News / Retro Game Review- Super Mario 64
« on: October 23, 2014, 02:07:11 PM »

Hoo Boy, now we're into the 3D era of Mario... and not the nice 3D... the awkward looking stuff.  (don't worry about the side games I miss, they'll be dealt with later) So, does Mario 64 stand the test of time, or was all the praise just for the technical breakthroughs it made? Let's find out.

Story-

Spoiler
Mario is on his way to peach's castle, for some "cake" if you know what I mean, when bowser decides to cake-block mario and take over the castle! he then takes the power stars used to power the castle and hides them in magic paintings. you must collect as many as you can while warping to strange lands in paintings in order to save the princess and reclaim the cake you deserve!

Gameplay
Spoiler
So! Mario's first 3D adventure! he is of his standard fare, with the ability to jump and run like he did in any other platformer, but in this game he has access to a plethora of skills to pay the bills. First off would be the ground pound, where he flips in the air, and then uses his fat ass to murder whatever's under him. Next would be his ability to triple jump, and long jump, the long jump is done by crouching and jumping at the same time while moving, to extend the length of his jump. the triple jump is used to access high areas, and can be quicklly done by flicking the analog stick in the opposite direction while jumping.
Mario can also preform a wall jump. these moves are essential to gameplay, and are all accessible from the start, which really is quite nice and gives you plenty of time to master each move.

The caps on the other hand, like the wing cap and metal cap, are extremely situational, and not even remotely useful as the fire flower and other staples of the franchise, sadly they're the only power ups in the game, and they are only used once or twice in the whole game. all in all the power ups are lacking, and the gameplay is simple compared to the previous instalments.

Now for the fun bit, level design and progression
Spoiler
Mario 64 has a total of 120 power stars, spanning 15 levels, and 15 stars hidden in the castle and bowser levels. there may be a lot of power stars, but there's only 15 actual levels to critique, which, by a numbers standpoint, is a massive downgrade compared to it's predecessors. Mario 3 had a total of 90 levels, and Mario World had 96 exits to find across 72 levels. Each level is held to a certain theme, you have the "green hill" known as bomb omb battle field, the water level/pirate level known as jolly roger bay, the fire level, the sky level, the ghost level, they're all open world, and you can complete any star in any order so long as you know what you're doing, something certain OTHER mario titles should learn from (looking at you Sunshine.) All in all the open world aspect does solve the problems of the small amount of levels this game has, but the fact you need to see each level 6 TIMES in order to 100% the game is a little annoying, and stale.

Enemies
Spoiler
Alright, The enemy palette is quite diverse in 64, but said enemies are restricted to certain worlds, but the Mini bosses of each world make up for it quite easily, each mini boss only takes 2-3 hits, but each one has a little gimmick, like King bomb-omb needs to be thrown, while the Whomp king needs to be ground-pounded to death. The bowser fights are piss easy, and really a complete joke save for the final encounter, because you can just get to his tail before he even has a chance to get back up after being thrown 2 feet, you can just do that until he hits a spike ball and takes damage. all in all the enemy cast is diverse, and interesting, but it completely pails in comparison to 3, and World.

Graphics, and sound
Spoiler
this is the era where we were just learning how to 3D in the gaming industry, so there's a little leeway with the graphics, they efficiently get the message they want to get across, but the models are extremely polygonal, and simple.
Sound on the other hand is perfect, the sound chip in the n64 sings a golden tune in Mario 64, with music like Bomb Omb Battlefield, you can't NOT tap your feet to the rhythm as you play, The only real downside is that the extremely ambient tunes in certain levels are forgettable, like Jolly Roger Bay's theme.

Overall
Spoiler
An overall score of 6/10, the game is solid, and quite fun once you get things down, but the game is stale, you only have 15 different motifs in the game. and each one is limited to one level. the game gets stale quick, and should be played in moderation. IF you want to play 64. the music is good, but the graphics are that of the awkward PSX days. While this game WAS a technological breakthrough, and fun to just speed run once in a while, I'd just say emulate it rather than shell out the $ for it.

