343i Halo story is basically fan fiction tier. Don't give it too much thought and just go with the flow.
The Arbiter fighting along side the Master Chief isn't any less "fan fiction tier" and the Flood being an ally in a level seems like it's straight up fan fiction.

hard to believe they're so disconnected from their fanbase, considering how they used to be...
They been like that since Halo 3. The campaign for that game is a fuck you to the people who play Halo for it and Reach is a fuck you to the fans of Halo. After Halo 2 they went to shit and it just got worse. For old Bungie.net as far as I know there was never a forum for their previous games that weren't Halo. So to me it seems like they forgot about the fans of their older games and only care about the ones of their newer games.

When RockStar did their DLCs for GTA 5 everyone so far has been free. Any other developer out there would have been charging $2 or $5 for them depending on what they are. GTA 4 and GTA Online are bad but at least they know what they're doing to keep fans. They released GTA 5 one system/gen at a time to make sure it was right for it and the DLCs for it have been free. If only more developers/publishers out there handled their games like them.
