lel rich billionaires...this is why communism wouldn't be such a bad thing. With that much you don't even know what do with it. All I want is 75K a year.
...

You realize that money doesn't exist in a purely communist society, right?

And how do you expect Congress to do anything when Obama keeps passing E.Os and not playing ball with them?
It's because Congress is so fucking shitty that Obama is essentially backed into a corner.

It's the fucking Republicans, man.
Of course it is.  Republicans and Obama have completely different views on how things should be done.  It's naive to think that either will somehow come together to get something done.

Republicans produce bills that will "fix" the problems, but because Democrats don't want to give the impression that they don't stand with Obama on key issues, they strike down any Republican attempts at reform.

Not necessarily saying that the Republican reforms are desirable by any stretch, but that's the reality of the situation.

Fucking christ.
Why is Ben Bernanke your profile pic?
I like to switch up my profile picture every now and again to public figures I (at least moderately) admire.
So you (moderately) admire incompetents?

The Bernanke Doctrine is trash.  If anything, it dug the 2008 recession even deeper.

This current trend of more and more courts ruling on marriage equality is great and all, but stuff like this shows that the US still has a long way to go.
More and more people are starting to adopt a "Who gives a fuck?" attitude toward gay marriage.  Basically, "It doesn't affect me directly in any way, shape or form, so who am I to oppose it?"  It's really quite encouraging.

Here's a video of people's reactions around where I live.  Lexington County is where all of the upper-middle class conservatives in the Midlands live (including my family).

President Obama said his administration will grant “deferred action” to two groups – parents of United States citizens or legal permanent residents who have been in the country for five years, and young people who were brought into the country illegally as of 2010.
I don't have a problem with this.

Part of me wants to agree with Rand Paul's point that it's not the place of the executive branch to be making sweeping reforms like this, but after nothing but gridlock on the issue for the past decade, I'm kind of relieved to see that the plan leans toward a "keep the good, deport the bad" policy.

Even after this reform our immigration system will still be a huge mess.

Your feelings on String theory. Will it ever be Popper falsifiable or should string theorists just let it go?
I believe string theory to be the best explanation for our universe (and possibly other universes).  The only qualm is that a lot of popular string theory hinges on the Higgs boson, which (in my opinion) has yet to be found.  The current smallest particle lies between the thresholds of super-symmetry and instability, so in that regard we're kind of at a dead end until more testing can be done next year.

How do you feel about our ability to gain a *real foothold in outer space and turn our species into a solar system spanning one and what do you feel are the most important technological developments to make that happen.
I'm not a huge fan of Halo-like human colonization of other planets.  What I'd like to see is a way for us to extract resources from extraterrestrial bodies and use those resources to advance life here on Earth.

Do you think the private sector can completely satisfy our "needs" for scientific research at every level, without some sort of disequilibrium entering the situation if the government were to stop funding scientific research or give grants to universities?
I do.  There are already independent foundations funding scientific exhibitions.  And honestly I think that an institution run by scientists would have a better idea about what scientists need than policymakers.

Also, do you think there's an appropriate monetary regime for the central bank while we have one? Or do you view every option as equally bad, and simply think we should strive towards free banking ASAP?
We should strive toward free banking, but while there is a central bank it'd be idiotic to say that that bank shouldn't have a monetary regime.  I just believe that it does more harm than good, and that markets should dictate the value of currency, not government.

It is.  My primary complaint is that you don't finish the game as Chief.  I bet it would have remedied the hate if there was one final mission aboard the Dreadnought where you fight through to an archive of some sort, meet the "sliver" of 032 Mendicant Bias, and get some information about the Ark and the ship itself.

He's the politician that got me into libertarianism.  I disagree with him on a ton of shit, but I respect that he wouldn't compromise on his beliefs the vast majority of the time (look at his voting record).

I think voting should be a legal obligation, although I don't believe one is ethically obligated to consent to the government of a party when they completely object to the system or its participants.
You'd end up having people that know literally nothing about the issues voting for the men and women that would lead society.  I don't know how you can think that is a good idea.

Strongly disagreed. This should only apply to cases where apparent danger exists to you and/or other persons.
lol

So if a guy breaks through your front door he's most likely there to take a shit or borrow a cup of sugar?

All the opinions here are lacking the whole picture, and instead tackle the view from some really convenient angles whilst ignoring all the variables that come into play with such a huge issue. Doesn't really encourage me from investing time to realistically enter into the argument.
You're implying that opinions can't be changed.

Piracy is a relatively new thing to me.  I've only pirated two games so far (Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Assassin's Creed Unity).  I started to torrent Far Cry 4 but stopped because I decided I'd wait for it to be in a Steam sale and buy it then.  I'm open to different points of view, and I'm sure others here are as well.

I'm really split on guns to be honest.

You hear and read stuff where people kill their own family members and themselves, school shootings and all that. Then you see stories of people protecting others and themselves from horrific crimes that would have taken place had they not been armed. Like a guy that grabbed his AK and shot at the grass on his lawn because there were 30 MS13 gang members on his lawn threatening to rape his wife and daughters and kill him.

I don't know. I really don't know what side to pick, so to speak. Both have compelling arguments.
The gun debate is less about guns and more about the extent to which people can take measures to protect themselves and their families.  It's alright to be "pro-gun" and not be a "muh freedoms" kind of guy or an Alex Jones listener.

Just thought of an analogy:

Citizenship is your PC game.  Border patrol, visas, and the immigration process are like DRM.

Coyotes are just like torrents!  And illegal immigrants are the leechers (who then turn into seeders once they are employed as farmers).

Are immigrants really taking REAL jobs? They aren't being hired as accountants or customer service reps. They're picking berries and shit.
They're being hired as construction workers, lawn care workers, etc

Other people aren't being hired as accountants or customer service reps. either. Not like there's an endless supply of these jobs
Then the people in construction and lawn care should lower their costs in order to compete with illegal immigrants.
The easiest way to lower costs would be to lower wages, but the federal minimum wage law prevents that.

Illegals have the advantage in these fields because they can freely negotiate their wage with their employer.
Spoiler
Don't interpret this as me saying that people in construction and lawn care are making too much money.