Hello! I am here to tell you of two games I recently picked up (and one was free with the other!) Azure Striker Gunvolt, and the add on game Mighty Gunvolt. Let's begin with Azure Striker Gunvolt!

Story
Spoiler
In Gunvolt you are our hero Gunvolt (Or GV) whom is a part of a special group of people who have suffered a mutation, where they gain psychic powers, and this scares normal people, But have no fear! A large power corperation known as the Sumeragi group have taken over and are now controlling the world and giving these misfits a chance in a shelter built just for these psychics. At least, that's what they advertise. Sumeragi group are actually putting these psychics in concentration camps, preforming cruel experiments, and keeping them there until they die. Sumeragi Group have keeped this a secret up until now, but a group known as QUILL has found out their plan, and as a revolutionary force for the rights of psychic people are fighting to destroy Sumeragi! Standard save the world from a tyrant spiel here.

The 7 heads of Sumeragi are actually psychic themselves, but they sealed their powers into sword like objects in order to maintain their high status, and they are your enemy in the game. This story is actually a little more complex, but that is spoiler territory... let's just say that some interesting rouge people show up and wreak havoc as well. overall a good story, but the fact that the true ending is locked behind little gems hidden in each level is a little irritating.

Gameplay
Spoiler
Azure Striker Gunvolt is a game harkening back to the days of megaman X, with 6 standard bosses, some spoilerific bosses, and a boss rush, and much like Mega Man, you can choose your order... although some stages are extremely easy with your base abilities, and others are extremely hard compared if you're just starting, like the Pharma Lab, or Biochem plant.

Our hero GV is a Psychic dealing with the element of lightning. using his gun he focuses it into light targeting shots that give his powers a focus, then you are able to fire off your L button to send off arced lightning at your foes, decimating them quickly. He also has a nice little skill gauge that allows him to use special moves to even the odds like an AOE that does a lot of damage, or a heal move. He gains these skills by "levelling up" but that really doesn't actually do much besides unlock these skills

There's also crafting! Yaaaaaaaaaay. seriously, what is it with games now and crafting? just give us an item shop or something, I need something to burn all these coins on, but the game gives me nothing.

Enemies
Spoiler
Okay, now for the fun part, the mooks are standard looking robots/army dudes, but the Psychics that you fight against are REALLY interesting. I'll describe the fights one at a time. Also, they're all named after car stuff.

Viper/Daytona

This guy is your fire boss, creating flame pillars on both sides that he uses to make himself invincible, he is also the fast fighter, zipping around quickly so you only have a second to hit him. The reason he wants to fight so bad? you "jockblocked him" from the roll of the game and he's pissed.

After the water level, next up is Merak, the lazy motherfucker sittin in his chair shooting lasers at you and creating portals with his portal gun. Then his lasers go through portals and fuck your day up, this guy just wants to play WoW, so he has to kick your ass with his lasers.

Next up is Elise, who has a split personality and the power over the undead, generic bipoalr trait is generic. She also uses threads like a spider to move through the arena and attack you with a doppelgänger who copies her pattern on the opposite side of the arena. relatively easy boss when you've died with them at a SLIVER OF HEALTH! AND THEY USE THEIR SPECIAL TO KILL YOU and learned the pattern.

FRACK THIS BOSS AND HIS STUPID BUG GIMMICK! Can't hit him half the time, and the other half he's in the middle of an attack. He's a fgt who just uses his retarded bug wall attack then blindsides you with his grabby arm of death. Avoid the bugs with your lightning field, then jump for your life.

This guy is your big brute mofo, he controls black holes for his special, and it's does a FUCK TON of damage. he also grabs you then slams you into walls, watch out for the giant hands, he's also a perfect first boss because of how easily you can lead his sorry ass with his charge, giving you a HUGE amount of time to kick his ass.

HIS DRILLS ARE THE DRILLS THAT PIERCE THE HEAVENS! also, they shoot lasers, so watch out for that. this guy is also a prideful motherfucker, acting all high and mighty before the fight, but he's incredibly easy to beat because his drills bounce off of your lightning field

All in all the cast of characters is quite diverse, but a bit generic.

