casting will smith as the genie was bad enough, but the special effect they used is genuinely one of the most laughably horrific things i've ever seen in my entire life, and i'm trying my hardest not to exaggerate--it's fucking baaaaaad, bad bad bad, especially given that there are movies made in the 60s that have more convincing special effects

second, there's no reason to remake a movie that's already good

Ah I can see those points, particularly with Jafar. But there is a reason to remake a movie that's already good - you get to share the story with more people and you have an updated audience. What didn't you like about Beauty and the Beast? I thought it was well done. Honestly I might just be dumb / low-IQ because I don't get the criticisms that so many people have.

If you just watch a movie and find it entertaining - nothing wrong with that. But start thinking about what you see critically - and it might start falling apart, the illusion wears off and all you see are tropes, clichés and banal bad writing.

Well, you're talking about someone who diddled a kid and was convicted in a make-believe world where pedophiles are 100% aware that if they get caught diddling kids they will die, so it sounds fair to me.

Seems just as unproductive as killing serial-killers or any other criminal tbh.

In the case of pedophiles and SKs though - they are disturbed individuals with obvious mental problems who would probably bring more good by being studied; maybe even cured or rehabilitated with some therapy.
That is of course me assuming that they don't have these urges by choice but by something more 'natural' and deep-rooted in their brain.
