Socially, to an extent.  But I wouldn't really say "oppressed", just fucked with.

I mean, I'm all for more freedoms, but Europoors seem pretty content with not being able to own handguns.  I don't see how (re)introducing them would benefit European society.

A more logical first step would be to make it easier to obtain shotguns and hunting rifles for personal defense and sport.

I enjoyed Black Gold (BF2) because the MEC could keep the Americans off the oil rig if they were organized, but if the Americans managed to capture one point then the odds shifted in their favor, because now the MEC has to pick classes other than anti-vehicular.

That said I've always enjoyed asymmetrical maps more than symmetrical ones, because I get a completely different experience depending on which team I'm on.

Find the derivative:

f(x)=5^x + 4x³ − 20x² − 3x + 10

x5^(x-1)+12x^2-40x-3+1
=x5^(x-1)+12x^2-40x-2

I'm not exactly clear on deriving or good at math, but I think this is correct
Extremely close.
Spoiler
f'(x)= ln(5ˣ) + 12x² − 40x − 3

142/200 (Aspie)

Not surprised.  I was diagnosed when I was 16.  When I took the test back then I was ~180/200.  In the past four years I've worked to improve my social interactions (studied body language, etc.) and it looks like my score reflects that.

Gaming / Re: So why are we trying to stop Alduin in Sklyrim?
« on: February 05, 2015, 02:35:18 PM »
But the gameplay is more important here. Every game tries to create tension with the writing (ie: a "time limit" that doesn't actually exist), and the tension goes out the window once the gameplay doesn't hold up. Writing alone can only do so much, and is not the be-all and end-all of drama.

Skyrim's a shallow 'role-playing game' that doesn't bother to do justice to the writing >.>
I blame a lot of Skyrim's shortcomings on the fact that it was released on hardware that, at the time, was already six years old.  Sure that doesn't excuse Bethesda's bad writing, but I imagine that's the reason why we didn't have a civil war questline where you actually invade cities and have the chance to lose control of cities if you failed to defend them (ultimately resulting in you losing the entire war).  In fact, the mod that lets you do that is based on existing scripts and quests that were never used.  There's even dialogue files in the base game files for each city invasion.  The 360 and PS3 can't pull off large-scale battles or extremely complex enemy AI (at least not the battles and AI rendered in the extremely script-heavy Creation engine).

Time constraints and deadlines also played a part, I imagine.

Well, as long as it was a murder-suicide at least the situation didn't have any excessive risk.
That's what I was thinking.  Obviously the shooter went in there with a purpose, and wasn't just trying to pull off a shooting VA Tech style.

Serious / There was a shooting at my university...
« on: February 05, 2015, 01:59:53 PM »
Link to local news article.  (This happened about 90 minutes ago so the article is being updated constantly.)

Luckily I didn't have classes today, and my dad had come back from his lunch break before the shooting started (he works at the Attorney General's office just a block away from the ASPH).  Right now all I know is that two people were shot and killed (including the shooter), and it appears to be a murder-suicide.

The University of South Carolina's campus ensconces half of the city of Columbia, which means that during the day you have students meandering throughout downtown Columbia going from their dorms to classrooms to restaurants, etc.  The buildings are open to the public during daytime hours (I believe 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.), so anyone can walk in or out without hindrance.

I'm curious to know if the victim/shooter was a student, staff member or professor.  I imagine details will be released sometime tonight or tomorrow.

This is kind of scary because my university hasn't had any daytime shootings in recent history.  Sure, there have been robberies outside some of the dorms on the outskirts of campus at two or three in the morning, but nothing like this.

« on: February 04, 2015, 09:04:29 AM »
I'm enjoying it.  Night time gets a little 2spooky4me, but overall I'm having a lot of fun.  The parkour mechanics don't feel as streamlined as Mirror's Edge, but I hear that that changes as you level up your agility skill (you have to have an agility of 33 to cross a plank into the main tower).

As far as performance goes, I'm getting a solid 60 fps on my rig.  Wasn't expecting it to perform so well.

Pro tip:  Turn view distance all the way down if you're on PC.  You get a much better framerate and the visual hit is minimal.

when they do far less than them.

Please tell me more about your substantial experience in working as a chief executive of a large company.
Sure not everybody knows how to run a business but should they still be making much much more than what the regulars workers are making when they do more and work harder? Sure those people are what's running the company business but your workers are the ones who are doing things to make you money and they are the ones who are the reason why you have a company.
It's easier to replace a desk worker than a CEO.  CEO pay reflects that.