Dem graphics and dat sound
Spoiler
The graphics are actually quite nice, and the sprites are highly detailed unlike some "retro" games that look like ass, and the music is all ambient noise sex... but the problem is that it's all so ambient that you forget about it, and would only recognize it if you knew that the song was coming.

Overall
Spoiler
7.5/10 It's a fun throwback with a great story, but the forgettable music and grindy RPG mechanics make it longer than what it would be without that shit. Pick it up if you have the $ for it. You can find Azure Striker Gunvolt on the eShop for your 3DS and it's well worth the $15 price tag.

Now for Mighty Gunvolt! (and yes, that's the title screen.)

Story
Spoiler
There is none, no story at all, just go into the stages and kill the things.

Gameplay
Spoiler
3 Characters, 3 different abilities, 2 are broken, one isn't. Gunvold has a Double Jump, Ekoro can hover and her gun turns enemies into orbitals that help you, and Beck is Mega Man with a dash, and a slide, and a lemon gun.

You only get 4 stages, that's it, you can literally complete the game in an hour, and each stage is less than 10 minutes long with the boss at the end included.

Enemies
Spoiler
all the bosses are 8 bit versions of their counterparts in Azure Gunvolt, and the enemies are the same... literally could just copy-paste the enemy section of the gunvolt review minus the interesting charracters bit, because there is no character in these bosses.[

Graphics and sound
Spoiler
The graphics are 8 bit, and really do portray their more pretty counter parts quite well, and the music is much improved upon compared to the ambience of gunvolt's tracks remixed.

Overall
Spoiler
4/10 this is not a game to buy if you're looking for a full gaming experience, it's lacking in so much and doesn't equal out to a full game, unlike the games that this is based on, it's just a little add on to Azure in all reality, It honestly isn't even worth 5 bucks so if you WANT to try it yourself, get gunvolt while you still can.

The Flood / Court is fun. (Follow up on my court case)
« on: October 05, 2014, 08:47:28 PM »
So for those who do not remember/weren't here during august, I made a little thread about the fact that I was in the hospital for being shanked by a douchebag. Read up here, if you want I had a court date set for the 19th, and proceeded to a 5 hour long court battle. The results? I won, the guy that D.B. (the douchebag) hired was pretty fucking good and fabricating stories and lies, He managed to drag this open/shut case out for what was probably an extra 2 hours. In the end though, Evidence and the eyewitnesses won the case out, and as of today I am $3k richer than I was before. D.B. finally coughed up the money that he owed and went back to his cell for the next 17+ months. Hopefully he learned his lesson.

So, Flood. Have any interesting stories dealing with the courts or cops?

News / Retro Game Review- Super Mario World
« on: October 01, 2014, 02:26:21 PM »

So I'm back! and today I have brought with me a review of a little game from my childhood called Super Mario World! Let's see if it holds up through the years! You all know the drill from the last Quadra-Review, so let's kick this off with the story of this game!

Spoiler
After Mario slayed the koopa king for the 3rd time, Mario thought that it would be best for him and everyone else imoprtant to the monarchy to go take a vacation in Dinosaur Land, with no defenses besides the local dinosaurs. Guess what happens? Bowser manages to stuff all the Dinosaurs, known as Yoshi (Yoshis? Yoshii?) into tiny eggs half their size, and kidnaps Peach again... man, Bowser needs a hobby, pottery or something,) anyway, Bowser's back, he's on the other side of the 8 worlds, and you've got to go save the princess.

Now, the Gameplay itself, and the Mechanics that make the game a game.
Spoiler
Super Mario world's gameplay and mechanics are based on Mario 3, with a branching hub world and the same "get to the flagpole" style platforming. Notable new mechanics are the super cape, which, when used properly can circumvent whole levels, and our brand new pal, and soon to be staple of the franchise, Yoshi. He's a giant green dinosaur who has a hunger as large as Zeus' sex drive, he can consume active shells, enemies, and even the un-killable ones like the fuzzies. Yoshi also has the ability to fire off special projectiles depending on what he eats, for example, he fires off a triple shot if he eats a red shell, he can gain wings if he eats a blue shell, and he can fire green shells back out if you need a quick projectile on the fly. All in all yoshi is a formidable foe for bowser's minions, but sadly he can't be brought into fortress levels, as there's an arbitrary sign at the front that says no yoshis allowed. Mario, the good sport that he is, decided to follow the rules and not absolutely destroy the foretress with a yoshi.

