For the most part not really, you just made it sound like anyone watching DTB would have no clue what they're watching throughout the majority of the show. Which is a bit of a misleading statement.

It was basically just a bunch of incoherent episodes hinting at tiny little things that never get fleshed out with a climax that had an underwhelming twist.

I was really excited when I started watching it because it thought it was going to have a narrating style similar to DtB.
Isn't the main character in high school? How in the world did it give off that impression?
What I mean is, DtB didn't spoonfeed you everything right from the beginning. Only about 75% of the way through do you have even the slightest idea of what's going on.
Only in regards to certain bits of information, for the most part it told you what you needed to know as the story progressed. The only bits left unclear were about a certain character along with a few other details about the phenomena occurring in the anime.
