Is their some kind of limit on how many worms can join together or could they feasibly form a large central intelligence like a gravemind to coordinate them? Is there ways for individual colonies to connect and perhaps share memories directly for communication?

Recorded history accounts for less than 3% of human existence. Isn't that just mind boggling?

Because she was arrested and will be going to prison. Not much to be mad about when justice has been done.

No, you misunderstand.

He wanted them to get worse.

He also wanted to build a giant fence around the Midwest and airdrop criminals into it.

No, care about the corruption that matters. Prioritize. The US Chamber of Commerce regularly pushes for lax rules about offshoring US jobs to China, India and Thailand. They have one of the largest lobbying budgets in the world. Every politician that takes their money is responsible for every unemployed person that could be building cars, computers, or anything else that should be manufactured here. When your friends graduate from where ever with a CompSci degree, why they have to compete with a guy in India willing to write that same code for $15 an hour!

THAT'S what you should keep your eye on. This is peanuts on the corruption scale.

I never got the "we should ignore bad things because there are worse things" argument, it's not like an entire society can't multitask.

The Fine Young Capitalists were able to recover from their hack and reach their funding goal and Phil Phish's career is over, so some good came out of it.

To bad it seems they've bribed the mods on 4chan to ban and blacklist any discussion on the matter even though moot said it was ok. Gamergate threads have been censored for days now.

If you can't beat them, cheat them seems to be the the mantra these people live by.

Wait, who did that? TFYC?

The Flood / Re: I don't look people in the eye when I talk to them
« on: September 17, 2014, 11:28:01 AM »
Eye contact is one of those weird cultural things. I was raised in a Native American family and we consider eye contact disrespectful, so I have to consciously remind myself not to look down when talking to white people.

I've heard it's the same with many Asian and Latino cultures.

Serious / Re: Fun fact on child porn [moved from The Flood]
« on: September 16, 2014, 05:56:30 PM »
As someone with minimal education on data gathering I can say those studies are heavily flawed in that their sampling is limited to only those who've been arrested. Hell the very first words in the link you provided are "Experts differ over any causal link between child pornography and child sexual abuse."

I'm not arguing in favor of it mind you, just enjoy pointing out how wrong you are considering how noone on this forum posts or openly supports CP and none of that has anything to do with the perfectly SFW pictures of animated children you've been targeting.

When your opinion is repeatedly debunked and you still refuse to stop bringing up even in completely unrelated threads, it's hard to see a difference.

Why can't there be more replies like this in this forum, instead of "You become dirt, lol religion iz wrong, I no consider other viewpnts cuz science".

That would make this place, much, much more bearable.

This question is targeted directly at atheists, so what did you expect?

Those were made several thousand years ago, they must have evolved.

Serious / Re: Which are you?
« on: September 15, 2014, 08:38:28 PM »
Yeah, actually...

I change my mind; materialism, as long as you concede that the consciousness exists. I wouldn't think purist materialism in that sense would include consciousness in the equation, hence my decision to take dualism first...

I don't think any serious line of thought doesn't believe consciousness exists. Dualism would be to say its made out of some unknown material separate from the brain and materialism would be to say it exists in the same manner that the OS or files on a computer exist.

The rest are other hypothetical ideas, Idealism for example could be something similair to living in the Matrix.

531
Serious / Re: Which are you?
« on: September 15, 2014, 08:21:18 PM »
Dualism is the only one that really doesn't make sense to me because it is condradicted by the fact that the mind can be altered by physical changes to the brain.

The rest are all plausible though materialism is least far-fetched.

When you unplug a computer, do you think the energy inside it gets destroyed?

The Flood / Re: How does personal statement write? (UCAS)
« on: September 15, 2014, 11:30:35 AM »
I'm glad we don't have to do this personal statement thing in 'Merica

I had to write a personal statement, then again it was for the University of Commiefornia after all.

OT: Try your best to bullshit how much you love your school or major. If you think it makes you sound arrogant or like an ass kisser then you are probably on the right track.

Eh we send the same personal statement to 5 different Unis so I can't really suck up to a specific one. Reading mine through just makes me cringe.

Have you decided what to study yet? I went into my schools biology program so I talked about wading in tidepools as a kid and some nonsense about how "one with nature" I am. Along with some asskissing about how their school is the best in the field.

Though this was in California. I don't know if it's different where you live, but it sounded similair based on what Psychology said.

Serious / Re: Is transgenderism a mental disorder?
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:25:06 PM »
Disorder is a technical term for conditions percieved as having a negative effect, defined by the field.
So no it is not a disorder because it isn't defined as one by psychologists. The proper question for what I think you are really trying to ask is "Should it be a disorder?"

Mars, and perhaps by extension, a few moons with the possibility of oceans beneath their ice, are the only chances we really have. But Venus is out of the question. It's atmosphere is both toxic, acidic, and dense like an ocean.

The probes that they sent that made the journey and survived either melted from the heat and extreme corrosion in the clouds, or were crushed before they even hit the surface. Because of how thick it's atmosphere is, that means it's denser than ours, and the closer you get to the surface, the more oceans worht of weight you have sitting on top of you.

Venus will likely never be set foot upon by us, any time soon.

Venus's upper atmosphere has temperature and pressure ranges very close to Earth. Since oxygen is a lifting gas in CO2 there have been proposals to have floating cities like Bespin. There wouldn't be problems with bone
degration from low gravity and its a shorter trip from Earth.

Why anyone would want to live in a balloon floating above boilng oceans of acid there is another matter, but its possible.

Serious / Re: How much value do you put on human life?
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:27:49 PM »
I value my life. Since I value my life, I'd like others to also value it, which is unlikely to happen unless I in return value the lives of others. I see it like bartering, just with all of society. This of course, is ignoring my emotional and illogical desire to help others that's been programmed into me by evolution.
