I think the bigger problem in that situation is the mob mentality. Hitting a woman even if she attacks you first in a lot of places will not go well. As you seen with him wrestling the old guy who hit him first I feel if a bunch of people seen him smack the woman he would of got jumped and beat pretty bad.
If there were only about 5 people coming at him, and he'd be calm, he'd be able to take them. One mistake, and you're down though. The trick here isn't to fight them, but deflect them, because as you can see the setting is inclined. Edit: I mean, they're fucking running at him. All he has to do is dodge one person, and he'd fucking get hurt. Might even die, but then it's that person's fault.
