I can appreciate that Bethsoft decided to allow Obsidian to do massive amounts of damage control for the series, but that doesn't change the fact that BGS continues to ruin everything it touches.
Then simply acknowledge it can't be a disservice if it revived the franchise. What you're saying conflicts this (though I assume now the discussion is a wider debate about Bethesda than actually Fallout 3 itself).
But it still shat on the franchise. Bethsoft could have just as easily decided to let BGS continue to make sequels and that would have been terrible. By some odd reason Obsidian was given a chance to make a sequel and that was good. But it doesn't change the fact that F3 didn't help the actual game.

Wait, you're seriously proclaiming Fallout 3 as the worst Fallout game because of canon? Are you shitting me? Fallout's "lore" has always sucked. The saving graces of the games are atmosphere, karma, choices, and gameplay. And F3 definitely delivered on three of those four fronts.
Atmosphere didn't fit with the established lore. Karma was binary, choices were, again, binary. Gameplay was the only saving grace for the game.
