I remember getting spankings for misbehaving in school and getting smacked (by me mom after school) for trying to hit my elementary teacher. I was scared to do those things knowing when I get home I wont have any fun. So, yeah, they're effective.

Psychopaths only care about their goal, meaning that once it's achieved they often stop everything. No more effort put into it, but sometimes the goal is to win something for the sake of winning, meaning that the thing they want to win is not the thing they want.
