Yeah, beat the story. The game opens some modes after and your light level also needs to be around 280 to have access to most stuff.

Third reason could just be developer being lazy fuck which doesn't want to implement any kind of monitoring for how much people are online. Also if your game on Steam, Steam tracks it anyway (although it tracks only Steam users).
I feel like thats the way to go. The online platform should have this info available on the store page of the game.

I completed two strikes, I go to speak to Zavala and he only gave me some gun and Nightfall is still locked.
If only this game also told you what the pre-reqs are rather than just saying "Prereqs not met"
I believe you have to reach Level 20 and complete the Red War campaign.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention - I am lvl24 and I have completed the CP. The lvl20 achievement is still locked. I think I'm screwed here. Thanks Bungie...
Achievements generally take a while to unlock for some reason, power cycling your console sonetimes helps. Unlocking Nightfalls may be tied to light level actually as they are an endgame activity.
Fedora man, you wree correct. There is a Light level prerequisite.

Somewhat relevant to the consumerism topic. We got our first Krispy Kreme place in Ireland. It opened in the town where I live. It was very popular. Lines went on like they were giving out szechuan sauce. They also had a 24 hour drive-thru and this was a mistake. People would turn up and then blast their horns in the middle of the night. So they had to close down the place after 11 till 8. This is what it looked like.