The hammer bros suit and tanooki leaf/suit have disappeared this time for some reason, I guess they needed a vacation too? Anyway, all in all we have some really big gameplay changes with this game, giving it a good change up to the traditional Mario formula.

Now it's time for the enemies, because what would a mario game be without goombas to stomp?

Spoiler
Allright, in this game we have a gigantic cast of new enemies, so I'll just list them off.
We've got Amazing Flyin' Hammer Bros. Ball 'n' Chains, Banzai Bills, Beach Koopas, Beak Pillars, Big Blue Boos, Big Bubbles, Big Steelys, and Bill Blasters.

We've got Blarggs Blurps and Bob-ombs. We've got Boos, Boo Buddies, and Boo Buddy Swarms. There's so many enemies, but we've got even more!

We've got Bound Fire, Bullet Bills, Buzzy Beetles, and Chainsaws. We've got Chargin' Chuck, Cheep-Cheeps, Climbing Koopas, Dino Rhinos, Dino-Torches, and Dry Bones.

We've got Galoombas, fuzzies, Pirhana plants, Magikoopas, and Lakitu. We've got Mecha koopas, Torpedo Teds, and finally the goomba.

All these enemies and so much more, but we also have bosses that I'm sure you're waiting for...
We've first got Reznor, who is quite a cinch, just hit the tiny platforms that he and his friends reside on.
Next up is The Big Boo, whom all you do is throw rocks at, but be aware, because he can only be attacked when visible.
After that we have the 8 koopalings, all the same as they were in mario bros. 3.
Finally the King Bowser, who throws mecha koopas at you, throw them back to end him, and avoid his giant metal balls.

All in all a gigantic improvement in enemy cast, but the bosses are lacklustre, with only a few in numbers, and some are a pain in the ass.

Now for the Graphics and Music categories, yes, I'm combining the two.
Spoiler
The graphics in this game are quite nice, with colourful sprites, and full use of the SNES' power. The background details in each level are quite nice as well, a change of pace compared to the blue and black skies of Mario 3. We've got actual clouds this time!

Next off is the music, which I could listen to for hours, In fact, I do when I'm driving down on a large road trip, I have the Mario World soundtrack on my phone. Namely the overworld, it's upbeat tune is just perfect for driving through the country side. The real downside to the Mario World soundrack is that there's only 30 minutes worth of music in it.

Overall score
Spoiler
a solid 9/10, this game is a perfect sequel to the already vast Mario Bros 3, It's cast of enemies along with the great gameplay give this game a wonderful 8/10  score, but the sound and graphics bring that score over the top to the next level, the mood that these tracks fit perfectly with the level you play, and the vibrant colours and the detail put into each sprite just add to that. if you can pick up a copy, I highly recommend doing so. The game can now be accessed by means of the virtual console on the Wii U, and that's really the only way, as SNES carts are pretty rare nowadays, and the Wii's WFC network is dead.

News / Retro Game Quadra-Review- Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 (US and Japan,) 3
« on: September 18, 2014, 05:53:37 PM »

Super Mario, one of Nintendo's most prominent mascots and a household name of the 90's, everyone knows Mario's platformers, and those kids back in '85-'86 (myself included) at christtmas eve opening their very first gaming consoles and seeing a package deal of Super Mario Bros and their brand new NES were ecstatic. But, how has Mario's original adventures held up over the past 29 years? Well I'm here to give you guys a look into an older guys perspective on their very first games, and how they've held up as to what my 4 year old mind remembers it.

