zombies resembled bloated corpses, more macabre depictions basically.
If people were more creative and made zombies into something fresh and compelling......for example, a young woman gives birth, but throws away the baby into a dumpster......the infant is reanimated from a parasitic entity, the parasite grows so large that the ever weeping, silent infant is but a small part of a monstrosity that eventually adds the mother to it's body, and so on and so forth until many people become a part of the parasite.
I'm all for giving aliens a greater role in horror movies. There's so much room for expansion.

6. Main character sacrifices his/her self in the end to save a friend or lover.

I've never watched the anime tbh, just read the manga (and it's finally being released regularly again. Praise Griffith!)
The anime is well worth seeing, even if you know what's going to happen. Watching the Eclipse through the anime or an OVA is spectacularly haunting.
