Kanye West has never been one to engage his brain before speaking and the rapper was at it again when he halted a performance and demanded everyone in the audience stand up and dance – even though two fans were in wheelchairs.

The star stopped the show in Sydney on Friday night and demanded that every member of the audience got up and danced.

Kanye told the crowd: “I can't do this show until everybody stand up. Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking and s**t.”

While most stood up, Kanye spotted two people still seated and called on them to get to their feet, refusing to carry on with the show.

It was only when one fan waved her prosthetic limb in the air that the rapper realised his mistake and quickly said "Okay, you fine."

He then focused his attention on the second fan, who was in a wheelchair, and refused to continue with his song "Good Life" until it was confirmed the man could not stand.

Serious / "Moral Considerations" test - really fucking short.
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:51:07 PM »
I'll put the results in spoilers. This is based on the work of Jonathan Haidt, who's extensively studied political implications of morality.

You must rate them from 0 to 4.5, in intervals of 0.5 in how important they are in moral considerations, and I will post the average results in spoilers. Then, you'll tell us which group you're closest to in moral considerations. Being a "moral conservative" doesn't necessarily infer you must be politically conservative.
Spoiler
So rate them as 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 or 4.5.
So, in other words, if somebody were to violate these foundations below, how important would they be in your condemnation of them?

Care/Harm Foundation: Protecting others from harm and being empathetic towards fellow humans. Usually follows with protecting them from abstract oppression like poverty or hunger.

Justice/Fairness Foundation: Treating people in proportion to their actions. Can be associated with things like advocacy for a living wage or, on the flip side, capital punishment. Such results are usually contingent on your score for the care foundation.

Loyalty/Ingroup Foundation: Devotion to an associated group, such as family, nation, community.

Authority/Respect: Taking things like tradition and certain authorities - like parents, the State, the law, a police officer - seriously and paying them due respect; in other words, how disturbed you are by people who act in an apparently flagrant or disrespectful manner to objects or agents of authority.

Sanctity/Purity: Avoidance of degrading things like actions - such as promiscuous behaviour - or foods - like GMOs. Also, making certain things sacred (such as the Constitution, for a civil example) or the Bible, or the Flag et cetera and whether or not somebody disgraces "sacred" objects.

Liberal Results
Care - 3.7
Fairness - 3.8
Loyalty - 2
Authority - 1.8
Sanctity - 1.3

Conservative Results
Care - 2.9
Fairness - 3.2
Loyalty - 2.8
Authority - 3.1
Sanctity - 2.4

Libertarian
Care - 2.6
Fairness - 3.2
Loyalty - 2.1
Authority - 1.7
Sanctity - 1

I came out as closer to Conservatives.

Serious / European Parliament buys 106 iPad minis for workers
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:09:39 PM »
Fuck me.

Quote
Hundreds of empty iPad Mini boxes were discarded at the European Parliament, prompting fears that bureaucrats are frittering thousands of pounds worth of taxpayers' money.

More than 106 boxes were pictured in a corridor at the Brussels parliament last week – with a total cost of £for all the tablets.

Speaking today he said: 'I walked past and I first thought it was piles of paper, but when I saw it was hundreds of iPad boxes I was appalled.

'It is an astonishing waste of taxpayers' money. I was absolutely flabbergasted that they thought it was necessary to spend more than £25,000 on tablets which are not needed for the job.

'I was headed off to a meeting and I just thought good heavens, I have to take a picture and show people this.
'Countries in the EU are in dire financial straits and this is being allowed to happen. It's a 'let them eat cake' attitude.

Serious / Germany officially bans ISIS
« on: September 13, 2014, 08:55:22 PM »
Go Germany.
Quote
Germany has announced an immediate ban on all activity which promotes Isis, as the group maintains its control over swathes of Syria and Iraq.

Security agencies estimate at least 400 people from Germany have joined the group now calling itself the Islamic State (IS) and similar organisations.

The decree closes a legal loop hole which made it difficult to prosecute supporters of the group.

Under Friday’s ruling, it is now illegal to distribute propaganda material promoting IS, to display the group’s symbols, or to take part in activities connected with the group.

In a statement on Friday, interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere warned that the group poses a “threat to public security in Germany” and therefore its recruitment efforts must to be stopped.

More than 100 jihadists are back in Germany including "some with combat experience who have learned to hate", he said.

Serious / Parents release picture of baby born at 24-week abortion limit

And call for a change in abortion law.
Quote
A grieving mum has released this heartbreaking photograph of her premature daughter who was delivered at the 24-week abortion limit.

