I only use Facebook to talk to friends and family, and catch up on some news.

Once in the morning and then again if I have to go anywhere later.

Mine's an anaconda.

I'd role-play as an anthropomorphic lizard or a sangheili.

Most simply put knowledge is power, you would be surprised how detailed of a profile on a person can be created by knowing their online information.
YouTube

YouTube

This is quite a long watch, but it points out many of the concerns you should have when it comes to data-mining.

I'm invoking Godwin's law here, but the fact of it is the "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" argument is a terrible one and is the kind of propaganda that allowed the Nazi's to do what they did.

The fact of it is, corrupt entities have always existed and the more knowledgeable they are, the more powerful they are. I mean, take a look at the shit the US does with gerrymandering. They use the knowledge they have on people's political beliefs to redraw electoral districts to give a political party an unfair advantage.
I'm about an hour into the first video and can say that yes this shit is scary, but he didn't really tell me anything that I don't already know. Most of the examples he gave pertaining to social media were just people being dumbasses.

I understand that knowledge is power, and I think that there should be laws in place to keep companies from selling and/or sharing our information. However, this isn't going to make me paranoid enough to stop using their services or use a VPN on all my devices.

When I was a kid I had this boss fight down pat. I didn't need to shoot anyone once I got in the building. I would run up the left side dodging enemies and kill him.

I thought that the YouTube spoilers were to keep everything looking clean, not to prevent things loading. Although this is a good idea.

Now Ryle, just because a knife has the word butter in it doesn't mean you should use it to spread your butter.

Aye. This is probably a good idea to implement for new releases across the board. What would you say a fair period of time would be? 4-6 months?
I don't think it should really matter. No matter how old the media is there will still be people who haven't consumed it and care about spoilers.

but what does that mean tho

Seeding is where you leave your BitTorrent client open after you've finished your download to help distribute it (you distribute the file while downloading, but it's even more helpful if you continue to distribute the full file even after you have finished downloading).

Personally, I don't really care what information a corporation has of mine. I understand why people want their privacy, I just feel that these companies are using the information to change their products to suit their consumers better.

Also I don't think anyone has given a good example on why this is a bad thing other than "it's an invasion of my privacy" or "because they will know what I've been stealing from them".

If you torrent things you're a bad person.
torrenting =/= pirating

I should have added that I mean illegal torrenting, like stealing movie, games. ect.

Actually there are applications that are legal to torrent. Ask Linux users.

I buy the product if it's good.
That doesn't mean you are entitled to using the product if it isn't good (which to an extent includes testing it).

However, I find movies and albums that are usually unobtainable by other means.
I can see as an exception as long provided that you can't find another source to obtain it.

I don't go out of my way to make people happy, but I do try to have a positive outlook on life partly to inspire others to do the same.
