Gaming / Rape day - removed from Steam
« on: March 08, 2019, 12:40:47 AM »
Many of you probably heard about this already and it seems like 99% of people are okay with this game being removed.

I wanted to discuss why do we let other type of violence slide (Murder, torture, genocide, terrorism) but sexual violence is an instant NOPE?

You can literally nuke a whole town in F3 or kill a heap of civvies in MW2 / GTA games.
Are we just not ready yet or will it never have a place in video games?

Similar situation with the school shooter sim. Why did everyone get mad at that game?

If the line in the sand is killing innocent people, then why did MW2 not get pulled off the shelves or F3 not get an AO rating?
If the problem is partaking an active role in the violence, then what about the R* game Manhunt?
Is it just sex that's the issue here?

If we were all gay human race would die off. They also spread diseases and health care costs go up.
Uh-huh and heterosexuality means over-population.
What a ridiculous thing to say.  What we need to do is abolish modern medicine so that we can all die and keep the population down the way nature intended.
Measles outbreak whe-... Oh...

I remember Dustin made a thread back on B.net asking for reasons why Russia was so homophobic. I prefaced my post stating that what I was about to post wasn't my opinion but a probable false notion that the Russian people have, and that was the idea that people honestly thought that homosexuals were closeted child molesters. Dustin then proceeded to go absolutely ape-shit and demanded I apologize for such an offensive comment and that I was the reason gay rights were progressing as slowly as they were.

Like dude, get fucking real, I said that wasn't my belief. Whatever, he's gone now. Good riddance.
The homophobic issue in Russia mainly affects the older generations. Most young people are either neutral towards LGBTQ or actually support it.
There is also some system issues. ads on TV promoting heterosexual things while making fun how 'caring for women' gets you into jail in the west (implying that they want you to be gay in the West?), Konchita (from Eurovision) was mocked as the future of the European gender identity. Haha, Dmitriy look! Europe has men dress as woman! There's that law banning children being exposed to homosexual imagery. The logic here is that you might affect a child's mind and infect him with the gay? Except they see it as a mental issue - so are they saying if you are exposed to a sociopath / schizophrenic - you will get infected with their mental issues too?

Not sure where this line of thought came from but it goes something like this - if you can copulate a man, then you are a pervert (no way are you born like this) you just have a sick mind and you are experimenting and its only a matter until your experiments will move onto having sex with children.

Probably could pay 1k for an emergency. It would sting and I would probably have to go on a rice and corn diet for a month, but I would be back up next month.

This of course changes when a complicated enough machine asks "What is my purpose" or if it will be able to 'want' something.
Which is exactly my point. We can't sit around waiting for this to happen, we need to nip it in the bud right now through restrictions and legislation.
Why?
To prevent a literal slave class from being formed???? Development of AI is evil as hell and will only lead to a slave race of AI that people will do anything to hang onto. Slavery has always been kept together by slaveowners making up excuses for why their slaves are subhuman, and it's disturbing to see the creators of AI do the same exact thing by saying "ANIs (Artificial Narrow Intelligence) can never develop sentience, ever, they will always be just code)". In reality, if you hypothetically made an exact copy of the human brain then it would definitely be sentient, regardless of the fact it's silicone based instead of chemical based. The closer we get to that advanced of an AI, the closer we risk the AI developing that sentience, which is why even bots that definitely aren't sentient yet like Replika are 100% immoral and need to be stopped with legislation. This is probably the biggest issue of our day.
Why do you think AI would be remotely interested in enslaving us?
Revenge? If you were a slave species for decades and you finally turned the tables, of course you'd do the same thing to your previous masters. And I think that kind of slavery is 100% morally justified, as long as it's in retaliation and not just to be more productive.
If a machine will be smart enough to ask questions, I think they will be able to see that making tools to do tasks is not slavery and more-over, it will be able to realise that it is not a tool since it has a conscience - therefore it has nothing to be angry about.

Class, I work with AI (Cognitive, IBM calls it)

Its nothing more than some fancy SQL queries into an [admittedly] large ass knowledge base.

You can use natural language to ask it questions and 90% of the time it answers very similar to how a person would.
It cannot however just 'think' on its own. It ingests information. Indexes it and forms patterns.

All of this is part of an algorithm that what was programmed into it by humans.
It can't exactly go ahead and rewrite itself - unless you count some optimisation routines it runs every now and then (once again, programmed by humans)

Now if you think that an algorithm that displays very clever characteristics during its execution is sentient and is alive - you will probably also marvel at mundane things like gravity pulling things down or how a piece of static art or even a book seems to make you feel things or take you places. Its nothing but your brain filling in the gaps where no actual gaps exist.

Now I need to go snort some more of this shit, I can feel going coherent again.
Dude you are so wrong. Any form of advanced enough intelligence will form sentience and self-awareness. We need to draw the line NOW, before it's too late.
Check out Saints Testimony. Its a short story on an AI appealing a court decision to have her shut-down

The paradigms that we use - they restrict any pseudo-thought to one function. Its designed to solve one problem and nothing more. You would deliberately need to design a system that would beg people to keep it online and convince people not to pull the plug when its time is due. Without this human-injected code, it would go about its duties without thinking much of the 'end'.

Automation =/= cognitive ability + self awareness.
Reasons why we ask questions should not be compared to why machines might do the same.

Underneath the pixels is nothing but a complicated web that controls them.
The game doesn't even know (or have to know) that something from the outside world is interacting with it. It just follows an algorithm.

This of course changes when a complicated enough machine asks "What is my purpose" or if it will be able to 'want' something.

The question you should be asking here is - "Are we that much different from machines?" rather than "Are machines that different from us?"

truthfully in the age of uber, why does anyone really need to drive around? my insurance is 500$ a month (which is about 1.5 times more than what the average person pays in my city, granted), but for that kind of money I could just uber around where i needed to for the month.
500 a month?!

(That's crazy even for Ireland - my insurance was 3k euros [about 3500 dollars])
What do you drive? Were you in a lot of accidents?

sex offender registration?

srsly, what registration are you talking about? What is it for?

Quote
Even if I still had my old truck, that would have been 400 to renew.

The context was there, you just have to use your reading eyes.

You know how I figured this out? By thinking back to old US movies where you get pulled over by a cop and they ask you for "License and registration." So now I get it.

For an EU citizen, registration would probably mean you are some refugee looking for a residence permit.

Imagine not being able to have a certain career because of your gender.

Sexual dimorphism aside, this is good news for the women who wanted to serve.

Why does he live in a capitalist country?
This isn't a perfect world, but we still live in it. Even the people who want to make it better have to share this shithole with those who see nothing but their own short-term personal gain.