Super Mario Bros. 1

Story
Spoiler
All right! let's start off with the original, for those who don't know, Mario bros was a game originally released on the NES soon after it's launch in the US/Canada, where in you are supposed to Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom kingdom from the evil King Koopa, now known as bowser. As Super Mario, you must travel through the 8 worlds whilst grabbing power ups from special question mark blocks like the Fire Flower and Super Mushroom to reach to bowser's castle, and defeat the evil king Koopa!

basic plot right? wrong, this game is actually surprisingly dark going by the instruction book, as the original manual states that while the princess was kidnapped, the king Koopa had turned all the residents of the mushroom kingdom into brick blocks! Yeah, so those nice blocks that you've been smashing your fist into and breaking into pieces were the residents of the land, you, during the adventure kill off hundreds of citizens of the kingdom while killing off the enemies in your way.

all in all the story is quite simple as compared to modern day plots, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Sometimes the simple plot is all you needed, and with this game? It's really IS all you need, the iconic "save the princess" theme was pretty much introduced to gaming with the game.

Gameplay
Spoiler
First off, controls.  The original NES title's controls are quite simple, move with the D-pad, jump with A, run with B. But the way Mario controls in game is flawless, the controls are crazy responsive, and when you mess up, it actually feels like YOU messed up, not the controls, or the game itself.

Next is the actual gameplay, the objective in Mario is to travel your way across each stage in a world, collecting coins and using all of Mario's skills to reach a flagpole, or alternatively a face off with king koopa at the boss stages. As you complete each level, there is a time bonus depending on how long it takes to reach the end, but you shouldn't have to worry about that as the time that they give you for each stage is extremely lenient.

Enemies
Spoiler
King Koopa's army is actually extremely diverse, ranging from the  Hammer bros (guess what! he throws hammers!) to the simple, but iconic Goomba who simply walks from side to side, but I assume you'd like to know what you're getting into if you decide to pick it up, so here's the cast of characters!

Goomba- Standard enemy, walks one way until it reaches either a wall or it's demise in a bottomless pit.
Koopa- Turtle like enemies. Two kinds, Green (Who move the same as a goomba) and Red (Who don't fall into pits) both enemies can be jumped on and go into their shells, which you can kick to kill on coming enemies
Paratroopa's and Paragoombas- They're Goombas and Koopas, but they have WINGS! which means they jump.
Hammer Bro- HE'S THROWIN HIS HAMMERS ERRYWHERE!
Piranha plant- Hides inside pipes and pops out, they can only be killed via fire flower, otherwise they're invincible
Lakitu- Flies in a clout and drops spinies      Spinies- spiked koopas, as invincible as the piranha
Blooper- Underwater goombas, able to freely move through the water like a squid
Bullet bill- fired from a cannon at your face, jump on the bullet to kill it, the cannon itself is invincible

Sound
Spoiler
The soundtrack is simple, but it brings out the best of the NES' soundcard, and the music itself is extremely memorable, and even people who have never played the game know what world 1-1's music, overall the Game's soundtrack is limited though, with only 9 tracks actually used with an alternative sountrack that you hear when the time is running low.

Graphics
Spoiler
The NES and it's games are very limited as compared to most modern games, but in the very least, every single enemy and the player are distinct from the backgrounds that they're in, also the developers are quite creative with using other sprites, like how the clouds are just the bush graphics turned white.

Overall-
Spoiler
7/10
The game is extremely simple, but the controls and the game itself is so tight, and the controls are so responsive that both the story and graphics are out shined by it. All in all I can fully reccommend a playthrough, and the game is available on both the Wii U and 3DS if you don't have an NES just laying around

Super Mario Bros. 2 USA

Story
Spoiler
In Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario is back for another adventure, but this time he's back with his brother Luigi, a Toad, and the Princess Toadstool to face the evil toad Wart whom is threatening the dream land of Subcon, and in the end this game never happens because it was all a dream from mario and therefore, if there was a canon to mario, Mario 2 isn't a part of it, despite it introducing iconic enemies such as the Bomb-omb and the Shy Guys. in all honesty, Mario 2's story after learning of the ending is Sonic 06 levels of bad, and I find it too detatched from all the other mario titles

Gameplay
Spoiler
Mario Bros 2 USA shakes the very foundation of the original game, making it so that Mario can't kill enemies by jumping on them, rather, he simply stands on them with the option to pick them up and throw them, they make this mechanic the core of gameplay, and honestly it's not that good as compared to the original game, this mechanic was introduced for only one reason, and that is that the original JP version was deemed too hard, so Nintendo of America took a game called Doki Doki Panic, where in this mechanic is key, then reskinned the game to mario.

