It's a technical thing, you use an asterisk in a google search after a word like...
Searching timber* would give you results like timberwood, timberwolf, etc
So it was meant to be an all encompassing term for anything and everything "gender non-conforming" but it just didn't work out because people bitched and argued about it into oblivion and back. is anyone honestly gonna confuse "transfolk" with people who support whatever the fuck "transhumanism" is, though i never even heard of that shit until today

I've usually seen "trap" refer to crossdressers. Transwomen are often erroneously referred to as traps, but that doesn't make them the same thing. Crossdressers are not the same thing as Trans*people, as many feel no desire to live as or be the other sex (as a person who is transgender does) and is merely a sexual fetish. i'm with you, but what is the function of the asterisk there in "trans*people" because if it functions how i think it does, i think "transpeople" or "transfolk" works just fine