Born just 24 weeks into her mother’s pregnancy tiny Adelaide was too small to survive.

This treasured image of the tot reaching up as she let out a cry is the only picture her parents have of her alive.

Service Advisor Emily Caines, 25 from Yeovil, Somerset and husband security guard Alastair Caines, 29,  released the photograph in a bid to open up the debate about abortion.

The current law allows babies to be terminated up to 24 weeks gestation, the same as Adelaide when she was born.

She said: "Our picture shows Adelaide was not a feotus she was a fully formed human being and to think that a baby like her could be legally terminated  on grounds of a lifestyle choice is to me is horrifying. Medical grounds is a different matter.

"Our hospital was amazing and did all they could but Adelaide suffered complications which made it impossible for her to survive but many babies born at 24 weeks do live.

"That makes a mockery of the 24 week legal limit."

Serious / Your favourite thinkers, and how you disagree with them
« on: September 13, 2014, 02:52:00 PM »
So, basically, who are some of your favourite thinkers, philosophers, politicians, economists et cetera, and then what are some views of theirs with which you disagree.

I disagree with David Hume's compatibilist account of free will, I'm a determinist.

I disagree with Milton Friedman on the idea of increasing the money supply constantly by 3-5pc.

I disagree with Richard Dawkins on a gene-centred view of evolution.

I disagree with Christopher Hitchens on materialism.

I disagree with George Osborne on the Help to Buy scheme.

Those are the ones which immediately come to mind.

The Flood / There are bitter weeds in England
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:29:40 AM »
I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once more able to defend our island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do.

That is the resolve of His Majesty's Government – every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation. The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be.

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

Into public infrastructure.

For instance, there's a proposal in Britbong at the moment to roll back the green belt around certain cities which aren't London. On top of this, apparently each city would need a subsidy of around £50m to cover infrastructure costs of growing development.

Why not just allow companies to make tax-deductible investments in such infrastructure?

Serious / Conservative or Liberal?
« on: September 12, 2014, 01:47:45 PM »
Now, obviously, such a dichotomy is always undesirable. However, I'm not referring to respective ideologies. I'm not asking if you're pro-gun control or pro-life or for a flat tax.
Spoiler
I make this distinction mainly for the Yanks, the Conservatives of Britain have, historically, been the welfarists.
Ideologically, we all have fundamentally liberal values I would imagine. That is, the legal liberty and equality of all individuals, freedom of the press, fair elections and the like. But from this basis, of course, many divergences have presented themselves.

No, I'm talking about attitude. It isn't uncommon for people to experience times of radicalisation in their lives, usually under the influence of either adolescence or oppression. Some of you may consider yourselves radicals, which is fine. However, in the dichotomy I'm asking about the attitude of giving due respect to historical institutions like (for us Britbongs) the Monarchy, and taking things like tradition into account vs the attitude of "out with the old and in with the new", being hostile to traditions or such institutions.

I'm sure you can all differentiate between whether or not you fit into a more conservative or a more liberal attitude, but if you need further explanation, F.A. Hayek made a decent typology that can be applied to the dichotomy.
Quote
the "British tradition" (conservative) and the "French tradition" (liberal). Hayek saw the [British tradition] as representative of a tradition that articulated beliefs in empiricism, the common law, and in traditions and institutions which had spontaneously evolved but were imperfectly understood. The French tradition [...] believed in rationalism and sometimes showed hostility to tradition and religion.

I'd put myself in the British tradition.

Serious / Ask a psychopath anything
« on: September 11, 2014, 06:31:01 PM »
Verbatim got his focused AMA to work, so I figured I'd go ahead and do mine. I do expect to take some flak for this, though.

Quote
Antisocial (or dissocial) personality disorder is characterized by a lack of empathy or remorse and a pervasive pattern of disregard for, or violation of, the rights of others. There may be an impoverished moral sense or conscience and a history of crime, legal problems, and impulsive and aggressive behavior.

Quote
Psychopathy is traditionally defined as a personality disorder characterized by enduring antisocial behavior, diminished empathy and remorse, and disinhibited or bold behavior.

And yes I put this in Serious because I'm actually interested in what a (marginally) serious discussion about this will look like.

Spoiler
Disclaimer: I haven't been officially diagnosed with ASPD (psychopathy itself isn't even a diagnosis), because I am underage. This "assumption", if you like, is based on the general consensus of the professionals I have seen, and the fact that my current counselor is pushing really hard for me to see a psychologist >.>

If you don't believe me regardless, that's absolutely fine and is to be expected.