Another change in gameplay is the introduction of the multiple characters, and their differences are as follows-
Mario- the vanilla experience, average jump and run speed
Luigi- Jumps higher, and is floaty in the air, he also moves faster
Princess Toadstool- She is the same as mario, except that her jump also sports a float if you press the button after jumping up and hold it, often seen as the easy mode
Toad- Faster run speed, and sports an extremely gimped jump, in most cases you need to super jump (crouch with D-pad for a bit then hit jump) to get anywhere

Enemies
Spoiler
Wart's special forces involve 5 bosses, followed by more brand new enemies such as the Miniboss and new character Birdo, Shy Guys, Bomb Ombs, the Ninji, and some one off enemies that are never seen again like Phanto, Ostro, and Albatrosses.
I'll only name off the bosses this time, as most enemies function the exact same way

Tryclyde Fires 3 fireballs, just build a 3 high wall in front and throw the rest of your objects to win

Fry Guy- Throw stuff at it and it splits into four smaller forms that moves quicker, you can take em all out in one go if you play your cards right though

Mouser- Throws bombs at you, just throw em back to kill Mouser

ClawGlip (Clawgrip, was misnamed in credits) he throws rocks at you, throw 5 back and you win

Hawk Mouth- He's also the door normally, and this pulls a pleasant surprise, and is surprisingly hard to kill because he moves quickly, but he'll go down eventually

The main asshole himself, Wart. avoid his attacks and eventually vegetables will pop out of the machine, throw those into his mouth while it's open to damage him.

All in all its a colourful cast of characters that are honestly really interesting, it's a shame that half of them have never seen the light of day since though.

Sound
Spoiler
Overall, this game (While the game is a reskin) is actually quite pleasant, and I do go back to some of the songs if I have some time to kill and I remember the game. the soundtrack has a total of 14 tracks, all unique from each other, a vast improvement on the original's pitiful 8 songs

Graphics
Spoiler
While this game also pails in comparison to most modern games in terms of graphics, this game has a large variety in it's worlds and environments that Mario 1 was lacking and utilizes a lot more of the NES' Potential for beautiful 8 bit graphics

Overall-
Spoiler
6.5/10
The sound and graphics improvements were great, but the alienating and strange gameplay mechanics, and stupid story overpower it, the game isn't a great title, but it also isn't bad either. I can recommend it to those who are curious of the mario roots, but otherwise it really isn't worth picking up

Super Mario 2 (Japan) (all Stars version is called The Lost Levels)

Story
Spoiler
King koopa's back! and he's fucking with the Mushroom kingdom again! yet another simple story, returning to the old formula! hooray? yes indeed, mario IS back to the original platforming for this iteration of the classic formula, all the old characters from Mario 1 return in this more challenging spin on the formula.

Gameplay
Spoiler
This game is harder, flat out, I've only ever fully beaten the game twice on my Mario All Stars cartridge. (Including the one i did for this review) it returns back to the 8 world formula, and as an added spin, there are 5 additional worlds (world 9, and worlds A through to D once you save the princess, EVERY SINGLE ONE KICKS LOGIC OUT FOR THE SAKE OF DIFFICULTY.
"World 9-1? how about we take World 1-1, submerge it in water, add hammer bros, and bloopers?"
"Genus!" seriously though, the gameplay itself is tight, and with the introduction to Springboards, gusts of wind that speed you up and make you jump for longer and deadly poison mushrooms makes this one hell of a game

Enemies
Spoiler
There is a "False" king Koopa, which can only be killed by fire in 2 levels, AI on the Hammer Bros is improved, some follow you, other than that, there is no change between this and the original game, which is disappointing, as they probably could've added something new to kill in the game.

