Serious / Re: Thoughts on This Statement
« on: January 13, 2015, 01:50:22 PM »
The statement makes sense.  You can't choose who (or what) you're attracted to, but you can choose whether or not to be sexually active.

Being gay =/= sexually active
Misread the quote.  What I said still stands, though.

In that case, I don't get what they mean by "being gay".  Am I making a lifestyle choice by " being straight"?

If by "getting it for free," you mean stealing, then not really. But call it what it IS.
You can't really steal music.  Taking credit for another artist's work (plagiarism) is one thing, but to say that taking sounds from one environment and playing them in another (which is what ripping/torrenting a song is) is stealing is ludicrous.

GTA V comes out on the 27th for PC.  I'm getting that because modsmodsmods.  I might pick up Dying Light if when it goes on sale.

I'd like to see more damage effects on localized areas of the body and have that change enemy behavior, like limping or inability to use arms for striking.
So...like Fallout?

I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome (a form of high-functioning autism) when I was 16.  When I see people use "autism" in a derogatory manner it just-...

Sorry, I can't.  I honestly don't give a fuck.

Edit:  To clarify I DO have Asperger's.  There was a time just a few years ago where Aspies were the "in" thing (there was even an episode of South Park about it).  I was fine then and I'm fine now.

The Flood / Re: Is a trypophobia thread allowed on these forums?
« on: January 11, 2015, 05:52:28 PM »
I think some research on trypophobia found that humans biologically see the formations as dangerous, and the shivers we get are warnings from our bodies to stay away.

Think about it:  Ant hills, wasp nests, beehives, all of these things have the same types of patterns, and all of them are things you generally want to avoid.

it's silly to expect someone to do exactly what they have a degree in for their whole life. People change and maybe they tire of the field they're in. Not everyone works in such a specialized field that they need a degree in exactly that.
That's one of my biggest issues with tertiary education currently.  I'm a CIS major (hue) with a minor in business, and I'm having to take a history class, multiple science classes, and other electives to get my degree.  The core classes relevant to my degree could be completed in three years (two and a half if you count summer school).  Sure, I would probably take Music Theory II anyway, because I'm a musician, and foreign language might be useful in the technology sector, but I don't understand why they're required for a degree that's there to attest to my knowledge in computer information systems and business.

idk, I'm just kind of jaded because I have to go to uni on a Saturday this semester for U.S. History 112. >_>

Serious / Re: Could companies sponsor a school and/or district?
« on: January 10, 2015, 09:40:50 PM »
Would the times between classes be commercial breaks?
No, but the school uniform would be khakis and a polo with the company logo.

I kid.

It'd be nice if companies were more altruistic and didn't require some sort of tangible benefit from sponsorship, and instead just want to better the community that their employees and customers live and work in.

But they don't.
The guy who owns the local Ford, Chevy and Toyota dealerships holds a contest every year to win a free car.  Each student with perfect attendance gets their name pulled from a hat (or bucket or w/e).  The car from 2013 was a brand new Ford Mustang Convertible.  I didn't know the girl who won (she was an IB student).

What I'm getting at is that there are many local businesses and franchise owners that are willing to do things to help out local schools.  So what if it takes putting a little logo on a t-shirt?  We already have that with every other facet of our lives (seriously, logos are everywhere).

If anything, four years of Mittens Romnibus would offer some semblance of stability, since nothing would really change policy-wise.

Point is, if people don't intelligently choose a degree, they shouldn't be surprised when they're jobless in the future. And the government shouldn't be helping out people who can't bother to do that.
This is about people who can't afford to go to school in the first place.
And if people go to school and get a useless degree, then they're going to be back where they started, minus the two years they could've spent moving up in a company or acquiring experience.
