Gonna have to go with Dustin on this one.
OT:
Obviously solitary confinement is bad.

That's not very encouraging. No offense.

I fucking do, guy. There's no point in quoting someone if the message I'm responding to is RIGHT ABOVE my own.
You don't get notified, that's it. It's not like you NEED to see the response right away. Or at all.

Darn.
Did you spend your morning arguing with people over basic fucking ethics and decency for two or three hours? You'd be edgy, too.
Oh look, I used the word "edgy" properly. Way to go me.

Which is why I used it.

I hate all drivers. I hate driving.

I don't.
I find the ones who are "proud" of being fat irritating, though.
I respect a person who can own up to their flaws.

Its dead. The slab of meat is as inanimate as a banana. Again: YOUR POINT?

Killing other intelligent beings isn't remotely the same as killing dumb animals that exist for the sole reason to be eaten. Humans are worth no more or less than animals. You have no proof that animals exist solely to be eaten. That's a religious notion. You might as well be a religious fuck.

Its life is still gone though. We can't bring it back. It doesn't feel anything anymore. And we STILL had no right to take it away. What's your fucking point?

Says who? Fine. Let's all kill each other, because BritishLemon doesn't see a reason not to. Do you want to die? No? Then you have no right to take it away from someone or something else that doesn't want it taken away.

Yeah, but it doesn't feel anymore. Its life is gone. We had no right to take it away.

A slab of meat doesn't feel, either. It used to. Did you know that when things die, they used to be alive? Did you know that? A banana has never felt. It has NEVER been alive.

All right. I probably won't though. If so, oh well. You disgust me. To the core. But at least you are consistent with your snake oil.

I don't have a depenency for bananas. I should stop eating then. Shitcunt comparison. Bananas don't feel, so there's no impetus not to eat them.

No, because I enjoy it. And because the option is there. So I'm taking advantage of that. Then I hope you get eaten.

Is there even a cap of intelligence? Being the most "morally right person" is a good sign.

« on: January 11, 2015, 08:37:15 AM »
A lighter term should have been used, because addiction usually implies to most people that you have a severe dependency on it. I don't have a dependency for meat, at all. Then don't eat it.

You can be the most morally right person in existence, but that wouldn't mean you're intelligent. You really can't, though. Isn't it funny how the most "morally right person" hasn't been born yet? Especially when the most intelligent person hasn't been born yet either.

There only reluctant because saying plants feel pain as a scientist is like saying you saw an alien mothership as a pilot. The feds will blacklist you from employment in the field. That sounds pretty bogus to me, sorry.
Except the FAA actually does that to pilots.
Well, that's just unnecessary. But it's not that difficult for a scientist to show his work, is it? If they're afraid of getting "blacklisted"--which, I don't even see why they would be--then that just means they have no balls. No respect for the field that they work in.

Yeah, I would want some for sure, but I wouldn't go into a withdrawal or something. Because you're taking the word "addiction" way too fucking literally. Which is annoying and pedantic as fuck.

"despite adverse consequences"
"interferes with ordinary life responsibilities"
Guys I can't go to work today I'm going through meat withdraw Adverse consequences could be ANYTHING. Like not being able to give it up for a good cause. The second quote is not even in the fucking article.

morals and intelligence aren't the same thing I obviously disagree. If you're not "moral", then no, you're not intelligent. Intelligence begets a sense "morality".

Oh, and I'm not addicted to meat, either. If I was in a situation where I was deprived of meat with no reliable way to get it, I would simply seek alternatives like fruit, nuts and vegetables. You would crave it, though. You would hunger for it. If even for a fleeting moment. Don't even try to deny it.

Yes, but there is nothing that can really be done to solve this problem entirely. The majority of people (including me) will never give up meat.
We can, however, treat the problem by making sure they don't suffer when they die. You can eat meat and still be an advocate for the philosophy. We can teach future generations not to eat meat. You realize that, right? Just because you're too weak-willed to stop doesn't mean we have to instill the notion in future generations.

Yes, this too. Dietary choice has ABSOLUTELY NO relation to intelligence. Look at the extreme vegans and vegetarians, the eco-terrorists and the like. I'm just saying, obviously, if you're a vegan, you're basically making the statement that "killing sentient creatures is always wrong unless you have express permission to do so." Sounds like an intelligent proposition to me.

And as I said, there are ways to make their deaths painless and suffering-free. You still don't have the right to kill them at all. If cows could say, "Yes, you may eat me," I'd be okay with you killing and eating that particular cow. If it meant and understood what it was saying.

No.
yes
So what about pain? Do plants feel? Pollan says they do respond to anesthetics. "You can put a plant out with a human anesthetic. ... And not only that, plants produce their own compounds that are anesthetic to us." But scientists are reluctant to go as far as to say they are responding to pain. Das, come on. You're better than this.