Graphics
Spoiler
as I am playing the All Stars version of this game, I can't accurately describe the differences between the two, but the upgrade to the 16 bit console makes the game look great!

Sound
Spoiler
The audio is literally the exact same as Mario 1 if youtube is accurate. lazy developers are lazy with their sequel.

Overall-
Spoiler
6.9 out of 10
This game is just as great as the original, save the lazy music, and thee difficulty spike compared to the original. I would recommend this game to those whom want a challenge, and those who are competent at platformers, as the difficulty will make even the better players cry in frustration of that game over screen.

Super Mario Bros. 3

Story
Spoiler
Mario is back! now with even more levels, more powerups, a new Map overworld system, new bosses, new worlds, new design concepts, New EVERYTHING! Mario Bros. 3 is a brand new adventure with the same old story, this time though, Bowser brought his koopalings along for the ride, and is taking over the whole world! Along with some brand new power ups mario goes onwards to save the seven lands from Bowser's iron grip and the Koopaling's magical spells

Gameplay
Spoiler
Mario 3 remains a platformer with the same tight controls, but this time we're throwing in some brand new power ups like the leaf, which allows mario to glide and fly with a maximum P-gauge (raised by running for a while) He also attacks with a new tail he gains. Next up we have the P- wing which is the same as the normal Leaf power up, but allows mario to fly for an unlimited time. After that we have the Frog Suit which allows free form swimming controls where you can swim in any direction. Finally, the Hammer Bros. Suit, which is extremely rare, but allows mario to throw the same hammers the hammer bros use.

Another new mechanic that this game adds is the overworld, where in mario travels to each individual stage, this expands the world exponentially, by giving us the ability to find secrets like using a hammer on the spot before world 3's castle to unlock a special toad house (which gives you a power up to use at your leisure) and a red Hammer Bro secret fight. this new overworld concept also allows the levels to both have a sense of connection, and makes a more expansive looking world in the game.

Enemies
Spoiler
Alright, in this game, we have angry suns in the desert levels, boss bass who is king of the water levels,  homing bullet bills, goombas in giant shoes, Dry (dead) koopas and so many more enemies, this coupled with Boom-Boom in the fortresses, and the Koopalings commanding the skies in the air ships makes bowser's army so diverse and unique. it's a GIANT improvement on the original 2 games.

Sound
Spoiler
The sountrack in this game is amazing compared to the previous games, and can even duke it out with some modern soundtracks in terms of quality, the fortresses music makes immerses you into a foreboding feeling, and they made a new song for almost every world, and most stages!

Graphics
Spoiler
The new look of Mario 3 is certainly interesting, and almost comic like appearance to it, and the stage motif makes the game feel more alive. overall the game's graphics are a vast improvement on the days of Mario 1&2

Overall-
Spoiler
An 8.5/ 10
This game does exactly what a sequel is supposed to do and more, Mario 3 is a game that takes the old mario formula and refines it to near perfection. I can definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking for a platformer, and even those who haven't played a platformer there's so much to do in the game that it could be a solid 4-8 hours on your first run through if you try to 100% it

No matter what you think, and no matter the subject, morality, and anything you deem as "wrong", is not objectively wrong.

Okay! story time!
*sits down*

So me and my wife had decided to take a night out, and have some fun at the local drinking establishment, it was a friday night and we both wanted to go drinking. all is going well, I'm enjoying myself, she is as well. so I get up from our table, and go to get another round for us, a Screwdriver for her, and some rum & coke on rocks for me. I start talking to a friend I happened to see, and glance at our table while talking to see some douche canoe trying to hit on my wife.

I'd normally think nothing of it, as my wife can handle her own, and has before with random douchebags trying to hit on her. the guy was average build, nothing to scoff at, but she could handle it, he also wore some fruity necklace and I saw the gleam of some ear rings later on, he was the very definition of a rich douchebag, anyways, she clearly isn't having it when I notice the guy's cronies walking up on the table, one of them was a slim guy, a featherweight who could be quick on his feet, the other two almost looked like bouncers with the way they were built, one in a black wife beater, and the other in a blue t-shirt. I then realize what they were doing and tell my friend to hold onto my drinks for me, and go to intervene. my wife can handle her own, but not against these guys.

I walk up on our table and kindly tell them to back off, sit back down, and enjoy their nights. the douche then says "No, you can fuck off cuz I'll fucking wreck you and then take you for everything you own,"

Now, I WAS buzzed at the time, and had a bit of liquid courage in me, so I reply,
"Ok, well this IS my table, so please leave my wife alone before I have to throw you and your cronies out of here myself."

He then says, "OH, we've got a tough guy here! well, why don't we take this outside so I can whoop your ass and take your girl the easy way!"

I reply," Fuck that, just fuck off dude, I don't want to kick your ass in front of your friends, it'll be humiliating for you tough guy."

He gets up in a huff and smacks the back of my head trying to start something, no feedback, so he hits me again...
he does it again...
and again...

Finally I snap, "Alright, if you're so fucking hellbent on it, we'll fucking go into the side lot." they walk out with grins on their faces, and we pursue.

so we walk up on the side lot, and all four of them are getting ready to fight. I say "Ok, 4 of them at once, might wanna back off a bit dear, in case things go sour, so you can get out quickly and call the cops."

What I'm about to write is an approximation of events that followed, from what I saw in the fray, and what my wife saw.

in greentext form. (sorry)

>Walk up
>We gonna do this? -douchebag
> yes -me
>His one bouncer guy in the blue shirt runs at me with a drunken swing over arm
>catch his arm, knee to balls
>he keels over, bouncer 2 in wife beater comes in, I parry, and punch him clean in the jaw
>he's still fucking coming
>punched in the stomach, flinch
>punch the guy clearly in the nose, he's bleeding
>Blue shirt tries to get back up, I kick him in the stomach as he's trying to get up, no prisoners when you start shit w/ me
>Hear the rattle of a chain
>thin guy's got a god damn bike chain in his pocket... dafuq, these guys aren't fighting for fun anymore, it's for keeps now.
>Clocked over the head with the god damn chain. wife noticed the black shirt guy's wallet fell out of his pocket.
>now facing chain guy
>he goes for another hit, but I catch the chain.
>Pull him into a punch to the throat, wife sees douchebag walking up on me with a knife
>Dumbass decides "going for a vital area? fuck that, here, I'll stab your arm and try to cut the arm open."
>I realize games are fucking over, this guy is here to kill
>back off, use my good arm to pull my pistol (I only ever have one shot in there, in case shit DOES go down and he charges
>He, and his cronies all fucking run back to the Mercedes he was driving, it was an SLS (See? he WAS a rich douche!)
>Wife comes up to me, calling the cops and shit
>3 minutes of terror, and my wife bitching at me about how she "could've handled it", and how I was an idiot for stepping in

(no more greentexting)
Cops finally show up, explain everything (cop's a little pissed about me pulling the pistol, but saw it was the right thing to do in the situation and commends me for not firing.) and he asks who they were, and my wife remembers the guy losing his wallet, and the guy has all his info in there. I was lucky as shit as the cops have a face, AND the car they should be looking for. So now the ambulance has showed up, I'm getting looked at, when my wife asks the cops about what we can do once the guy is caught. cop replies " assault charges, he CAN get a jail sentence, but you'll most likely get compensation in the form of sweet "stab cash" (as he put it.)

Now they've caught him, and I've got a court date for the 18th of September for this... and my arm's all patched up... I can still drive and do my job, but the cut was pretty nasty, he had some stupid spike things on his knife, so they tore up the end of the 5 inch long gash in my arm, it ended up with the blade going in a half-inch to my arm, and the bruises from the chain didn't exactly help my condition

TL DR- I got shanked in a fight with a douche bad trying to hit on my wife. pulled my pistol as a last resort and now I'm suing the shit out of the douche for shanking me on the 18th.

Point of topic- Post yer own stories about injury/fights, and AMA bout the thing that happened!
